Starting this thread for all the newbies who are just starting out.

I'm going to be taking mounjaro.
Expecting my first pen hopefully tomorrow.

Anyone else just starting out?

So my previous low appetite wasn’t placebo (I don’t think) because it has been back to almost normal today. I’m quite pleased though because 2.5 isn’t therapeutic but did have a (small, short term) effect so I’m hopeful for when I step up. I’ve still made healthy choices in terms of what to eat but I’ve eaten more than I did the past few days because I’ve been hungrier. Not ridiculous though - I’m still on track.

One of my major goals is to learn what is a healthy diet. Not intellectually (I can reel of facts quite happily) but more about how healthy food can fit into my lifestyle. So that means what a sensible portion size is (I weighed a normal portion of pasta on Monday and it was about a third of what I normally serve for myself). Personally, I think feeling bad about eating poor quality food is part of my problem when I know full well that people who are a healthy weight long term generally have a healthy attitude to food. That means sometimes having a nice meal out, or a takeaway, or whatever and it not being the end of the world.

Also (and this might just be me) I don’t see taking this drug as a drastic option. I used nicotine patches to quit smoking, I take paracetamol when I have a headache and I’d definitely take anti-depressants if I needed to. There’s a medicine available which will help to treat my obesity. It isn’t drastic to take medicine to treat an illness.

Just as an fyi if counting calories you could still have a chocolate croissant and a breakfast wrap and have calories left over. Identifying foods that you shouldn't have is the start of a slippery slope. No food should be out of bounds. It's all about balance and not over eating.

My daily calorie goal with a deficit of 500 is 1500 calories.

So if someone wants a chocolate croissant 300 cals and a breakfast wrap 500 cals then they are perfectly within their rights to do so and still have calories left for an evening meal. Which could contain plenty of veg and protein that might have been lacking the rest of the day

PrimalLass · 24/04/2024 19:39

Jeez with the croissant comment. I'm in week 6 of Wegovy and could still happily scran a croissant every day.

I'm toying with ordering MJ but I took Ozempic 18 months ago (just one dose) and was as sick as a dog

However - ive just checked what I ordered back then and for some weird reason, I went in full pelt at a 1 mg pen as opposed to the starter dose of 0.25 which you then gradually increase to 0.5 before moving on to the 1mg

So do we think I may be ok with 0.25 MJ?!

Humptydumpty85 · 24/04/2024 20:12

Just did my first injection and it was absolutely fine - thanks to everyone who reassured me! For anyone else feeling nervous, the needle is tiny, went in with practically no pressure and I didn't feel it at all. Was actually a bit worried it hadn't gone in, but I could see a small mark afterwards so it must have. Excited to see how I'm feeling tomorrow!

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 24/04/2024 20:13

Do you all pinch belly fat to inject into? Just trying to work out what to do.

sweetpickle2 · 24/04/2024 20:33

I do pinch it, not sure if it’s necessary but I watched a YouTube video where they said to and I just followed that.

Didnt eat lunch today and wasn’t even that hungry by the time dinner rolled round- I was very busy at work so might have just been that, but it’s unlike me. Then only managed half my dinner!

Ghilliedu · 24/04/2024 20:33

Wait, we can’t eat croissants? I don’t think anyone should have to justify their choice of food here. It’s not the healthiest breakfast but I had a pret granola pot yesterday that was about the same amount of calories. I’ve also still eaten chocolate, I just make sure I’m not overdoing it. As a pp said, no food is ‘bad’ and that’s an unhealthy attitude to take towards food. Moderation is key!

Not sure if this helps but I too was sick as a dog on Ozempic- never really got past the starting dose. Had horrendous vomiting, nausea and anxiety, so much so it left me with some emetaphobia I’d never had before, but in 8 weeks I lost 2 stone!

Came off it when I could no longer bare the side effects and went back to mounjaro 3 weeks ago. All started so well on 2.5mg and had no effects other than appetite suppression…

But between 2-3 jab I’ve had some horrendous ozempic like side effects, nausea and sickness like you could not believe. Spent Saturday with my head in the toilet, have lost 8lb in a week as I couldn’t keep anything down.

So have opted to come off it and try and continue without it. But I do wonder if some people are just more susceptible to side effects on GLp1!

ToddUnctious1 · 24/04/2024 21:05

@Canyoudigityesyoucan you could be similar to me then! Or maybe I'll be similar to you!

I've decided to order MJ for the 4 weeks and see how I get on. Using a code meant it was £114 which I think is reasonable and not too much money to waste should I only be able to stomach it for a few weeks!

