Expecting my first pen hopefully tomorrow.

Anyone else just starting out?

I did the first injection of Mounjaro on Wednesday morning.
I felt odd yesterday - empty but not hungry so I didn't eat much.
Half a ham sandwich for lunch and a small amount of chicken and rice for tea. Then at about 10pm I was very hungry so had a bowl of cereal but didn't want to finish it. So definitely ate less.
Today I didn't want breakfast but am now a bit hungry. There's cakes in the office but I've resisted without too much effort!
I'm not sure if this is down to the Mounjaro or if it's just because I desperately want it to work!

Basically same as me! Anything I ate just either came back up or back out. Awful, I am a week now on the other side of that dose and I am hoping it’s out of my system soon!

My first dose was Monday morning, I was still cramping last night with diarrhoea even though I had only eaten 5 dry crackers, a banana and a stick of celery throughout the day. Started to think I had pancreatitis, feel slightly better today, but yesterday I was googling to see if there is an antidote - nope 😂

Sorry to hear you’ve had a similar rough time on it too! And hopefully we’re on the other side of it now.

On the plus side I’ve lost 4lb in 4 days.

MrsSchmoo · 26/04/2024 12:44

I had my first injection of mounjaro at 4pm yesterday - felt fine, it's now midday and i'm feeling a bit lightheaded, drinking plenty of fluids but not feeling really like eating?! I've eaten a red grapefruit (is that how you spell it?).

Cerialkiller · 26/04/2024 13:23

If there is anyone who plans on starting and wants 25% off their first order at Juniper then I get a discount on my next order for referring a friend too! My first order was £209 so reduced down to £156.75 with the discount.

CODE IS FRIEND25.

dm me first as you may need my details.
Maybe if I get enough people I can afford that 4th month!

SnapCackleFlop · 26/04/2024 14:22

I took my first dose of Mounjaro today and so far so good I think. I was very worried about injecting myself but the needles were so fine (as others have said), I injected into my thigh and found it needed almost no pressure at all as gravity did it for me. It was much easier and less painful than I thought it would be.

Could someone help me with a question please? Do you have to do the 'priming' thing every time you inject or is it just before the first dose from a new pen. 🙂

Cerialkiller · 26/04/2024 15:08

Is anyone else just not interested in eating at all? Injected first jab of MJ this morning. I'm sat here thinking about making myself lunch because its that time of day. I just can't bring myself to do it. My belly feels warm and full, not hungry particularly. I suppose i could bring myself to eat but the thought of it isn't very attractive so i'm just not bothering with it. I haven't had breakfast or lunch, I'm out at an evening class tonight so probably won't have dinner either. tempting to just ride this until my appetite come back.

I'm fairly sure it's only the first time you use a new pen. On my instructions (Wegovy) I'm sure it said to skip that step after the first time. Please do check, though!

StaySpicy · 26/04/2024 15:11

Mine has definitely worn off as I'm feeling more hungry (day 6). Injecting again tomorrow, might try my stomach this time!

GoingDownDown · 26/04/2024 15:56

I prefer daily weighing. I’ve found it makes me more immune to worrying about the number, because I’m used to it going up and down!

On week 2 of 2.5 MJ here. No noticeable effects. Considering going up to 5 early (taking two injections of the 2.5) as I’m tolerating the lower dose fine (I was NOT ok on wegovy at this stage!)

Cerialkiller · 26/04/2024 11:58

Just did my first jab of MJ this morning at 9ish. Dunno if its psychosomatic/placebo but already feeling meh about eating even though i cooked my favourite food last night (creamy chicken and bacon bake) and the left overs are in the fridge unmolested. Just don't feel motivated to heat them up. I'm also a bit concerned about the side effects of eating something so fatty.

I usually keto and have read that combining that with MJ is a way to make it more effective so plan to continue that as i'm used to it. My usually issue is that i lose an initial 7-10lb then get overwhelmed by cravings, fall off the wagon then struggle to get back on. Usually feel physically awful, bloated and struggling to sleep which then motivated me to start again, repeat cycle. I'm hoping that i can stop that cycle with MJ. Only planning to do it for 3 months as that's all I can probably afford.

