Starting this thread for all the newbies who are just starting out.

I'm going to be taking mounjaro.
Expecting my first pen hopefully tomorrow.

Anyone else just starting out?

How long did it take to be approved @humptydumpty85? I applied last night and currently eating circles all round me. Can't get full, but period is due. So I'm hoping it doesn't take that long.

Another question I was wondering, did it help solve anyone's cravings for fizzy soft drinks such a coke and lucozade? I have read a few people say it did. I drink a ridiculous amount.

I love a coke zero, and I'm still drinking 1 a day (for caffeine, my toddler doesn't sleep and I don't like coffee!) but not tempted by more than that, and could genuinely take or leave them on peak suppressant days post jab.

TMI but I've had some urgent bowel movements this morning 🙈 Assuming it's from MJ but could be a bug. Anyone else has this ?

Mine seems to be a bit like this I go from
Constipated to the opposite super fast!

MendaciousMabel · 22/04/2024 18:44

Coke zero tastes a bit funny to me now and I used to have it quite often! Best way to describe mounjaro is you just don't really fancy anything! I do think about junk food but I don't really want it and it's easier for me to then stick to food I've got in and planned which is healthier.

NoImNotCurvyImFat · 22/04/2024 19:21

I had terrible nausea yesterday a day after my second jab. I had a toasted cheese sandwich and think it was just too much cheese

yes agree I don’t really fancy much, I haven’t gone off tea but haven’t enjoyed tea like I used to apart from a cup today

no cravings for biscuits, junk food, chocolate (apart from hot chocolate), happy not to have rice or pasta

no thinking oh well there is always tomorrow to cut back on carbs/sugar

it’s great 😊

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 22/04/2024 19:29

This sounds promising, I am really hoping it works for me. I got an email today to say it is on its way! Like others I am not telling my dh as he won't agree with it and will just tell me to eat less and go to the gym. With working full time and running two small kids to activities and adding in homeworks by the time bedtime comes around I want sugar and to curl up on sofa. I have tried eating less doing more and it just hasn't been working long term. I'm hoping this will give me the kick I need to get into a healthy lifestyle

Humptydumpty85 · 22/04/2024 19:55

I drink far too much diet Coke, so if it also turns me off that then it'll be a massive bonus!!
Probably getting ahead of myself here, but as 30 is the minimum bmi to start on the drug, does that mean that once your bmi is below 30 you're no longer able to continue?

giraffetasticc · 22/04/2024 20:22

End of week 1 for me and first weigh in tomorrow morning with jab 2 tomorrow night! Hoping I’ve managed to lose some weight, I’ve had some appetite suppression I think but it’s more like I’m getting bored a couple minutes into eating than getting full and I then want to eat again a few hours later. I’ve done some sneaky weigh ins over the week but it’s been fluctuating up and down a lot so not sure which way it’ll sit tomorrow!

definitely need to get a better grip on my eating next week but have found myself making better choices e.g went to McDonald’s and only had a burger and left the chips whereas usually I’d stuff myself with a large meal and sides and a mcflurry so I’m taking it as a win 🤗I’ve also not told anyone including my partner, I may eventually own up to it but I think he’s very much in the ‘just eat less and move more’ camp

Ghilliedu · 22/04/2024 20:52

I’m a complete Diet Coke addict and it has definitely made me drink less. Like someone else said, I often just don’t fancy anything. Also MJ can give you a really dry mouth and I find myself really craving water and I am usually really bad for never drinking water

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 22/04/2024 21:10

I have just done dose one having ordered it the best part of a fortnight ago but had various things on & couldn't risk having side effects during them. I think I got the dosing right. I watched the video but forgot the bit about leaving it in for 10 seconds. It did surprise me quite how far the twisty bit comes out when you are preparing the needle. It's at least an inch. I was expecting it to only be a cm or so and kept looking at it to see if I had somehow missed the number 1.
I am only just into the obese weight range but have been steadily going up for the past 2.5 years (hello peri!) and want to put a stop to it before it gets worse. In the last 2 years, I've tried all sorts of things to lose initially half stone from autumn/Christmas '22 and now the half stone from Christmas '23 too but nothing has worked. I am the fittest and strongest I have ever been but it's not that I'm carrying muscle as I'm just bigger all over and so much more bloated around the stomach. There are shoes I can't wear as they're just too tight.
Aim is to get back down to a healthy BMI but I was rarely that even in my 20s so would be happy with a BMI of 26. Being below 27 would mean the chub rub between my thighs would probably go away and my arms would hang more normally by my sides.
I am hoping to use this as an opportunity to focus on not just eating less but making sure that what I do eat is nutritious and delicious. I love so many veg and fruits and other things yet so often reach for the biscuit tin or toast.

GreyFinch · 22/04/2024 21:19

maybe slightly ahead of myself but does anyone have any good tips for minimising loose skin? I’m in the 40+ bmi range and still young at just under 30 so expecting to get loose skin (and I’ll take that over being fat any day) but wondered if anyone has seen any tips to minimise it as weight is being lost? Rather than trying to fix it after the fact?

