Expecting my first pen hopefully tomorrow.

I'd give MedExpress a ring, @Upinthenightagain. My order was automatically rejected as I was dreading taking the photos and procrastinated so long it timed out. I rang and spoke to the nicest person who gave me a new code to use etc. She couldn't have been more reassuring and helpful. You could ask if you could submit another photo.

I'd imagined that the photo screening is done automatically by an algorithm? I hated taking it, but anyone seeing them will have seen so many I reckon they won't give them a second glance.

Ghilliedu · 06/05/2024 22:27

I’ve read somewhere that medexpress use AI to screen the photos. Not sure if it’s true but it made me feel a bit better about it.

I did email over a second set. I suppose it’s a good sign really they’re being careful

Can I join you please? I've been approved by bolt and my first lot is in the post. Do you take it in the morning or at night? What foods should I be eating? Sounds like most of you are low carbing is that right? Also I usually do intermittent fasting so generally eat in a 6 hour window. Will that work with MJ? Sorry if you've all already answered these questions! I'm so eager to get this right.

I think only a few of us are doing keto at the same time, most are just trying to cut down where they can. Yes intermittent fasting is fine (at least it works for me). I only keto because I can only afford 4 months on mj and have read that is a way to maximise results. I keto frequently anyway so it wasn't a hard choice.

I think some people find the high fat content on keto can cause some gastro side effects but it's been ok for me. I generally eat a lot of veggies though and have been keeping fat slightly more limited then I would usually buy choosing food without a tonne of cheese or cream. Probably eating more protein as a result.

stormsurfer · 07/05/2024 07:08

@Cerialkiller thank you, that makes sense. I think I'll aim for smaller portions, increased protein and reduced refined carbs to start with. My eating has been far too sugar heavy and junk food laden for a long time.

What time of day do you inject?

InspectorGidget · 07/05/2024 07:45

I bit the bullet and did my first injection last night. Tossed and turned all night it seemed so not sure if I'd got myself a bit worked up but it's done now.

Weighed this morning.

SW - 237lbs
GW - 197lbs by August - we're off to Italy for a friend's wedding.

I really hope to get back into the proper swing of Intermittent Fasting as this suited me really well before I had a hip replacement - I used this as a convenient excuse to fall off the wagon.

Now I just need to to work out where to get my next pens from as I bought from Voy.

My 50% off code if anyone wants to order from them first as it was a great offer - I'll give it a couple of weeks and if I don't get another discount I'll have a hunt around. I've taken a photo of my dose etc.

ThirdStorm · 07/05/2024 08:19

@Cerialkiller @stormsurfer I keto too and I've just cut down on the fat which makes keto less effective but it should save me from any nasty side effects.

MeAndMounjaro · 07/05/2024 08:20

Week 4 weigh in and I'm 13.8lbs down 🥳 so super close to 1 stone off which I'm overjoyed about. 9lbs until the next stone bracket where I haven't been for 10 years and where I will really feel the change!

Injecting first 5mg in the early evening, was happy enough on 2.5mg but wanting to follow the plan as intended!

Weirdly, I'm not gaining 'carb weight' when I occasionally have carbs. On keto I used to gain 2 or 3lbs overnight from having carb. Maybe because when I had carbs on keto it would have been a blow out of pizza or fish and chip so sat heavily too.

Yesterday I had two mini soft taco chicken wraps and half small chips from Taco Bell, didn't expect to still drop a pound overnight so I'm learning I can tolerate a small amount of carbs. My only concern is how it would affect my blood sugar hunger spike off Mounjaro.

Jamsconesxx · 07/05/2024 08:42

Hey, I've just received my 1st pen from medexpress. I'm surprised some people were rejected as my BMI under 30. May e they accepted as I have a large tummy and it increases risk of cardiovascular disease

Carelesswispalover · 07/05/2024 08:58

Hi all, hoping to join the monjaro train, ordered from medexpress yesterday and apparently it's on its way so I'm impressed.
I'm 5ft 10 and 16 stone, weight carried mainly around my middle, back and and belly.
I've struggled with my weight for about 10 years, but use food as an emotional support so will be interesting to see how that pans out.
I'm nervous about side effects especially diarrhea, I have a phobia of using public toilets especially for no.2s so I'm really hoping this doesn't happen.
I can WFH for a few days after taking the first dose so hopefully any symptoms will happen then!

I've felt that niggle if shame about taking the easy way out, but it's not is it, no doubt that's how my family would see it if I told them. DH is supportive but I can tell he has doubts/worries, but for me this is less drastic than surgery or worse, staying this way and ending up with heart disease or diabetes, which my dad has and he really struggles.

Wish me luck!!!

What time of day do you inject?

That sounds sensible. I inject in the morning on Fridays but I don't think it makes a big difference as side effects seem fairly inconsistent as to when they kick in. For me it was the following morning.

