Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@Rainbowl I love how you say "only 10%" 😂😂- that's lots and you should be proud!

Part of the ring squad then eh? Mine is to buy a ring a size or two down from where I am now!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 09/04/2024 16:36

I've walked 700kcal off today. I don't think I'll eat 700kcal today, am a bit nauseous and bilious on my 3rd 5mg dose.

Rennies are working.
I'm 6lb off of losing 10% of my weight. That's quite amazing.

My maths was wrong anyway 😂 more like 4%…

Rings are a lovely goal aren’t they? Fingers are not exactly an area of the body people usually target for weight loss but it’s so meaningful to lose weight there ☺️

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 09/04/2024 16:41

@Rainbowl 10% is amazing at this stage (I'm a few weeks in front of you).

As for the rings - I can't even get mine on 🫣. I got engaged 4yrs ago and haven't worn the ring for at least 3 of those. I did say to my DP last night that maybe we should get married as soon as I get lose the weight as it probably won't be long before I start putting it all back on 😄

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 09/04/2024 16:43

@Rainbowl just seen your update 😄. I use my fitness pal and it tells you the % weight loss. I really enjoy seeing it go up every couple of days.

CiderJabs · 09/04/2024 16:43

@PissedOffNeighbour22 yes!!! Let's be wedding buddies 🥰

Those who are having bad symptoms and nausea, did you inject in your stomach?

I did my 1st shot last Wednesday and injected into my thigh. I didn’t have any side effects at all.

No, my worst symptoms followed the first jab, which was in my right thigh. It’s worth tracking injection site and side effects but your 1st jab may give you the worst side effects wherever it goes.

I’d do it Friday.

Rainbowl · 09/04/2024 16:54

I want to lose 6st 11lb and I’m 10% of the way there, that’s what I was getting confused with @CiderJabs @PissedOffNeighbour22 😂

I think whenever anyone achieves a ring goal we need to see a (non identifying) pic of said ring(s) to celebrate! I’ll definitely post mine when I get them back on ☺️

Investinmyself · 09/04/2024 16:58

Rings are a great goal. My hands looked totally different when I lost weight before.
For anyone worrying about injecting watch the video posted a few pages back. The actual needle is tiny.

RagzRebooted · 09/04/2024 17:03

@Letsgoogogo I'd do it Friday evening, that way you sleep through the first 8 hours or so and avoid thinking constantly about whether you're feeling any side effects! Then the weekend to adjust to it.

Re telling people, I've told DH and quite a few colleagues. I work in healthcare and we have patients on GLP1s, so everyone knows what it is once I explain it, even if they haven't heard of Terzepitide yet. I'll probably have a few converts by the end of the month! One of our GPs was very keen, didn't realise it was so easy to get privately.

Did dose number 4 last night, total loss so far is 4.4kg/9.7lbs. Not bad for 3 weeks. I've probably averaged about 1400 cal a day (having at least 1 proper meal, usually 2). I'm starting from a BMI of 35, so a long way to go before I'm even overweight.

guestusername · 09/04/2024 17:07

@Letsgoogogo i did mine on Friday afternoon and will carry on with Fridays as I’ve got the weekend to shift of any effects.

I was at work today and my skin was sore enough for me to have to go out for ibuprofen. I managed to get through the day quite well food wise but I’ve not drunk enough. I’m off to the gym shortly and will drink loads during and after so that should make up for it. 2.5 lbs off as of this morning 😀

lurkylurk · 09/04/2024 17:19

I applied to MedExpress this morning as want to move there from Voy, the form said it would take 2-3 days to get approved due to high demand but I sent over proof of previous prescription before they even asked as I knew they'd need it to order the 5mg and just got a dispatch notice that it's already been dispatched! That's pretty speedy!

Marmies64 · 09/04/2024 17:27

Woweee... I posted this morning, went to work, checked just now and have 4 pages of posts to catch up on!

Thanks @ObsidianTree ObsidianTree - good to know what others are doing re priming!

And thank you @Stickthatupyourdojo - I thought the leftover medication would be to account for priming!

Nice to see some fellow lurkers announcing their arrival today :)

@VoyOySaveloy - when I took my first dose, I definitely felt like I was about to have a panic attack all that evening and had an elevated heart rate. I think I got in my head about it all as I've never injected medication before, but interesting to hear heart palpitations are a side effect of this. I hope it's reassuring to know that for my second jab, I had none of these side effects. I was a lot calmer about everything which probably helped, as I knew what to expect. I hope you start feeling better soon!

2Tired4Anything · 09/04/2024 17:36

Really love reading everyones experiences on here.

@Letsgoogogo dont worry, your not overthinking... I would take on friday afternoon, mounjaro can be unpredictable. at first for some reason I was fine but after moving up a dose now if I have a big meal I definitely start feeling sick. Probably easier to snack and top-up with protein shakes.

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 09/04/2024 17:37

Hey. It's so good how these threads are moving, and welcome to all the newbies! Although I still feel like a newbie as I'm only in my second week.

I went into school the past two days, to work with some of my exam students. I brought some biscuits for them and not once was I tempted to even have any! Also, earlier today I bought a protein chicken wrap thing from m&s and I had about 2-3 bites of it left and I just stopped. Like I suddenly didn't want it. It's so weird - I'm still not used to this!

Leaving food is the weirdest thing! I've never ever been able to do it before and would eat until stuffed - tbh I never really had full signals, I've spent years ignoring them!
Today I've had a protein yogurt, then some chicken and cheese for lunch. I have a hungry sensation but I'm not reaching for food, I know I can wait for my evening meal. I still can't quite believe the magic!

Can I join this one? That's definitely a NSV for me - my engagement and wedding bands are so unique and beautiful and I so want to wear them again without feeling like I'll lose my finger

Absolutely! Such a lovely goal

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 09/04/2024 17:55

Re the wedding rings goal. My wedding anniversary is next month, so my first mini goal is for them to fit by my anniversary.

I am in. I have a ring that I bought 20 years ago that I love, but I haven't worn it for at least 10 :-(

ObsidianTree · 09/04/2024 18:24

I'll join in on the ring fitting goal! I am currently wearing my rings that I can't get off! I want to still wear them, but worried about ever having to have to take them off! So want so slim down enough to be able to take them off and fit them back on!

OP posts:
Pigriver · 09/04/2024 18:25

It's my 10th anniversary in the summer and I'd like to get my rings on by then. They were made bigger a few years ago but I've still not been able to wear them since last summer.

I agree on leaving food. I would always be told of for wasting food growing up (I was very fussy) and since being an adult only cooked what I liked for years which wasn't healthy. My diet is much improved but I still eat everything and eat quickly (fall out from having 2 babies that cried though every meal). I now find my self just stopping and feel nothing when I scrape the leftovers in the bin.

pinktransit · 09/04/2024 19:06

I'll join in on the ring thing! I have a hugely sentimental ring that I bought almost 9 years ago, but haven't been able to wear comfortably for the past couple of years. Would love to be able to wear it again.

On day 6 of week 2 - I'm hungry today. It was the same for days 6 and 7 last week, and I'm ok with that. It almost feels like an opportunity to practice making good choices, while knowing that it's only for 2 days. My willpower can last for that long 😀.

I have an Aldi high protein ready meal for this evening if I'm feeling lazy. Or I could airfry some chicken mini breast fillets with onion and peppers, paprika and thyme in a tortilla wrap. That's pretty much my go-to dinner at the moment. I did have a snack earlier, which I'm trying not to do. But it was healthy, and I stopped at one, rather than the three or four that would have happened before MJ.
