Husband dislikes my mother of the bride dress choices, am I wrong?

Husband hates the dresses I loved - mob btw! He says the colour is wrong, the shape doesn’t suit. I felt fantastic in them ☹️. Ditching dh isn’t an option. Are they awful or is he being unreasonable?

I would wait until Spring to go shopping . There will only be the dregs of the summer styles in the shops in September and otherwise just winter stock which of course will mean dark and more formal wear .Good luck OP.

Yes, I’m quite narrow on the shoulder so anything I buy will have to have alterations unfortunately so yes happy to have any dress tsilotef

Book a free styling appointment at a department store and ask them to show you some outfits. Also get a free bra fit and shape wear appointment (whether heavy or light) to give you the best silhouette for an outfit.

You have 6 months at least. I would be glamming myself up and getting in shape for the next 6 months. You have time to find a great outfit.

It’s horrible when you find something you feel lovely in, but someone else doesn’t like it, but at least you haven’t bought them yet (I assume). You have a great figure and I think you could find something much more flattering, especially around your waistline. I agree with others that a lighter colour would perhaps be a better option too, but if you prefer dark, perhaps a softer material, something similar to this?

I wouldn’t go for traditional mother of the bride dresses with their heavy satin fabrics etc…. And don’t go near any outfits, shops or brands that have the word “wedding” in them. They’re invariably twee and awful.

Instead of spending £700 on a dress, I’d book a wardrobe edit and outfit planning session with a stylist. I love Styleupwithabby (see on insta) for example. It’s really not all that expensive and they’ll give you a smart, modern look in which you’ll feel good and look good. And my guess is that you may spend less than £700 overall.

You have a very nice top line. I'm going to suggest something floral, light and floaty in a fit and flare style. More fitted above the waist with a flowy skirt to add more definition at the waist. Nice hair by the way. The hat is nice but maybe in a brighter colour.

That near black navy is too stark a contrast for your colouring. It washes out a fair skinned blonde woman. They're too matronly. You don't look old enough for that type of dress.

i agree with your husband - the shape does nothing for you and the colour is very matronly. Book a personal styling session at somewhere like John Lewis where there should be loads to try. As it’s a spring wedding then definately lighter colours would be better. Does your daughter have a view? Mine was very laid back and just said wear what you like and feel comfortable in providing it’s suitable for black tie. DH and I had great fun looking at some of the suggested MOB sites - biggest laugh was the outfit that had a Tommy Cooper style hat to top it off! Sure with some help you’re going to look fabulous.

I am also narrow on the shoulder. I did pattern cutting, design and sewing at college. A shoulder alteration is a big alteration and when making clothes, I adjust the pattern for my shoulders before I cut the fabric. I would suggest that you buy something that fits on the shoulders.
Congratulations on your weight loss. That is massive. However, is there a chance that you will loose more weight or your body shape may adjust before the wedding.

Wearing navy to your own daughter's wedding gives the impression that you are unhappy about the marriage!

It was just an idea of style and material rather than the actual dress. With the assumed budget OP has, I’m sure she can do better than Chinese tat!!

I would not pick either. Too dark. For a wedding. And too formally long for a day too. The sort of dress to wear to a formal concert or very posh dinner. But not Mother of the Bride outfits.
I think too you would be able to get something that would look so much better on you than these.
The big bow I would avoid. It overwhelms you.
I would have something much lighter in colour. And more Mother of the Bride appropriate. Hobbs do some nice clothes which might be suitable for daytime.

It looks too long on you and you have the wrong shape for the dress. I don't like the neckline either listen to your husband.

Ooooh the Yumi wrap dress is nice. Not matronly and also very pretty.
