Husband dislikes my mother of the bride dress choices, am I wrong?

Husband hates the dresses I loved - mob btw! He says the colour is wrong, the shape doesn’t suit. I felt fantastic in them ☹️. Ditching dh isn’t an option. Are they awful or is he being unreasonable?

I do not know how to dress at all so no real advice to give, except stop thinking about what you wore nine stone ago! The first one isn't terrible but I am still sure you can find something much more flattering with such a nice budget to play with.

Mummyoflittledragon · Yesterday 20:53

I would think these shapes would suit you. I think the colours would suit you. However, I appreciate they may be a bit too bright for you, or too bright for the wedding party.

What colours do you like? The navy is too dark on you.

You’ve lost 9 stone! Amazing! Yes show your new figure off!

Biggles27 · Yesterday 20:55

Can I just say I’m crying with laughter at some of the descriptions. I think these dresses and colour are definitely a big fat no. DH is pleased that the internet agrees with him as he was worried he’d upset me

but if they don’t suit, they don’t suit and I’d much rather know than buy a dress and look awful!!!

going shopping in London with dd in September - hopefully we’ll have more luck together. I live 4 hours from her so takes some organising

I do actually really appreciate the honesty 🥰

Losing 9 stone is an amazing achievement and I imagine it’s difficult to know what suits your new, amazing figure.
What colour are your eyes? What colours suit you usually?
if you like blue, as it’s spring you could go for something in a lighter /more vibrant blue?
I personally cannot stand the odd things you get for MOB in bridal stores and don’t like big hats. It’s all very old fashioned to me. Think floatier, brighter, lighter. Your husband is spot on.

Catlover465 · Yesterday 20:56

I don’t like the gloves.

I like the pink one! I’m thinking best avoid blue after the comments on here 😂

Haven’t rtft, just the first page, and it’s probably been mentioned already, but if you like a dress and it doesn’t quite fit, get it altered. Most things benefit from a nip or tuck in the right spot. It vastly increases the range of clothes available to you.

For me it's the pearls and the neck cut that makes it look like a matronly and outdated dress. I'd definitely choose to wear something a bit more modern.

Spaniellover2 · Yesterday 20:59

No - your husband is right. Like others have said, it is too dark for a wedding …

I love that gold/mustard one, @searchforthesun Very sleek and wafty.

It doesn’t fit you properly - you need a better bra and it looks too big on the waist.

seen it’s a spring wedding - totally the wrong colours.

Totally agree. Second one is dreadful. I think you could find something more colourful and more flattering to the point.

MabelAnderson · Yesterday 21:09

This print is so Springy and lovely. Something along these lines also more fresh and youthful.
It can be hard to adjust to a whole new body shape, maybe start by trying on things that skim, like this dress, and then also more fitted things ? There is a Stine Goya shop in London, filled with colour.

@Biggles27

Do you have anyone you can go shopping with?
Your DD?
A personal shopper?

Those dresses are awful. Dark and so unflattering.

It's a joyful Spring wedding- haven't RTWFT-what colour are the bridesmaids wearing?

Oh wow. I’m pleased you like a bit of colour. This cobalt blue is absolutely fine, completely different from the harsh navy. And it will suit your colouring. But if you prefer not, absolutely fine.

Do have anything you buy taken up a smidge if it’s a bit too long.

Shopsrshut23 · Yesterday 21:15

Oh no love. I'm sure you can find something far more flattering and youthful. These are giving off Edwardian funeral vibes.

youngwhippersnapper · Yesterday 21:16

They do you no favours, and you’re not accentuating your lovely figure.

The colour blue is fine for a wedding OP especially the lighter blue dress posted. A navy that is SO dark like the dresses you posted, that comes out as black in photos is not great and looks like funeral attire. Especially for a spring wedding, its very depressing, but a lighter blue would likely suit your colouring and look lovely.

MongoosePerfume · Yesterday 21:20

Op, before you go dress shopping go for a bra fitting - it will make all the difference. I say that as someone who has lost 4stone. It takes some getting used to!

For mother of the bride? A woman in her 60's?

You need to be a tall stick for this dress and print. It's a tree print.

JenRummy · Yesterday 21:21

You have a lovely figure OP but this is not flattering. I’m sure you’ll find wow factor. Take DH with you when looking or for showing possibles to as sounds like he’ll tell you the truth. Enjoy the wedding too when it comes.

Can everyone who is posting here provide an option that they prefer for a city wedding in spring so OP gets some ideas of other options.

What do you think to something like this OP?

Agree, then we get to see fabulous or crazy idea dresses!

Random googling for mob dresses (surprised it didn’t come up with a practical riot style!) throws up this website and a pink version the first dress-love the bow!
