I really fancied some mini eggs today so my DH brought some home. I ate a few and thought "that was really nice" then stopped. They are sat there still in an open bag and I'm happy for them to stay there until someone else eats them.

I've had a packet of peanut M&M's in my cupboard for a while (first small victory). I hadn't eaten all day at work so made myself a filled ciabatta which felt quite indulgent and I opened the bag, had a handful then put the rest back in the cupboard. Unheard of for me!

ObsidianTree · 24/03/2024 21:46

I agree. I sometimes feel like something sweet, but I can now eat just one piece of choc and be satisfied.

I bought some cream eggs for Easter yesterday. I haven't thought about them since. This time last year I would have eaten at least 3 by now! This time I probably won't touch them until Easter Sunday!

@oaode amazing result!! Well done.

And to the pp who said about worried how it will change you
Yes I know exactly what you mean. I'm a real foodie (hence my BMI of also 40) and I see food as a real social thing and I'm a little apprehensive because of that.
But I know that I can't continue this way. Every year I'm a stone heavier. I'm 40 soon and I just need to get a grip over it all.

NC543210 · 24/03/2024 23:14

So I've just done my first injection

Is it normal to feel so anxious?

The needle itself shouldn't bother me. I'm a hcpc and use about 50 needles a day.
But in the last 10 minutes since injection.

I've worried about an air embolism from the injection (I know!)
A heart attack from the drugs and my dh is on nights.
And if I'll lose my hair.
Sitting here hyper vigilant wondering if I can feel anything. Haha fml.

Haha
I started on Wednesday night and laid in bed for about an hour waiting for all the side effects I'd read about.
I've not really had any, try not to worry.
If anything crops up there's plenty of advice to be found on here.
Good luck 👍

Thank god its not just me. Well I'm hoping wake up like a new person in the morning. Off shopping with my dc and they'll want to stop for food no doubt. So let's see if it kicks in.

Week 1 weigh in

Last Tuesday on my GP surgery's scales I was 13 stone 8.

Today on my own scales I'm 13 stone 2, so a loss of 6lbs.

That being said I'm not convinced it's completely accurate as I was on my period when I was weighed the first time and I know that can skew things.

Namechange25793 · 25/03/2024 07:55

Thanks for the comments about suppliers- it’s helped make up my mind. I just ordered my 5mg from Asda - decided to stick with them as they’re backed by ZAVA.

I don’t think there are any guaranteed options when it comes to choosing a provider but I have decided to stick with the same supplier to secure my prescription at lower BMIs.

Apologies if I have worried anyone with this chat, but it’s an odd situation of needing a continuous supply when you no longer qualify for it clinically due to lower BMI - because the medication has been so effective!!

Question about protein as I'm just now learning the importance of it after years of crap eating.

How much protein are you aiming for per day?

An online calculator says i should be aiming for anything between 51 and 177 grams pd. That seems like quite a wide scope and I'm not sure what to go for.

Hey, I used this website to calculate what I should be aiming for to lose weight. Due to me weighing so much it stated I should eat 160g of protein per day to lose weight but I can't fit that in easily so I aim for 120-130g.

Morning

So I survived the night after my first jab haha.
I definitely think somethings happening though. I feel a little nauseous but for me it's similar to the kind of post night shift queasy feeling I get. Like a jet lag sicky feeling but manageable.

I'm not wanting anything to eat yet but that's not unusual for me as I'm not a breakfast person. I've had a cup of tea and I'm incredibly thirsty. So had water too.
11am is will be the test as that's usually around the time I get hungry.

CiderJabs · 25/03/2024 08:56

@BlackFriYay a rough estimate is 1g of protein for every kilo of your body weight. Do you know how much you weigh in kg?

Stickthatupyourdojo · 25/03/2024 09:12

Morning all. I'm finding that my weight isn't coming off as quickly as I'd like but I reckon it's the booze. Injection no 3 is tomorrow with third official weigh in on Wednesday but I have only lost 4-5 pounds in 13 days and I reckon it's the weekends as I'm still drinking far too much wine. I'm disappointed that it hasn't affected me wanting to drink as food wise I'm comfortable that I'm doing enough.