I made roast dinner yesterday and ate two big portions of veggies, braised red cabbage, butter fried green cabbage, courgette, broccoli and peas. I think the brassicas might have been a bit too much as i've got painful trapped air again today. Also gained half a pound over night probably just from the quantity i ate yesterday. three meals and dinner was two helpings so not surprised. The upside is that i don't feel like eating when i feel like this!

QuiltedHippo · 07/05/2024 09:30

Week 4 weight in, 2lbs off. Was suprised as bit of an indulgent bank holiday and period started yesterday (bang on time, I know its affected some people)

Start: 14st 4.8lbs
Now: 13st 6.8lbs
Loss: 12lbs

I did my bonus 2.5mg shot last night using the hard twist method, there was enough for 1 click under the full dose so not ideal as will be moving up next time.

Think I'm going to do 3mg, 4mg, 5mg x 3 from the next pen if I can and side effects ok. I've been fine on 2.5mg and have a job where I do have to eat so will struggle if e.g I get a bad stomach after something fatty.

My issue is snacking and mounjaro has been great for that

Carelesswispalover · 07/05/2024 10:30

Can I ask a question, I'm due to go on holiday to Spain in July, am I able to pack the pen and needles in my hold suitcase?
Or do I need something from my drv(even though it hasn't been prescribed by my GP).

livingwithpmdd · 07/05/2024 11:16

I went away last week and took mine in my carry on but put the needle bits in my hold luggage. The hold gets too cold and the liquid can freeze if it goes in there. No issues at security both ways as it fits in the clear bag and is under the 100ml limit. I did take my box with the prescription on it just in case.

Will last out of the fridge up to 30 degrees (says this on my box) I did pop it in a fridge when I got there just incase it got hotter than 30, which it didn't.

I really don't think it would freeE! Does any other liquid in your suitcase freeze?

I travel and put a suitcase on the hold most weeks (I'm crew) and nothing ever ever freezes!!!

QuiltedHippo · 07/05/2024 11:40

I wouldn't risk it, none of my liquids cost £150 a month 😆 cases can get lost, be left in the sun - which I think is more risky than cold.
I travel with an epipen which never gets questioned, I flag it before going through security and do have a travel letter but they never ask for it. I'd just stick it with that in the box with the prescription label if I was flying.

livingwithpmdd · 07/05/2024 13:45

@ihatecoffee someone on the other thread told me this info as their partner has flown with insulin for years. I have actually opened a case after flying long-haul and all its contents were really cold. I'm not sure it would freeze but I also wouldn't risk it as @QuiltedHippo says.

CTRight · 07/05/2024 13:57

Week 2 weigh in and 1 stone down. I'm sticking to under 1200 calories each day, walking 5 miles each day and generally just making the healthier choices. This drug has been a game changer.

livingwithpmdd · 07/05/2024 13:59

@ihatecoffee just thought I'd check guidance on diabetes websites as I don't want to be spreading misinformation. It says not to put insulin in the hold as the temp can drop below freezing. I've attached a screenshot for anyone interested

Any other newbies had negative comments from friends/family? A partner of my friend gave me a bit of grief and said I'm stupid injecting myself with chemicals blah blah blah -just be happy with yourself and all that. Oh ok :/

I feel like if i was a smoker and struggled to quit for years but there was a wonderful injection that would turn me off smoking everyone would be supportive. But because it's just food I'm made to feel like a weak willed failure.

Anyway, I'm down 8 lb's in two weeks so I'm buzzing.

Carelesswispalover · 07/05/2024 15:46

Thanks for the travel advice everyone, good to know I don't need anything from the GP to carry needles in the hold, I'll maybe put the pen in my carry-on bag just to be safe.
tinpeach I worry about this too, I worry about telling anyone. My sister and husband are supportive but I know everyone else will probably judge, heck a year ago I'd probably judge too, but I'm at the end of my rope trying to shift this weight, I lost a stone last year, worked so hard to do it and literally put it all back on at Christmas.

I can't keep going on like that, my whole body hurts too from carrying an extra person around so I'm hoping when I shift some pounds I'll have a bit more energy to get out and walk more

Carelesswispalover · 07/05/2024 15:49

I'm really worried about diarrhea, I have a real phobia about getting caught short at work as I generally never do a no.2 there (sorry TMI), is this something that everyone experiences??
Constipation is something I'm an expert at handling, I'd have that over diarrhea any day. Also, farting in public, I just can't do it!!!

I know this all sounds a bit infantile but it's probably my top worry about starting the medication.

I have a significant issue with panic attacks linked to toilet needs (to the point i was agoraphobic for a while) and this has been fine for me. Lots of constipation and no D!

sweetpickle2 · 07/05/2024 17:14
