Expecting my first pen hopefully tomorrow.

Are people generally going upto 5mg for the second month? That's what medexpress have recommended for me, but I'm wondering if it's necessary if 2.5 is working? Any pros or cons to not moving up that you're aware of? Thanks!

I was also going to ask this. I am about to have my third dose and lost 8lb in both weeks - so 16 lb in total. I am nervous about increasing my dose as I am struggling with nausea and have to force myself to eat. I would rather stay on 2.5.

Sw 18 stone 1
Cw 16 stone 13
Gw 10 stone

Ghilliedu · 07/05/2024 19:08

I think it’s up to you if you move up or not. The 2.5 isn’t meant to be a therapeutic dose so I think they just assume you’ll move up but if you’re losing well and feeling side effects I don’t think there’s any reason you can’t order another 2.5

Cerialkiller · 07/05/2024 19:28

I'm due 3rd Jab on Friday and planning to go up a dose next month yes. My side effects have been minimal but the positive effects are reducing more and earlier then week one. I'm losing weight but this is because food thoughts are still less and I'm motivation by not wasting the cash which is helping my will power.

I don't want to find myself in week 6-7 with no effect at all. My first 3 days of jab one were blissful, physically satisfied despite not eating much. I want that back. It's a question you need to ask yourself.

Feelingslightlyuneasy · 08/05/2024 07:30

Hey morning I wanted to see if anyone else has a similar situation to me in that Mounjaro doesn’t appear to be too effective.
ive lost 6.5lbs in 5 weeks (starting weight was 181)

I have just taken my 2nd injection of 5mg and have been walking 5-7 miles a day, had appetite suppression and also drunk lots of water.

it just seems very underwhelming in comparison to others, and genuinely I have been eating no more than 1300 calories a day. I just don’t get why I am not seeing the losses?

catslave23 · 08/05/2024 09:10

I took my second injection of 2.5mg last night and weighed this morning.
Lost 2.1kg in week 1.
Really pleased with that.
Appetite definitely crept up towards the end of the week and I was unwell over the weekend and very snacky!
Feeling positive about week 2!

SW - 75.5kg
CW - 73.4kg
GW - 50kg

That's the amount I'm losing too - just over 1lb a week.

Humptydumpty85 · 08/05/2024 11:25

3rd dose of 2.5 tonight - I've decided I will order the 5mg next. Looking like a 2lb loss this week which is less than I'd hoped for but never mind! 8lb loss overall so far.

InspectorGidget · 09/05/2024 08:36

Day 3 here and feel no different at all.

Apart from waking up with a very dry mouth - although I have been reading about how Mounjaro can reduce inflammation - which I suffer with terribly as have fibromyalgia.

I try to keep as active as I can but it's difficult when carrying so much extra weight. I was at a conference yesterday and was knackered when I got home.

I'm hoping this really does kick start my final attempt to get healthy as I age (45 now).

I've placed my next order with med express. A bit early but I found a code for 25% off - STARTNOW

sweetpickle2 · 09/05/2024 10:09

I'm on my third injection now, and I have noticed that while I'm not as actively off food as I was to start with (first week the idea of eating made me nauseous) I don't have as much food noise- and I eat what I need rather than just eating and eating endlessly till the food is gone.

We had a takeaway curry last night as that's what I fancied, and I had just a couple of spoonfuls of curry and sauce and a spoonful of rice and a poppadum- it's the sort of portion I've seen other people have my whole life and thought HOW?? While I've had a whole curry, rice, naan and ten million poppadums to myself 😂

I am joining this as it seems to be the newbies thread and I have a few questions. I am 14.10 stone and have been so depressed about my weight for years. I broke my foot - doctor said I needed to lose weight, was hospitalised with Covid - told I should lose weight. I swim 4 times a week and do 10000 steps walking a day dog walking and eat healthily. I am 49, on HRT and have asthma and eat healthily but cannot shift the weight. Really wanting to start a weight loss injection but not sure which one? I'm on HRT, Asthma medication and weaning off Sertraline. Do I (1) need to consult my doctor to ask if I can go on weight loss drugs? (2) Which one should I go on? (3) How long do you need to go on them for? (4) We have a holiday booked to Thailand in the summer. Can I take the medication overseas? (4) When do you start noticing a difference and (5) what is the most reputable company to buy the medication from?

