Continuing Mounjaro...part 4

Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@ObsidianTree
There was a Wegovy thread I was following as well as this one at first when I was just checking it all out so I still get notifications from that one and they all seem to be suffering so much, with less of a result generally too, that I was tempted to post on there today asking why they don't just all switch to Mounjaro. It's not faultless but certainly better!

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/04/2024 13:04

Are there any medexpress codes around st the moment?

Yes I was following it too. I even did a few weeks on wegovy before deciding to move to MJ as I read it was better!

Yes their side effects seem so much worse than MJ for sure! I feel like a lot might have moved over to MJ. They started before us but their thread seems pretty slow now compared to ours and we are a whole thread ahead of them now!

I think the ones that are staying on it have done well and lost well so far so are sticking with it. From reading FB it looks like people are moving across when they get to top dose with not much effects on losses. But does seem like a lot that moved over are taking longer to start losing on Mounjaro.

I think I'll start keeping a list of working codes

If anyone else has MedExpress codes please add :)

@Rainbowl glad it's going so well for you. I was the same bmi as you and mine came off at a similar rate I think.

I was also in a mess with my eating like you, so there's no surprise the weight is coming off. I hit a plateau when I moved to 5mg but then it started coming off again.

I don't feel like I'm denying myself anything. What worries me a little is that before the jab I could just eat and eat and not feel full. The jab hasn't changed that and I eat a large evening meal but could still easily eat another portion without feeling full. The only difference is that I just can't be bothered to. I just can't be arsed to go and get more food or I just forget I was going to. It's weird.

I've lost 13% of my body weight so far and I'm really pleased with that.

CiderJabs · 09/04/2024 13:20

@PissedOffNeighbour22 and @Rainbowl I'm so pleased for both of you. I wouldn't worry too much about losing too fast as you've just started and as you said, you have lots to lose. So bask in the glory and enjoy.

What's your next mini goals? Share and we shall celebrate them together 😘

Pigriver · 09/04/2024 13:28

Hi all, my first post on the new thread. It has moved so fast while I was away braving the storms in a camper van 🙈
We ate out twice, the first was a ridiculously huge position of chicken salad shawarma. I ate about 1/8 of the chicken and salad and a bite of wrap. To be fair it wasn't that nice but I barely ate any. The next day I learned from my mistake and ordered a small fish and chips. I ate the fish and peas and about 1/4 of the chips. A glass of wine lasted over an hour!
Glad to be home and more in control, back to my morning protein/yoghurt/fruit smoothies that really fill me up and keep me regular (I add flax and chia).
My loss stalled during my bonus dose of 2.5mg week but is moving once again. Halfway through my first week of 5mg and back to good appetite suppression.
I'm still part of the juniper group despite no longer using them and the amount of people seemingly clueless about the drug is a bit worrying. All of the info is out there and their app is actually really informative but it looks like no one reads it!
I'm currently the lightest I've been in 5 years (when I was 6 months pregnant 🙄).

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 09/04/2024 13:29

@ObsidianTree 😂 I did buy shares in them! Well, I say shares, I bought a portion of one share, as they were £600 per share!

DDisnotnormal · 09/04/2024 13:39

ObsidianTree · 09/04/2024 12:35

That's interesting. In the US they really are charged so much per month for it. So I'm happy with the prices we pay compared to the US anyway. I think I read somewhere that it costs them £5 to make for a months supply! So it is terrible really how much they charge!

I wonder if other pharmaceutical companies will start making their own versions with the same ingredients! Then that will really bring the price down! As long as Eli lilly can't patient it!

It's a shame it can't be prescribed on the nhs then if a months supply is as little as that...that's big pharma for you though!!!

Now I've vented I'll actually introduce myself!!😅I've been lurking on the threads for just over 2 weeks. Thank you for all the incredible tips and advice. I finally decided sod it and injected my first 2.5 dose last Wednesday.

Up to now I've had manageable side effects, slight nausea after eating and headaches. I'm feeling more positive than i have in quite a while so I'm hoping this continues. I have inattentive adhd so binge eating was my go to way of getting a dopamine hit. I was only diagnosed last year so for years and years i just thought I binged because i was useless. It was a revelation to discover why I use food the way I do but it still didn't make me stop ( I was unable to continue on adhd medication because of high blood pressure).

I've been weighing myself every other day and up to now I'm just over 7lbs down. I'll weigh on Thursday for my official 1st week loss so fingers crossed for a few more pounds!!!x

@CiderJabs my next goal is the weight I pretend I am on my life insurance plan 🫣. I have around 11lb to lose to hit 13st.

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGemcFUbd/

Came across this on tiktok which might be reassuring to those waiting to go up to 7.5.

