Starting this thread for all the newbies who are just starting out.

I'm going to be taking mounjaro.
Expecting my first pen hopefully tomorrow.

Anyone else just starting out?

Hi, jumping on this thread as I have only just taken second injection of MJ yesterday. I had a 4lb loss. Haven’t tracked calories, protein etc as of yet.
Had dry mouth yesterday for the first time, better today.
I have a lot to lose compared to some so going to be around a while.

schoolie258 · 19/04/2024 13:58

Just took my first dose as my pen only arrives today. I was a bit nervous and followed the instructions carefully but it was pretty straight forward. I've stored mine in the fridge.
Looking forward to seeing what happens this week. (If anything) I will keep you all updated and do my best to keep track of this thread.

I'm quite newbie - on week one of WG 0.5. It's not had much of an effect so far. I wonder if I'm one of the people it doesn't really work for.

PrimalLass · 19/04/2024 14:04

Medexpress rejected me too because I take a natural thyroxine.

Cybele311 · 19/04/2024 14:05

Hi, I started a week ago with Wegovy 0.25, with great trepidation about possible side effects, but it's going pretty well so far. The only side effect I have experienced is very mild nausea. However, the effect of the drug overall has been astonishing. Within an hour of the first injection, both my appetite and the food noise in my head just switched off. Usually I'm always thinking about where my next meal/snack is coming from. I used to think about food constantly - not any more. It's startling. I am eating very small meals of lean protein, vegetables and fruit, because that's all I want. I cook some lean chicken, then put a small amount of it in a bowl mixed with a quarter of an M&S high protein nutty wholefood salad, and that is as much as I can eat. To begin with I put a larger quantity in the bowl, but found I lost interest half way through. This is so bizarre - losing interest in a small plate of food halfway through eating it is an entirely new experience for me. I'm normally drawn to high fat foods, and unable to resist crisps, but now I can look at them quite unmoved. I HATED not being able to resist junk food that I knew, rationally, was extremely bad for me. Now I feel as if Wegovy is empowering me to give a V sign to the processed food industry. I've always eaten healthily, but far too much; there seemed to be no off switch on my appetite. And then there was the big weakness for crisps etc. But Wegovy has changed this radically.

It's strange, but wonderful, and incredibly liberating. I've just had the second 0.25 injection, having lost approximately 3kg in the first week. Fingers crossed it will continue like this. I should add that I normally do quite a lot of exercise, weight training at the gym 3/4 times a week, and walking a couple of miles a day, and Wegovy is making no difference to that.

@schoolie258 to be fair I only started Wednesday so maybe the second dose will kick in or something - fingers crossed.

I’m pretty sure I will lose some weight this week as I have been eating less out of sheer stubbornness and I was on an all inclusive holiday last week

I injected my first 2.5mg on Tuesday and thought I was also having no effects on hunger/appetite/cravings as I was eating smaller meals but only through willpower alone but I’ve woken up today and have barely been able to finish any meals so far. Felt zero interest in breakfast this morning so made a protein shake and could only have half of it, and it’s been the same again for my lunch. All I tried to eat was a sandwich and carrot/cucumber sticks with hummus - managed half the sandwich and resigned myself to slowly picking at the carrot/cucumber for the rest of the afternoon. Maybe it can take a couple of days to peak in some people?

MendaciousMabel · 19/04/2024 15:11

I’m definitely feeling fuller today compared to yesterday and I’ve eaten pretty much the same thing. Finding it so hard to up my protein as I’m just not used to thinking about it much and also not drinking anywhere near enough water. I’m back at work soon and I drink loads of water at my desk and I can probably get a bit more creative with my meals and adding protein in too. Just so hard atm when I’ve got a clingy baby!

Cheeseismyfavourite · 19/04/2024 16:05

@giraffetasticc fingers crosses I’ll be like you then. Hopefully this means I won’t suffer with nasty side effects

Some people feel it straight away. Others peak at about day 3, I am the latter it seems, for the second week in a row.

