Mounjaro and wegovy newbies April 2024

Starting this thread for all the newbies who are just starting out.

I'm going to be taking mounjaro.
Expecting my first pen hopefully tomorrow.

Anyone else just starting out?

Where are people buying their needles to get the last extra dose of MJ out? How do I know I'm buying the right ones

I didn’t extract mine, just did a hard twist and used a normal needle but not sure if you get quite as much out doing it that way.

What is a hard twist? I keep reading about this.

The last bit of mine has some small air bubbles in. Could that be dangerous?

Just to point out that 4 doses isn't 28 days as you take the first dose on day 1, 2nd on day 7, 3rd on day 14 and 4th on day 21 so there is some leeway there if wanting to take a lower dose but not much.

If trying to take a lower dose from a higher one you could take them closer together I guess so not keeping the pen going for longer than 30 days.

I've not been messing about and adjusting anything. I've just taken it as prescribed.

When I had my first pen held up by Royal Mail over a bank holiday weekend, MedExpress told me that the pen lasts six weeks once it reaches room temperature and its just sent at the refrigerator temperature to prolong that start point.

You just have to twist the pen REALLY hard and then you’re able to get another dose out of it. It wasn’t too difficult but did hurt my hand a wee bit. Some people have used pliers!

it tells you in the leaflet how to get rid of air bubbles so I’d just do that before injecting

Yes, week 5 here, still on 2.5 but I’ve been absolutely shattered this week. Had to have a nap in my car during my lunch break at work! Been in bed by 9pm latest all week. I do feel better if I have water + electrolytes, but it’s marginal.

Is everyone keeping the Mounjaro pen in the fridge after opening it?

I keep mine in the fridge but I know you don't have to.

I took my first 5mg on Tuesday, I've had no appetite yesterday and today, I had a small chicken breast with veg and some nandos sauce for flavour and feel so full. Very odd.

I will start mine tomorrow, I have started feeling hungry in the evening in the last few days so know I am ready for the higher dose

I was on Mounjaro for one month at 2.5 with some indigestion and nausea and a bit of a change in appetite. Weight loss was minimal. I went up to 5.0 just over a week ago and everything has changed. 24 hours after the shot I felt really sick and extremely tired. The next day I was sweating, vomiting and in bed. Things still aren't much better. Now I also have stomach cramps and small volume watery diarrhea. I feel generally really unwell and wiped out. I am prone to irregular heartbeats and now have this constantly. I'm drinking water but have eaten nothing but a few grissini and a couple of Yogurts in a week. I've been to my doctor who prescribed anti nausea drugs. He said the half live of Mounjaro was around 5 days and predicted it would pass shortly yet I feel no better. I've now missed my next dose, I dare not take it. Does this all sound familiar to anyone, is this the end of my mounjaro journey or do I have something else wrong. I will of course be going back to the doctor.

@Hypat1a This sounds very familiar! I didn’t even go up to the full 5mg. I counted the clicks to 3.75mg as I’d heard people had problems with such a big jump from 2.5. I took it on Sunday evening and from Monday night I was vomiting and just completely wiped out. I’m only just starting to feel better today. I’m not sure what to do about my next dose. I might go down to 3mg and try to build up a bit slower

Thanks for sharing. I am not sure whether ti persevere but thinking waiting until I'm better and then going back to 2 5. It's just staying with me so long I was starting to question if something else was causing my symptoms. Still very ill and 8 days since last injection.

It could be a mix of MJ and maybe something else and the timing was just coincidental? Definitely let yourself recover first and then maybe go back to 2.5 and titrate up slowly by adding a bit more each week. That’s definitely what I’m going to do because I can’t go through this again and have had 3 days off work with it

Do you know if anyone else locally is ill? Apparently our local hospital has a number of people in with food poisoning, source not yet found.
I wonder if it could be something else seeing as it isn't settling?

Hi - I am assuming these things are unconnected but quick q... I've been on Mourjaro for 3 weeks, great results so far of 20lbs gone... but today I found a lump in my breast (I regularly check). I am just wondering if anyone else experienced hormonal changes that led to a breast lump or any similar things? I'm guessing they're unconnected and lump is being checked monday - just felt like I needed to check here just to rule it out??

@CTRight I lost about a stone a good few months ago and then found a breast lump. It turned out to be nothing sinister and the nurse at hospital asked me if I'd recently lost weight when I had the ultrasound. And when I told her yes she said that weight loss affects hormones in breast tissue and that was the reason. So it's probably that. Fingers crossed. I wasn't on wegovy at the time so not sure if that might also have an impact but weight loss does trigger changes.

Hello everyone,

Just injected first dose of Wegovy tonight. I have needle phobia so it took about 3 efforts and pep talks 😅. I am an extremely anxious person about medicine often to the point of feeling phantom side effects/pain (currently feeling a couple)…Just feeling really overwhelmed tbh…feel like there is a foreign thing inside my body…I hope I don’t have a panic attack…trying to keep busy by posting here and reading about how everyone is getting on.
