Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

So after yesterdays high calorie day (2400) I've pooped this morning and am 0.5lbs down from yesterdays weigh in.

Lol that's funny! That's happened to me before where I think I've eaten loads and ate some chocolate so was expecting a big gain the next day, then actually I've been down in weight 🤣 MJ works in mysterious ways!

OP posts:

Morning all!

Hope you’re ok @FlappyFish and thank you for being honest and sharing how you feel. We’ve all been there at some time or another. You’ve got this 💐

Some great losses this week especially @Keepthepeace82 with a great 4th week loss. What food plan did you follow?

I’m injecting third dose tonight so weighing in this morning.

SW: 16st 11.2lb
Week One loss: 7.4lb
Week Two loss: 3.2lb
CW: 16st 0.6lb

Total loss: 10.6lb

Really pleased with that. Still eager to see the next stone bracket though! It waved at me on the scales this morning but sadly, the number settled here instead. Hopefully not too much longer to wait!

Satisfying graph attached 🙂

@Rainbowl thank you! And well done on your weightloss too. Not sure if anyone ever did it or heard of it but there was a weightloss plan called SureSlim. It worked amazingly for me but I kept pushing the boundaries and the weight came back on. Anyway, it required a lot of will power and I never found the will power to do it again for longer than 2 weeks. I was on it for about 4 months the 1st time. It was 3 non- processed weighed meals a day, 2 snacks and leaving 5 hours between each meal.

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 11/04/2024 09:24

Well done @Rainbowl and @Keepthepeace82 !

Welcome @MarilynBoo - how are you feeling after your first shot? I haven't binged once on these drugs - hope your side effects are few.

I've seen some people on tiktok use the family chemist - I looked into them and ultimately decided to stick with Asda. I like that I can email a doctor or pharmacist anytime I like and I'd prefer to keep my history with one provider. Also I think the family chemist don't include needles? I might have remembered that wrong. I know I'm missing out on ££ savings, but I think I would feel anxious by changing providers.

Re: wegovy Vs mounjaro.
I have been trying to find out as much as possible about the differences - apparently with mounjaro, there is much less glp1 in it than in wegovy/ozempic. It's the glp1 that slows the food digestion and makes you feel fuller, and with this comes the more difficult side effects.
As mounjaro has GIP with a lower dose of glp1, it helps glp1 work more efficiently with less of it, meaning less side effects. Also GIP works on the brain to reduce food noise/cravings etc. Wegovy has no GIP.

That's the jist of what I understand anyway. (Not to mention the effects both drugs have on blood sugar etc)

That's how I understood it as well @JanetSnakeholeMacklin 😊

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 11/04/2024 09:27

Did anyone ever do slimpod? I was doing that for a couple of months before I started this. Despite eating much better and giving up binging 95% of the time, I just gained and lost the same 3lbs.

MelissaLouRocks · 11/04/2024 09:27

Welcome @MarilynBoo, best of tuck with your journey!

Rainbowl · 11/04/2024 09:32

I quite liked Slimpod @JanetSnakeholeMacklin and I think it could have worked well for me if I wasn’t in such a bad place and didn’t have so much to lose. The pod did seem to have an effect on me but it wasn’t enough. The Facebook group was a bit nuts though.

I actually hadn’t heard of Sureslim @Keepthepeace82 but it sounds great!

Rainbowl · 11/04/2024 09:34

Actually the main benefit I got from Slimpod was discovery of the Jennifer Aniston salad 😂 it’s lovely!

QuiltedHippo · 11/04/2024 09:36

@MarilynBoo you're my starting buddy! First jab last night too. I'm feeling normal so far! How about you?

I've had IVF so got DH to jab me as he's a pro from that, all went well. Was a bit nervous to tell him as he's super disciplined but was fine.

Starting weight
14st 4.75lb - BMI 31.9

pinktransit · 11/04/2024 09:39

Weigh this morning, and no loss :(

Well, a tiny loss - I was 12.44 last week and 12.42 this week.

I'm disappointed, although I did have an unofficial weigh on Sunday, and was 1lb down. I might add some senna to my daily multi-vit, vitD and collagen pills, as lack of movement in that direction may be an issue this week.

I think I might go for a daily weigh in for a bit to see what the pattern is.
Third dose taken this morning.

SW - 12.66
CW - 12.42
GW - somewhere over the horizon a very long way away.

BlackFriYay · 11/04/2024 09:41

Thanks for explaining, Obsidian. That makes sense. I do want to save money where possible.

So I'm a tiktok user and I follow a couple of women who are sharing their mounjaro journals and as such the algorithm is bringing up all manner of weight loss videos including the one I'm linking below. It's quite worrying, especially the comments. It's about semaglutide though.. and she took too much.