AgathaMystery · 19/04/2024 17:56

I just wanted to say good luck to you all, I have just done my 6th injection & have lost steadily each week (but not each day). I am 6kg down and feel great about it.

You can do it!!

MendaciousMabel · 19/04/2024 18:05

I’m only on week 1 of 2.5mg but I’m already a bit scared to go up to 5mg, I’ll be back at work so really don’t want to be unwell!

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesn · 19/04/2024 18:09

Silly question but the price, is it £125 for one dose or does the pen thingy last a week or month? Trying to work out how it works. Can anyone explain it really simply?

Cybele311 · 19/04/2024 18:14

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesn one pen lasts for a month - one injection a week for 4 weeks

schoolie258 · 19/04/2024 18:30

@PrimalLass - what do you mean by natural thyroxine?

OP posts:
PrimalLass · 19/04/2024 19:11

So not levothyroxine. I take desiccated pig or cow thyroid instead. It's what they would have prescribed before they created synthetic levo.

NoImNotCurvyImFat · 19/04/2024 20:29

second jab tomorrow and I shall weigh myself my clothes do feel more comfortable

I feel physically so much better, I am getting tired in the afternoon but it’s a physical tiredness not sluggishness that I feel I am often in because I rely on sugar so much and I am not reaching for the biscuits! I still want sweet food but a little Is satisfying

i am so pleased with it’s like something has switched in my brain I also feel I am able to focus better (limits to this as I am peri 😆)

queenofcruises · 19/04/2024 20:31

i was on wegovy for about 6 months, i took a break about 2 months ago because i was struggling with some of the side effect and i couldnt get hold of the higher dose.

i have just ordered a new pen, at the starting dose of .25mg because i am really struggling on my own and i dont want to gain all the weight i have lost

Humptydumpty85 · 19/04/2024 20:32

Hi everyone, hope youre all getting on okay! I'm planning to order tomorrow - I have 2-3 stone to lose and feel that this is a last resort so desperately hoping that get good results. Maybe a stupid question but.... how do you dispose of the needles after use? Can't seem to find any sharps collection in my area if the medication is not prescribed via the nhs.

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 19/04/2024 20:48

Took the third dose today of 0.25. Down 12lb in 2 weeks which I am really pleased with.

Had moved to Mounjaro as Ozempic gave me horrendous side effects. So far I’ve not had anywhere near the level of side effects I had with Ozempic, but did have some horrendous nausea and diarrhoea last week which I think was the result of eating a small portion of potato salad. I find the higher fat I eat, the worse the symptoms are!

Do also feel much better the more I drink. Doing an electrolyte tablet twice a day with a litre of water and think that might have contributed to the sickness last week.

Hoping to stay on 0.25 for as long as possible as long as I feel this way!

I ordered my pen from Asda and they sent me a sharps bin with it. Not sure if other sites do the same?

Thanks @Ghilliedu - do you just return the sharps bin to Asda once it's full?

I’m actually not sure! I’ll need to see if it says anything about that in the info they sent me

SallyMcNally · 19/04/2024 23:02

Thought I might say hi. I’m halfway through week 4 and my 0.5mg pen has just arrived. I have had minimal side effects with the 0.25 but after a month I definitely feel like the third and fourth jab haven't been as effective as the first and second so I do think I’m ready to go up. Weightloss has been impressive though!

SW: 104.5kg
CW:94.5kg
GW: not sure, 60-70kg maybe

QuiltedHippo · 19/04/2024 23:25

Wow @SallyMcNally 10kg is amazing.

Just had my first meal out, ordered a starter and some broccoli - who am I!? Had couple of glasses of processco and feel OK on it. Slightly sore stomach but think it's some trapped wind. Was bit nervous but hopefully thats worst of it as don't want to be a hermit for months!

schoolie258 · 20/04/2024 03:23

@PrimalLass oh okay, I was just asking because I take Levo and I'm on Mounjaro. I wonder why med express denied you due to the thyroid thing
