Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Week 14 check in for me, 2lb off which takes me to 2 and a half stone / 35lbs overall loss.

SW 13.12
CW 11.05

BmI is now 29.1, from 34.2. Still a way to go though, but heading in the right direction.

Great news!

I am still just into a BMI 30 but hoping that I will soon follow you, MJ twinny 😀

Had a great a NSV this week - my favourite ever ring finally fits me again!

Choux · 31/05/2024 17:52

RagzRebooted · 31/05/2024 17:18

@Choux I don't think Eli Lilly are overly concerned by lost revenue due to people extending their pens, they're making a fortune. I think it's more likely that they only bothered to do the stability testing for 30 days, because if being used correctly the pens would be open for 21 days and then thrown away. Why spend money on research that isn't needed?
I plan on using mine for as long as I want. The main risks are it loses effectiveness (unlikely and not harmful) or contamination of the medication from extra needle punctures (unlikely as I clean it each time, use a sterile needle and will keep it in the fridge but potentially harmful, however I'm taking that as an informed risk).

Yes maybe it's just due to lack of testing (which would cost money). Anyway I am with you on using a pen for as long as it takes to get through it. I will keep moving up to 12.5 and 15 as they are better value per mg than the lower doses and will then use whatever dose I think I need.

I prob need another 3-4 months on it to get to my new goal weight of c145-150 lbs. So about another £600 investment.

CiderJabs · 31/05/2024 17:53

Thanks @Choux and @RagzRebooted - I have a 7.5mg in the fridge and I still have 1 left in my 5mg pen. I was planning to move up but now I think I need to go down and wean myself off it while I lose the last 9-10lbs. So I would potentially do 2 weeks at 5, 4 weeks at 3.75 and then 4 weeks at 2.5. Is that too long / too risky?

MsClittirati · 31/05/2024 17:54

Does anyone have link to where I can buy extra needles ?

I don’t want to miss the bonus dose and have spares in case I need them .

thank you .

montysma1 · 31/05/2024 17:56

@ObsidianTree I don't think it does😳. I had the PHARMSTOCK20 one in my basket as I have used it before but it didn't work.

I am gearing up to shift supplier unless the have a change of heart before 12.5mg comes into stock .

Nooneknowsbutme · 31/05/2024 17:56

@MsClittirati I use these ones medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles/

I asked my brother who is in the US and has lost 40lbs on 10mg how he is planning to end taking it and he said just stop taking it. No titrating down. Personally I think it's better to titrate down and slowly let your own appetite come back as your plan does.

My current thoughts (but I still have over 20lbs of my 40lbs to lose so it's just ideas) is that I would rather buy high doses (which are cheaper per mg) and count clicks to get to the dose I want. Once you stop ordering, if you start to gain weight you won't be able to get another pen until you hit 30 BMI again so I would rather buy too much and have it in my fridge as a back up if I need a bit of extra help to get back on track in the next 12 months.

Sassenach85 · 31/05/2024 18:13

I’m due my 3rd 2.5 jab tonight and my 5 pen is being delivered in 1hr.

i have to say I’ve found Asda really professional and reliable so far.

I do have a question for those further along than me though!

after I have eaten a small amount I feel so full. I’m finding feelings of disappointment in myself and shame as if I have binged but need to remind myself I haven’t. I can’t wait for the full up feeling to pass so that this uncomfortable shameful feeling goes away. Does anyone else get this?

PugLover2024 · 31/05/2024 18:30

ObsidianTree · 31/05/2024 17:48

I want to order a pen tomorrow. I don't need it, but want to see if the discount code in my basket still works for med Express!

If I order tomorrow, will it come Monday ish? Not back from hol until Sunday night, so don't want to risk ordering if it turns up Sunday!

Thanks all!

I still have a pen in my basket on med express with the topupten code applied and it won’t let me check out, it says that the discount code has expired and wont let me checkout despite entering my card details

Glad you're still on track. Ive not been lighter thanthis current weight for at least 5 years, so anything else will now feel like proper progress.

Your NSV sounds great, so good to be able to rediscover treasured things.

