Husband dislikes my mother of the bride dress choices, am I wrong?

Husband hates the dresses I loved - mob btw! He says the colour is wrong, the shape doesn’t suit. I felt fantastic in them ☹️. Ditching dh isn’t an option. Are they awful or is he being unreasonable?

As I’m awaiting a double total knee replacement, heels for hours may be quite a challenge!!!!! Good point to take into account! I will be changing into a lower heel

You’ve taken the feedback on board with both good grace and good humour so kudos to you 👏👏 you deserve a nicer dress, and if you go shopping with the right underwear and a spirit of joy I’m sure you’ll find a dress that looks amazing on you. And don’t discount buying something that’s a tiny bit generous and having it professionally tailored to you. But be brave!

I haven’t read the full thread, but if your DH thinks they don’t suit you then he must think you look better in things he sees you in other times. Maybe you could start by looking at what shapes from your actual wardrobe really do suit you (and colours!) and make you look your best, and find a more formal dress with those elements.

Good call on the chic website one, that cobalt blue dress would be lovely @Biggles27 but so would the pink one - those two you posted are nice but not ‘that nice’ if you know what I mean x

I can see what you are aiming at, but you need to have dresses that fit perfectly to achieve the look and so far that hasn’t happened. Do you know a good tailor who could make adjustments for you?

So sorry but that’s incredibly unflattering - you have such a nice figure but the style you’re looking at makes you look very dumpy and lumpy.

The colour is also not right - not for you or for a spring wedding.

What was it about those dresses you liked, and maybe we can help you find something less terrible?

Your husband is right. They are not flattering at all.

Is there a colour scheme for the wedding? When I got married, both mums wore outfits that tied in with the wedding colours.

Questions: Is circa £700 your upper limit for a dress? What height are you, what dress size are you, what bits are you happy to show/do you prefer to cover up?

What's your colouring & what colours do you like/suit? Do you want to wear plain or will you consider floral/patterned?

IMO, I think shops that cater for MoBs etc - & wedding dress shops in general - are total & utter style deserts that are full of clothes that are 99% petrochemical byproduct ... I think they are grim - & the clothes are guaranteed to make you look "matronly"! And yes, I know people on here object to words like frumpy, mumsy, matronly etc - but these shops operate in some sort of weird vacuum with obscene mark-ups on mainly not very nice clothes.

If you want to truly celebrate your new figure, springtime & the wedding, you are much better off ignoring anywhere catering for MoBs & looking at Net-a-Porter, The Outnet, MyTheresa, Liberty etc.

There are SO MANY beautiful dresses - in gorgeous fabrics including pure silk & silk blends - to be found, that will be entirely suitable & that will also look up-to-date.

A quick glance at a couple of the websites I mentioned above, & these stood out to me as lovely, & appropriate. They are by Bernadette, Beulah, Victoria Beckham & Roksanda. Looking at the individual websites for each designer will throw up more colours/styles etc.

And, because I love them, these Liberty silk dresses (which are infinitely nicer than anything in MoB shops by Kevan Jon, Veni Infantino & all those other strange labels that only get worn on these occasions ... AND cheaper!!)

HRTFT but my first impression would be that you're in mourning at the loss of your DD they're so dark. After white it would be the next colours I'd avoid.
With a £700 budget and with your figure you should be able to buy something much more flattering. On the plus side you have plenty of time. I know you've said London in Spring. Those outfits are the opposite of that. Sorry, I think your DH is correct.

Try a lighter colour for a spring wedding and make sure your daughter signs off the outfit. Well done on your weight loss and congratulations on your daughters wedding

I miss the legendary saleswoman at my old clothing store. I’d bring a pile to the fitting room, she’d look me dead in the eye, and say, "No. You can do better." Then she’d bring me the actual right outfits that were very flattering.
Meanwhile, regular sales clerks will watch you wear a burlap sack wrapped in caution tape and swear you look fantastic. Give me a brutally honest person with a critical eye any day.

If you have a John Lewis near you they have free personal stylist sessions. My body has recently changed shape and it helped push me to try on new styles and shapes that I wouldn’t have considered.
Don’t necessarily need to buy there but could help you understand what suits you now - and to make the most of your fabulous new figure.
You sound lovely and have taken the comments with great humour, you deserve to feel fabulous in your outfit

None of them are flattering on you. The length of the first one is all wrong, and they give you no shape. Infact they make you look wider as the waist sits in the wrong place. You need a dress that pulls you in more and gives you some shape and I agree about a good bra.

I would also avoid anything that screams mother of the bride.