I was sick several times on Ozempic and other times I had to make myself sick because the nauseous feeling was just too much - thank god it wore off as soon as I stopped taking it - although this was days as opposed to hours worse luck

Are you still taking the MJ now?

ToddUnctious1 · 24/04/2024 21:06

@Canyoudigityesyoucan sorry - just read properly and can see you've decided to stop it for now. Good decision maybe. Have you much more to lose?

I think I’m one of the people who is hyper sensitive to it, injected Monday morning - appetite gone by dinner time, lots of vomiting last night, had my tea a couple of hours ago (two chicken sausages, spoonful of mash and 2 spoons of beans, literally half of a side plate) and now have cramps and diarrhoea.

And this dose isn’t even meant to be therapeutic, I think I would pass out on a full dose 🤦🏼‍♀️

olympicsrock · 24/04/2024 21:15

So many of us ! I did my second injection on Tuesday MJ 2.5 mg Lost 7 lb in the first week without really trying.
I seem to have reflux the first 48 hours , also shivery until day 5 with cold hands foot and nose. Also thirsty is I drink alcohol…
Feeling super motivated!

ToddUnctious1 · 24/04/2024 21:33

@GingerFoxInAT0phat are you planning to stick with it? Sorry to hear you're feeling rough

As I stupidly went all in last time with Ozempic at the top dose (this was when you could order what you fancied! Nowhere near as stringent as it is now!) I'm hoping that starting off sensibly will help but who knows?

StaySpicy · 24/04/2024 21:50

I'm not sure I could bring myself to pinch! I might just try it in as is... 😬

Ghilliedu · 24/04/2024 22:29

I don’t pinch. Unfortunately I still have enough fat that I don’t really need to!

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 24/04/2024 22:39

I actually think it will be easier to pinch as creates a harder surface to inject into which is why I was making sure it was OK to do. I used to pinch when injecting my dad with his anti clot injections. Definitely made it easier to jab. I take bloods as part of my job... I shouldn't have so many questions about this part.. 😂 (I'm not medically trained)

No im not going to take any more, I’m hoping it wears off pretty quick as everything I’m eating is either coming up or falling out of me 🙈

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 24/04/2024 23:24

I pinched. I'm not sure I needed to. The needle went in so easily.
What angle are you supposed to inject at? The video I watched said 90 degrees which I took to mean straight in, so it was at right angles to my stomach (to the extent you can have a right angle to a roll of fat!) but the image seemed to be at a slant, perhaps more like a 45 degree angle.

Ghilliedu · 25/04/2024 09:36

So I usually inject on a Saturday but was considering doing my 3rd dose of 2.5 today instead as I’ve been feeling like it’s wearing off really quickly and the last 2 days I’ve struggled not to go back to old habits and have definitely been eating more.

but I jumped on the scales out of interest and I’ve lost another 5lbs already this week - so just over 9 in 2 weeks and now I’m torn. Maybe I should just wait til Saturday since it’s still working?

QuiltedHippo · 25/04/2024 09:46

Why don't you compromise and do it Friday @Ghilliedu? I think it's good to test the will power and adding in healthier snacks if needed for long term planning.
Also thinking mixing things up over the week is probably a good idea, I don't worry too much about having tiny amounts on my most suppressed days knowing I'll be eating a bit more later in the week - keep the body on its toes!

JONSWIFEY · 25/04/2024 11:39

I been on Wegovy since early Feb and now lost a total of 22lbs. I am on my second 1.7 dose. 14lbs to go for my target weight. Keep it up everyone, it is worth it. I can't do excercise apart from a short walk due to medical condition but have cut my portions, made healthier food choices and cut alcohol to a minimum. Used to have a bottle of wine every night, now can only manage one glass on weekends.

Amazing loss, @JONSWIFEY , well done!

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 25/04/2024 12:55

Amazing Jonswifey! Do you mind me asking what start weight was and where you are now?

I have a wedding in July and I don't know if I should put off shopping or would I have the possibility of having lost a dress size by then and I should hold out to closer to the time.

Another question I have just thought off, what are yous doing with your shape bins when then are full? Just return to your local pharmacy?

Ghilliedu · 25/04/2024 13:18

@QuiltedHippo That could be a good compromise. I’m not feeling quite as hungry as yesterday so I definitely think I’ll be ok for another day.

Amazing loss @JONSWIFEY well done!

@Beyondbeliefsometimes I would wait. You could lose quite a lot by July. I have a big family event at the end of June and I’m definitely waiting to go shopping. I would really like to have dropped a dress size by then or at the very least feel more comfortable in my clothes.