We're going on holiday on Friday and our friends are on a no booze mission. I've tentatively raised with DH that we follow suit. He's not overweight but is a big drinker, always buying alcohol and offering a drink and I need to take accountability and just say no, or even get rid of it if he still buys it for me. I would be so pleased if we both stop drinking as much.

KeepingUndercover · 25/03/2024 09:16

End of week 2 and I'm another 2kg down, that's 4.5kg in total, I'm really pleased. I feel like I'm on a good balance of feeling hungry at meal times but filling up quickly and not needing/wanting to snack. I've done my week 3 injection so will see how this week goes.

@Stickthatupyourdojo if you cut down on alcohol it will absolutely help. I don't drink much anyway, I got out of the habit when losing weight previously. My DH stopped drinking in the week and instantly lost weight without doing anything else.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 25/03/2024 09:38

Thanks @KeepingUndercover and well done on your losses that's great!

That’s a great weight loss over 2 weeks. Two pounds per week is safe and sustainable. Ideally you don’t want to lose much faster as you can get unwanted side effects eg. Muscle wasting, hair loss, fatigue, rapid ageing. Keep it slow and steady!

I’m a bit concerned about the desire for such rapid weight loss among some posters. It’s not a sprint but a marathon. Don’t want to sound preachy but it’s not really healthy to consistently lose more than 2lbs a week. We need to look after our bodies.

KeepingUndercover · 25/03/2024 09:53

I should have said that your weight loss is good and steady @Stickthatupyourdojo. @Namechange25793 is right, slow is good. I'm aware I've had pretty big losses so far but I am very, very overweight so that tends to happen. I'm expecting it will slow down pretty soon. I'd be very happy with 1-2lbs a week. If I have a bigger loss again this week I think I'll stay on the 2.5 dose.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 25/03/2024 10:01

Thanks both!

Soukmyfalafel · 25/03/2024 10:03

Stickthatupyourdojo

I find things are slowing down for me now. I still have my bottle of wine each week (600 cals) which I tend to drink over the weekend, although I still have a large glass left from this one. I did lose a lot in week one, but so far have lost a couple of pounds this week. I know my calories are in deficit, so think my body is just adjusting. I don't mind the slowing of progress as I don't want Ozempic face! 2lb a week means I meet my target with a bit of wiggle room, so I'm happy with that. I'm just enjoying getting my 5 a day very easily too. It used to be five potatoes a day probably. 😂

I was really encouraged by fast weight loss initially, but I would prefer to use this opportunity to train myself to eat more healthily with reasonable portions, rather than just stick to very low portions that are not sustainable when I come off.

That said, I do plan to go upto 5mg. I don't feel any thinner, despite a loss of 8/9lbs.

Soukmyfalafel · 25/03/2024 10:11

Another thing I have found helpful is the nutracheck app, which I downloaded yesterday. I punch what I am going to eat the next day in the night before. You can also add in exercise. Planning ahead helps me stick to the diet and know where I am with calories. Others use my fitness pal. Its handy as planning was my weakness before and I never knew what I was really eating as I was a picker.

Daisypod · 25/03/2024 10:21

Well I got an email this morning to say my Bolt order has been dispatched so will be here tomorrow! Feeling a mix of excitement and fear 😂

FlappyFish · 25/03/2024 10:33

I think it’s natural to feel nervous and excitement @Daisypod I certainly did. It was the whole can this really work? Will it hurt? What to expect?

I have jab seven this week on Friday. Second dose of 5. I’m not going to move up, not that 7.5 is even in stock. It’s working ok this level so I’m sticking to it.

Has 5mg settled down for you now?

Hi @ObsidianTree yes, it has. I’m still eating pretty much the same thing. The appetite suppression is strong, but I can eat and I’m doing so. I’m just really focussing on nutrients. How are you getting on?

I am doing well. 5mg is working well for me and starting to feel full benefits. So might stay on 5mg for next month