MeAndMounjaro · 22/04/2024 21:55

I screenshot some recommended products for skin but not all available in the UK. When searching for them, Google suggested other similar ones though and so I'm keen to get Prai Crepe correct creme and Prai decolletege cream. On the long term threads it was recommended to take powdered or liquid collagen supplements so treat the outside and the in!

No you should be able to continue it until you're in the healthy BMI range they shouldn't stop it once your BMI is 30.

My first order will arrive tomorrow - slightly terrified I'll have no idea what to do with it, get it all wrong and have awful side effects.... Feeling quite anxious now!!

Take your time and follow the instructions really carefully- they've got pictures so it's simple when you get hold of it.
Lots of water and keep your diet reasonably plain first couple of days. Try have an easy day planned for the day after first jab while you assess what's going on.

I've been totally fine, now scared of moving up to 5mg!

I felt the same! The instructions are really clear and the needle is tiny, I barely felt it and I'm so scared of needles! Try not to over think side effects, sometimes I think if you're worrying about them you'll start to feel a bit funny or at least I did after I did the injection 😂

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 23/04/2024 09:43

I took m my first does last night & woke up ravenous this morning. Poached eggs on seeded bread with smoked salmon and greens for breakfast an hour ago and I'm already thinking about when I can next eat. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am. On a positive, no side effects yet although I am glugging water in case they kick in

Morning! I’m just about to take my 4th injection tomorrow.

Don’t worry! This is exactly how I felt for the first couple of days, and then all of a sudden all of the food noise stopped. I felt really disappointed too, but after 2 days it kicked in and has worked ever since. Keep us updated over the next couple days

giraffetasticc · 23/04/2024 09:59

First weigh in this morning and second jab of 2.5mg done!

I am -5lbs down!! I am shocked as I definitely didn’t feel much appetite suppression until day 3 and still had many cravings for chocolate (my weakness) throughout the week. Plan for this next week is to try and up my protein and fruit/veg intake for more fibre I think, hoping I don’t get hit with a wall of side effects as I’ve been relatively lucky so far

sweetpickle2 · 23/04/2024 12:56

Poking my head in to join- started with my first 2.5mg injection today!

Got the 50% off from Voy, going to see how the first month goes and decide if I think its worth continuing with.

SW 108kg
GW 90kg
(I'm very tall!)

Ghilliedu · 23/04/2024 15:59

Well done on all the losses and hello to all the newbies!

I feel so hungry today that I’m considering taking my next injection early (maybe Thursday, usually Saturday) Given we can get an extra dose from the pen it would still last me the same amount of time if I went to 5 days instead of 7. Also might prepare me for the jump up to the 5!!

StaySpicy · 23/04/2024 16:21

I had a constant kind of low-level tummy feel most of yesterday (after injecting my first 0.25mg on Saturday pm), but I seem over that now. I've managed to eat okay, just less than usual. I do need to be wary about snacking at home - I had two chocolate truffles and two Ski mousse after dinner yesterday, which doesn't sound like loads but I think it was a boredom thing rather than a need to eat them, so something to watch out for. I must use this expense as a chance to reframe my thinking around food!!

Beyondbeliefsometimes · 23/04/2024 16:30

Soo mine arrived today, and so much from hiding it from my dh. He took the delivery while I was at work and it says keep in the refrigerator and he had thought I had bought ice cream so opened it to put away. He was very confused with a delivery to be put in a fridge. Surprisingly he hasn't been too opinionated on it. Is more having a laugh, and reckons he is going to lose weight without it at the same rate as me, as a competition. So we will see... If it serves us both to get healthier it will be definitely worth while. We do like a bit of competition.

We do have vouchers from a local Indian we got at Christmas and haven't used yet. So I booked it in for Saturday. Would you all suggest I hold of until sat or Sunday to do first injection? I want to enjoy it as we haven't ate there yet and we have been looking forward to it for months. Any advice welcome. I will weigh myself the morning I start to get my accurate starting weight

StaySpicy · 23/04/2024 16:43

Personally I would wait until after your meal. You might feel ill in some way, or not like eating much.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 23/04/2024 17:41

I hope that that is the case @Feelingslightlyuneasy. I feel that there is a lot riding on this. It is good to read about other people's successes.
I feel as though I have had quite a carb heavy day having had pasta at lunch and another bit of toast just now as I was hungry and will be eating late this evening. I'm going to have a strategic tuna salad for tea tonight so my calories should be just under 1500 (when I was aiming for 1400) and, having had a protein yogurt and a protein shake, I will hit 100g of protein.

QuiltedHippo · 23/04/2024 18:01

Third dose of 2.5mg last night and it's taken until now to kick in. Was in by breakfast before. Was thinking of staying with 2.5mg but definitely going for 5mg next time. Just not quite sure when to order, will try for the bonus dose but if it goes wrong I want a new pen on hand.

Weighing in tomorrow morning as I've been moving my jab dates around.
