Husband dislikes my mother of the bride dress choices, am I wrong?

Husband hates the dresses I loved - mob btw! He says the colour is wrong, the shape doesn’t suit. I felt fantastic in them ☹️. Ditching dh isn’t an option. Are they awful or is he being unreasonable?

I don't know if this is of any help but I wore a Whistles dress, printed fabric , blue. It fitted apart from a bit of a gape at the front. I wore a white lace cami, chunky sandals. Nice hair from usual hairdresser.
I think I looked Ok and not not like a completely different person!

Team DH. Awful colours. You have a lovely figure get a dress that fits properly.

Gosh, thank you, I’ll bear that in mind. I accept there will be a cost for alterations but I don’t want to be spending a fortune either!!

Are you looking for a "Mother of the Groom /Bride" dress or a beautiful dress? The Liberty suggestion is beautiful and in my eyes is worth spending money on. You'll get lots of wear out of it. The other suggestions are generic (and not nice or interesting) "MOB/G"

These days - just because you are the mother of the bride doesn't mean you have to go for that 'usual' look - it's a bit stuffy in my eyes.

I so agree with this. Same with the old shift dress and bolero jacket.

I would avoid anything MOB like the plague.

OP, how do you feel about midi length rather than maxi?

I think that midi length is more suitable, especially for a wedding in Central London.

I wore black and silver once, the happy couple split up within 6 months.😐
Don't like the 2nd choice at all, it just awful.
Wear what makes YOU feel good OP, doesn't matter that it's a dark colour or what h or randoms on MN think. If you feeb fab then that's good enough.
By the way why you you say you won't leve your h? Is that supposed to be some sort of joke?🤔

First one is nice at the back but not the rest of it, second one, I don’t like at all. Too dark and I’d lose the hat and gloves :-)

Taken this morning! Shorts are navy - but all my shorts are 😂. It’s that or dark blue or black jeans. I have a pair of Nobody’s Child wide leg trousers - in black. My gym leggings are not black however!!! I will post a picture of them

I also have narrow shoulders. And I could see you do too. This is why I chose the 2 dresses up thread. They widen them by adding a wide collar detail. Boat necks are great for doing that. Puff sleeves at the shoulders also work. The necklines you chose do the opposite.

I would try to save any alterations for hem length. For example if a dress is too long in the waist, it will also cost a lot to fix as you have to take the dress to pieces and move the zip. And if you do need the dress hemmed, bear in mind the type of fabric.

The choices I gave you also considered this. The cobalt blue dress is unlikely to need altering. The cerise pink, perhaps, but it will likely be 2 layers and both the outer skirt and lining would be a simple fix, albeit pricier than a straight skirt. I also didn’t choose anything with finely pretty permanent pleats in the skirt. Lovely if they are the right length. But if you want them taken up, you would need to make sure you ask someone competent to do that, otherwise they could really mess the line up.

I am obviously not saying to choose the dresses I posted, just trying to explain the process so you look tip top. Congratulations on your weight loss. You will look fab!

I could just about cope with it (as there is such a thing as high-quality synthetics) if it's a bloody great dress. But women get sucked into this bridal & MoB machine & spend an absolute fortune on dresses that style forgot ... they're being duped!

Not a graphic designer or fashionista but looking at the picture of you in shorts I think you would look great in a dress cut to just above or around knee length and nipped in below you boobs. See my artful edits on your picture

I wore black with vintage gold & silver lace to my best friend's wedding. They're still together 27 years later. He's a bit of a dick & sometimes I wish they weren't ...

It's something I have found I need to consider, now that I am older.

I used to be able to wear very vivid colours in my twenties, but would find them trickier now.

I'm thinking of colours like fuchsia. They seem to drain my face of its colour and make me look tired.

All the Liberty ones that I posted - & someone else posted a darker version later - are pure silk.

Wearing a beautiful tactile fabric as well as it being a beautiful outfit just adds to feeling great & confident, I feel. I have a lot of silk, mohair, cashmere, angora, velvet etc in my wardrobe!

I tend to pick blue! My wardrobe is basically blue and black with a lot of striped t-shirts or plain white

I have no idea what happens when I get dressed for the gym 😂.

I think I need to try other colours on to see what looks ok! I really have no idea 🤷