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeukAEFq/

There's a guy commenting thanking her for spreading awareness, but get this, he says he lied to superdrug claiming he was 14 stone and not 12, then when he got the medication he went straight in with 3mg rather than the 0.6 that you're supposed to start with and surprise surprise.. he got ill.

That's just one many.

The nurse in the background of the video can be heard saying that they're getting people at the hospital on a daily basis because of this and she thinks it'll be banned soon.

Why are there so many fucking idiots around? These injections will get an unfairly bad wrap because people don't want to follow the instructions.

Moanranger · 11/04/2024 09:44

Maintenance Yeah, that’s the bugbear, but researchers & medics are fully aware of this as an issue, so I imagine it will be addressed at some point. Like most of us, I am sure you have all done lots of reading on the psychological & behavioural side of weight management. A couple of things that seem to help: exercise, and food tracking. Regular weighing, so that as soon as you start creeping up, you jump on it. Now is the time to establish good habits while there is little or no food noise. I am planning to taper off, maybe over three months? I will see how that works. 3rd jab at 2.5 tomorrow, so far, so good, just under 2 stone to go.

BlackFriYay · 11/04/2024 09:45

To add to my last post.. I'm still reading through the comments on that video but people are saying she was buying unlicensed drugs and not legitimate semaglutide from a pharmacy.

I despair at these people.

wizzywig · 11/04/2024 09:52

Wow op your mounjaro thread has gone crazy! I've started week 2 of 5mg. Lost 1.7kg this week. It's amazing! But I really need to eat much earlier in the evening. I'm up at night with heartburn

Investinmyself · 11/04/2024 10:02

Good luck @MarilynBoo
I’m still feeling well a couple of days after my 5mg.
I have found the protein ready meals quite handy for a quick evening meal, not too big a portion. Gym kitchen had some in Tesco and Aldi do a couple (fresh ready meal section)

RadFs · 11/04/2024 10:13

Hi @ObsidianTree i started yesterday evening. I’m just under 16 stone. Hopefully I can get to 12 stone and keep it that way. So far today I’ve had the burps nothing too bad but not pleasant either having the gassy feeling in my chest. What do people
take magnesium for? Is there an iPhone app that I can use to monitor my weight? Thanks

Thebaldprimadonna · 11/04/2024 10:17

NSV for me today. My slippers are so big for me that they're unwearable!!! Just shows that the weight comes off everywhere 😊

They're really nice wool mules from Germany, so I am hoping that if I wash them that they'll shrink to my new foot width 🙏

Nooneknowsbutme · 11/04/2024 10:24

Holy crap.
Day 4 & the sulphur burbs have hit.
RANK!!!

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 11/04/2024 10:26

Ooh I just measured my waist and there's 2 inches off it this week! I measured a few times just to make sure!

MelissaLouRocks · 11/04/2024 10:29

@RadFs the magnesium helps both sleep and constipation, take before bed.

MelissaLouRocks · 11/04/2024 10:30

That's amazing @JanetSnakeholeMacklin, I'm so jealous!

FlappyFish · 11/04/2024 10:33

@RadFs i just use my fitness pal on the free bit.

RagzRebooted · 11/04/2024 10:34

CiderJabs · 11/04/2024 08:12

@FlappyFish I think we can all relate to the headfuck. My dp is also on MJ and if he has a gain I'm all for saying it's water / salt / normal fluctuation etc but when it's me I don't believe any of that and just feel crap.

I'm glad I don't have access to scales here. I won't weigh myself until next Tuesday now.

When I took my extra dose on Tuesday, I ended up having to use 2 needles as the first go took the plunger to the bottom but there was still liquid left so I did it again for the last bit. So now I'm wondering how much I took. I feel very queasy but am managing to eat, and after several days of constipation, I now have the runs!

That's why I'm going to use an insulin syringe to get the last bit out, I want to know how much I'm taking! Some people have got nearly 1ml out, which would be a lot more than the usual 2.5mg.

FlappyFish · 11/04/2024 10:34

On graphs. This is two months from MFP. I forgot I was 14.3 and down to 14.1 the day I started MJ. This does help put it in context doesn’t it?

Continuing Mounjaro...part 4
User2460132 · 11/04/2024 10:40

Thank you for the thread @ObsidianTree

I have a lot of weight to lose that I’ve built up over the years. About 8 stone all in. I started well without any help but I was starting to fall off the wagon so started on Mounjaro 6 weeks ago.

so far so good. The constant food cravings have lessened substantially. I have had the constipation others reported and the dry mouth but otherwise all good.

I have continued tracking calories on my fitness tracker and doing at least 1 hours walk a day. I’ve been losing about 2lb a week fairly steadily.

SW: 252lbs (18 stone)
target weight: 140lbs (10 stone)

current weight: 204lbs. So I’m almost half way there