ShrinkingDaffodil · 10/05/2024 06:21

1st week completed and 4ib loss! Really pleased with that 🥰
I was hoping for 3.5ib a week in the hope of losing a stone by the end of my 1at 4 weeks so pretty chuffed!

@wondabar

  1. you don’t need to consult your doctor, most of the sites do ask you to give permission for them to inform your doctor but I used VOY as they ask you to inform them yourself (I have reasons I didn’t want it to be on my medical record so this was better for me)
  2. I have only tried mounjaro and am finding it pretty good with minimal side effects but may be other peopl who have trie diff ones who can help you more
  3. Check the gov website for that country I think and it should tell you but not 100% sure
  4. I I think going from this there’s & others im on most people have a loss in the first week but the official suggestion for mounjaro is weight loss from 4 weeks 🤷🏼‍♀️
  5. Again, I have only used VOy but see a lot using med express & others so may be worth looking around

if you do use voy (and for anyone else that may be starting) feel free to use my code for 50% off your first order, I used one for my first month so worked out £115 for first pen!
I also get 50% off my next month too if you use it - like I say, that’s the cheapest I have seen it for the first pen but after that it is more expensive but I don’t want to move suppliers as I don’t want them to inform my doctor!

Upinthenightagain · 10/05/2024 08:59

Just been approved by Asda. Phew! Hope it arrives soon.

Ghilliedu · 10/05/2024 13:29

@wondabar when you go through the consultation for any of the weight loss meds they’ll show a list of other medications and ask about what else you’re on so they’ll tell you if it’s ok or not.

I think the general consensus seems to be Mounjaro has slightly better results but it does also depend on the person. So far I’ve had hardly any side effects but am about to move up to 5mg so that could change!

in terms of going abroad, the only issue might be around temp as it’s meant to be stored under 30 degrees but if you can get around that I don’t think there episode be an issue. Many people have said it’s just like taking insulin if you’re diabetic.

I’ve used both Asda and Medexpress and had decent service from both.

@Upinthenightagain So glad you got approved! When I used Asda they delivered next day so should arrive soon!

InspectorGidget · 10/05/2024 15:28

Day 4.... no change on the scales but that's ok.

I've been 'in the cupboards' before realising this is out of habit rather than actually wanting anything so I've not snacked in the evenings at all.....

Today though I am sooooo drained. Which could be fibro but literally everything is an effort. I managed to hang up some washing and then go back to bed!

I'm booked on a spin class later and I will force myself to go!

Husband has suggested a chilled evening with a few drinks in the garden but I really can't face the thought of alcohol and spin seems like the better option!

I also can't be arsed planning dinner for the family! Not sure if this is the mounjaro at work or just my brain playing games!!

wondabar · 10/05/2024 15:43

@ShrinkingDaffodil and @Ghilliedu thanks for answering my questions. I'm very keen to start on Mounjaro but just trying to cover all areas as it is a big financial commitment.
How long are you planning on staying on it? I've read that you can easily put all the weight back on once you stop taking it.
Is there a better time of the day or week to take it? Some people say that it is best to
Not take the injection before the weekend so that you don't feel too nauseous.
For those of you who were hesitant, what was your main hesitation, and has taking it made you realise that there was no need to be hesitant?
And lastly, are you happy that you've started the treatment and does it make you feel more confident?