Very interesting, looking at this and comparing the loss after 12 weeks on 5mg and 10mg (although maybe the one on 10mg was actually on 7.5 at that point) there is a negligible difference in losses. I've tried to show this in the attached graph but it might be a bit fuzzy!

Hello, new to this thread.

Started yesterday. Any advice for the nausea? How do you cope at work with nausea and diarrhoea?

Next time I will inject into my thigh to see if that helps.

I’m moving up to 5mg tomorrow.
I’ve had virtually no symptoms. Slight nausea day of injection. One need loo urgently when I’d eaten something spicy.
I’m eating quite a repetitive diet so wonder if that helping. Drinking lots of water.
Protein yoghurt & berries breakfast. Homemade soup lunch. Protein and veg with small amount of carbs dinner. Nothing fried or greasy. Virtually no alcohol.

Wonkypictureframe · 09/04/2024 14:38

Eli Lilly is not new on the block! I imagine the shares have been pretty expensive for a long time.

CiderJabs · 09/04/2024 15:11

@PissedOffNeighbour22 wow that's a good goal to have! And 11lbs is not that much really in the scheme of things. Well done and keep going.

Meanwhile over here I've come on really heavily (great) so have been having cramps and feeling crap. Took my last 2.5 jab this morning and am thinking I might take the 5 at the weekend when I'm back.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 09/04/2024 15:15

I've been approved! I'm quite relieved as I'm only just above the threshold so, whilst I qualify, did wonder if they might say no. Just knowing I have applied for it seems to have had some sort of placebo effect as I feel as though I have been more mindful with my eating in the last couple of days ... although that could also be driven by quite how tight my jeans are feeling.
I'm still having a mental dilemma whether I will tell anyone or not. I'm normally quite open so I am inclined to. Also, various friends & colleagues have known that I want to do something about my weight for years and, given weightloss can be see as being a virtue or a "success", I don't want people to perceive me as having will power or being somehow better when I don't or am not. Anyway, that's a decision I don't need to make just yet. First of all, the stuff has to arrive, I have to pluck up the courage to do it (I'm not very good with needles) and also decide whether to wait until after I'm scheduled to give blood (I have to screw my eyes up & hum whilst the needle is being inserted for that!)

HanSB · 09/04/2024 15:16

Soukmyfalafel · 09/04/2024 13:43

I am going to keep my eye out for the next weightloss wonder drug and invest in that producer.

I bought Lilly shares over a year ago and have over 90% return. I purchased more at the beginning of the year with news of U.K. launch. I’m looking at Viking Therapeutics now as they are trialling a weight loss injection to rival Mounjaro!

Nooneknowsbutme · 09/04/2024 15:19

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa
I started yesterday, the needle is tiny, barely a needle at all.
I have not told anyone!!

Didn't want the pressure, questions & judgy comments!

Halleycat · 09/04/2024 15:52

Thanks for the threads, OP and all.

I’ve been reading for a while, wondering about MJ. My BMI is 29, but I’m more overweight/obese than this indicates when it comes to the (arguably more helpful) waist to height ratio, as I’m massively apple shaped. I hope the prescribing pharmacists start taking a slightly more nuanced view than merely BMI when considering maintenance doses and the like, in the future.
I’ve also got high blood pressure of the type that is very resistant to control with medication, so on that basis I got a MJ prescription easily, and I started Saturday. Lots of side effects so I’m regretting injecting in my stomach and will move to thigh.
DH is a medic but hates doctoring his family so I didn’t expect him to state an opinion, but actually he went away and read about it and then said it was a good idea. He wanted me to check with GP (which I haven’t done yet as I can’t get a blasted appointment until 7 weeks time!) and also really doesn’t want me getting out the 5th dose. So I’ll probably just use it as directed.

Rainbowl · 09/04/2024 16:14

Thank you @ObsidianTree and for your initial words of encouragement that helped me start in the first place!

Thanks @PissedOffNeighbour22 I’m feeling similar I think. I’ve felt quite full physically a few times but I think most of the time it’s more my brain saying “you’ve had enough” or “I don’t feel like eating any more of this”. Then I avoid the uncomfortable full feeling which is nice. 13% of your body weight is amazing, well done! I’m on 10% so far so not too far behind 🙂

Thank you @CiderJabs my next mini goal is to get my rings back on comfortably. I tried my wedding ring on yesterday and I could squeeze it on, first time in over a year 🙂 but need to lose a few more pounds before I’ll get all three on comfortably.

Nice to see you here @DDisnotnormal and glad to hear you’re getting on well 🙂

Big welcome to all the newbies. Our numbers are growing super fast now!