FlappyFish · 31/05/2024 19:17

@CiderJabs I absolutely will be using the pens over the 30 days. As @Choux and @RagzRebooted said it will be in the fridge and cold and it’s not going to poison me. Or revenue protection from guidelines maybe for the throw away after 30 days. But I absolutely will be doing a slow and steady withdrawal from what I have.

Quick ADHD related observation…

It’s only 24 hrs since my first dose and I’m noticing major appetite suppression and no side effects so far- fingers crossed!

The main thing for me though is that I feel so calm, a bit sort of zen/meh.

I have ADHD (unmedicated) and I’m normally pretty ‘on it’, I have a million little coping mechanisms to stop myself fucking up which involves constant double checking and incessant internal monologue reminding me what to do next. Tbh it’s pretty exhausting and neurotic/hyper vigilant like I’m always on the brink of overwhelm.

That feeling has pretty much gone today. I’ve been a mix of focused/productive and vague. I’ve had a few little rests just because I need a little break- not because I am paralysed. I didn’t feel guilty about it and I was able to pick up where I left off. I also left an empty scrambled egg pan on the heat and didn’t notice for ages- this is the sort of shit I have conditioned myself to avoid by being neurotic.

i don’t really recognise myself! I think I like it!!!

FlappyFish · 31/05/2024 19:26

@Sassenach85 I’m quite a lot further on and that feeling of fullness hasn’t passed for me. I do not feel uncomfortably full after eating, but it takes a lot less to get me there. I have to eat very slowly and mindfully. I reach can’t manage another bite quite quickly.

Hopefully you will soon recognise your levels of fullness, but mine does vary. Take care of yourself. I know that feeling of shame and uncomfortableness so well.

Thanks for your reply, I guess the very full feeling passes within half an hour. And I’m back to just “happily full” if that makes sense.

I'm really not eating much but maybe I am eating too quickly, that’s a good point!

Yes, same here. I am starting to look like myself again and I really had given up all hope!

PugLover2024 · 31/05/2024 19:57

Can you switch to a different supplier if your BMI is below 30?

BlackFriYay · 31/05/2024 20:04

Fucking MedExpress. I had a feeling they were going to stop the codes. I'm pretty gutted to be honest. The codes made a fair difference to the affordability for me.

I can still afford it but it'll be paying more than I'm happy with. £130-£150 with the discounts feels less eye watering than £170-£210.

What are we all saying then? Shall we sod off to The Family Chemist en masse 😂

wanders off to compare prices everywhere

PugLover2024 · 31/05/2024 19:57

Can you switch to a different supplier if your BMI is below 30?

As far as I'm aware you can yes, if you can provide proof of current MJ use. Many switched to MedExpress when under BMI 30.

Although one poster said she was refused (can't remember which provider) due to a BMI under 30 but I don't think she got as far as explaining why that was.

It's worth a try anyway.

BlackFriYay · 31/05/2024 20:18

I've just emailed the family chemist asking if current users of MJ can switch over to them if we are under BMI 30. I'll get back to you with their reply. Fingers crossed.

FastGoose · 31/05/2024 20:18

@BlackFriYay sounds good to me 😂

A question that I've wondered is. Does the family chemist have codes / honour codes after your initial first purchase? Or are they just generally cheap enough to not need codes?

Pinkbendyman · 31/05/2024 20:22

Here’s a 10% discount code (for both of us) for onlinedoctor.asda.com if anyone would like to use it.

MedExpress charge £210 or £215 for the highest dose whereas TFC, if I recall correctly, charge £189, so it's a worthwhile saving even without codes. Same applies to the lower doses.

I didn't realise they actually do codes but if they do then even better I say 😊

Wonkypictureframe · 31/05/2024 20:25

I’ve gone to Pharmacy2U for 10mg. I’m hoping by the time I need my next jabs prices are coming down.

My plan is one month on 10mg as I’ve read it’s the dose at which insulin resistance starts to decline, and I think that’s my big issue. I’m fine on 7.5mg for appetite suppression, so if 10mg feels no different I’ll come down again after that for the cheaper pen. If I lose at 1lb a week, I’ll be at BMI 25 by the autumn so I’ll start trying to collect some 5mg to titrate down after that.