One question. Has anyone combined with fasting? I usually intermittant fast and have done 24-36hour water fasts before but i don't know if that would have a negative effect on MJ and blood sugar would fall too much. Should i be making myself eat if i'm not fussed?

Yes you definitely should. You don’t want to have a hypo!

Dvh149 · 26/04/2024 16:31

Hi Everyone, Just finished my 1st week and have lost just over 5 lbs! 🙂 I haven't been counting calories but have made healthy choices and probably eaten half or less of what I usually would. I'm amazed that it actually works! I have had no side effects apart from a dry mouth.

I noticed the hunger returning the day before my next injection was due, but took it last night and already feel like the hunger has gone again! Its really motivating to hear that it's working well for other people as well.

I wouldn't go up just after two weeks, it builds in your system and some of is get different side effects each week. Also, those people in hospital that you see on social media from taking MJ/Oz etc are there mostly because they zoom up the doses too quickly.

sweetpickle2 · 26/04/2024 17:15

Have had pretty severe acid reflex and nausea today, which is a shame as was hoping I'd swerved side effects. Fingers crossed it doesnt last

Literally just did my 2nd injection of 2.5mg tonight and I’m worried it’s not all gone in. I did it into my thigh, and when I looked down afterwards my skin looked a bit wet.

anyone else had that?

Humptydumpty85 · 26/04/2024 21:01

I took my first dose on Wednesday evening and no nasty side effects as yet. Appetite has been reduced - I don't feel really full, just like I can't really be bothered to eat (basically unheard of for me unless I'm ill!)

I would caution against skipping meals- you need to force yourself to eat something. Hopefully it’ll wear off and you’ll feel like you want to eat soon.

Do you know what your TDEE (calorie allowance) is? You can safely eat 500 calories less than your maintenance TDEE (there are calculators to work it out).

Jennywren2000 · 26/04/2024 21:03

Have you found that the side effects and appetite suppressant effects increase with each dose?

I have just done dose 2, on 0.25 wegovy, and feel much more sick than I did after the first dose but also really not at all hungry. I have been travelling all day today and would usually scoff so much food but have had to force myself to eat.

It’s amazing!

I don't believe in calories 😅😅 keto all the way. I've had a babybel and some yoghurt but tbh I'm in bed now and feel like I've eaten 3 square meals today when I've had almost nothing, strangely physically satisfied. The normal hollow feeling is missing. I will keep an eye on it and try to eat more tomorrow. No negative symptoms at all other then a mild headache for a couple of hours after the jab. Also slightly burpy.

You don’t believe in the laws of physics?! 🤨

JemimaTiggywinkles · 26/04/2024 23:09

Calories are physics but bodies are biology. How our bodies react to and use particular food items can vary wildly from person to person. Calories are a rough guide that works for lots of people. But counting them simply won't work for everyone.

lastapache · 26/04/2024 23:14

Well something is definitely having an effect. I’m only on Day 2 of week 1, and was just thinking that I was feeling no difference at all except for maybe a slightly fuller feeling. There was still food noise and sugar cravings. I forgoed my usual pizza this evening and got chicken strips which I had with salad. I’ve been able to eat my usual portions today so I thought, while I sat down to the telly, well I’ll have a bit of ice cream. I had a small bowl, and not five minutes later I got a wave of nausea. I had to get up and pace the room a bit for it to settle, which it nearly has now. Not great that I’m going to be horizontal for the next 8 hours though. I’m kicking myself because the doctor specifically said don’t eat after 7 if you to avoid feeling sick yet here I am.

So that’s a clear indication that my digestion has slowed. It’ll have to be a light breakfast tomorrow.

Not sure if you’re taking WeGovy or Mounjaro, but it might be the ice cream causing the nausea…. It states in the Mounjaro literature to avoid fatty foods and eat a bland lower calorie diet.

Saying that, nausea is a common side effect of these weight loss medications- seems to be much more fleeting for MJ compared to WG based on the posts here.

yorkypuds · 27/04/2024 04:28

I did first dose of Mounjaro last night.
I was a bit scared of injecting myself but I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the needle slipped in and I could barely feel it all.
I've felt a bit itchy (but perimenopause means I'm itchy anyway) but I am so thirsty! Starting on water early this morning!
Is it right that the pen doesn't need to be kept in the fridge now?