Ghilliedu · 10/05/2024 16:04

@wondabar You’re right, it is a big financial commitment. I’m definitely spending less on snacks and take aways though so that offsets some of the cost. I will hopefully stay on it as long as they’ll let me. I think with medexpress they’ll prescribe it til your BMI is 23. Mine is currently 35 so that seems a long way off but I will continue with it as long as it works. Regain g the weight is definitely a worry but I’m trying to use this time to get into better habits and break my cycle of emotional and boredom eating!

with my 1st injection, I waited til I had a quiet weekend and injected on the Saturday morning so I had time to deal with the side effects. Since then my body has clearly got used to it and I just inject whenever I have time and it doesn’t affect me anymore. I’m fully expecting that to change when I take my first 5mg so will time that for a day I don’t have anything happening.

in response to your last question. I am SO happy I’ve started this journey. I was hesitant and took a few weeks to actually order my first pen. Now I wish I’d just started as soon as it became available. I’m 11lbs down in less than a month and although that is slow compared to some I am delighted. I’ve noticed a difference in some clothes and walking up hills is getting a bit easier. I’d genuinely recommend it to anyone. It’s not a miracle cure, you still need some willpower but it is a fabulous tool and I’d never have shifted this weight without it

yorkypuds · 10/05/2024 17:18

I've just done my 3rd injection on Friday teatime. I'm finding that I'm ravenous all day Friday and literally on the verge of a binge by the time I get in from work. I'm wondering if I took it in the morning, whether I would just sleep through that real drop at the end of the week.
Anyone else tried it?

ShrinkingDaffodil · 10/05/2024 18:24

@wondabar ive only done one week, second injection this evening (I decided to take it on Fridays as weekends are my worst time for binging!!) honestly so glad I started as I am so happy with the hunger suppression so far!
My plan is to stay on it 3 months if I can afford to, ideally 6 months to get me where I need to be but obviously that is a lot of money, hence why I’m doing VOY and trying to get the 50% off, but I have budgeted for 3 months worth at full cost if I don’t get any discounts. I’m hoping I’d lose 1.5-2 stone in 3 months which would set me up to lose the other 1.5 stone myself once my eating habits have changed 🤞🏼

tinpeach · 10/05/2024 22:01

I've been so good for the first two weeks - I've lost 9lbs which i'm chuffed with. HOWEVER, I had a moment of weakness and had a kebab for my Friday night tea. I am feeling so full, and so guilty. I probably won't need to eat much tomorrow, I'll probably still be feeling full up.

ShrinkingDaffodil · 11/05/2024 06:17

@tinpeach 9ib is amazing!!!
I think having one slip up won’t have too much of an effect, and if you’re too full to eat today it’ll cancel it out 🤭

ClonedSquare · 11/05/2024 06:32

I did my first injection on Wednesday night and I'm 2lbs down already. Usually I drop weight quite quickly in the first week of a diet, but I've been drinking a lot of water due to the heat and warnings about constipation on mounjaro.

It's been such a strange feeling these past two days. I don't feel averse to food at all and if I make an effort, I can eat as much as I usually do (it was my birthday yesterday so we had a meal out for example). But other times it just doesn't cross my mind at all and I don't feel any hunger. I try to do 16:8 and usually by my 11am first meal I'm ravenous, but now I'm going until way past midday without any issue. I've never understood people who say they forget to eat when they're busy, but I can definitely see that could have happened the past two days!

ThirdStorm · 11/05/2024 08:29

@InspectorGidget that was me earlier in the week. Totally habit not need or hunger. It gave me a good wake up call.

ThirdStorm · 11/05/2024 08:33

I took my third dose yesterday and I’ve not felt hungry. I didn’t even in the run up to the third dose. For me it’s like it’s now building and blocking the food noise totally. Long may that continue! Second pen arrived yesterday and I’m staying on 2.5.

jamtastic · 11/05/2024 09:30

Just ordered with Voy and feeling anxious about the cost! Here's my code for 50% off first order. Hope it helps someone.

Week 2 and no weight loss!
It has to come off though as I'm really not eating very much!
Going to try not to weigh daily this week and just weigh next Saturday morning!
I've already got the next pen in the fridge so I'm not giving up!
