Hi
Getting married next Easter, elopement style wedding with daughter (28) and her partner as witnesses.
I have been sending pictures of dresses to daughter for her opinion and this came up on my feed. Sent to daughter as I thought it was perfect for me in terms of style, arms covered etc etc.
She hates it!!
For info 57 (age) size 10/12.
Am I loosing my style mojo?

It's your wedding, your dress, tell your daughter to feck off. You wear what makes you happy and gorgeous.

Why would you speak to your daughter like that, strange and aggressive thing to do. OP wanted her dd’s opinion.

diddl · 23/03/2025 15:31

Bit worried about actually been mistaken for mother of the bride so will have to tread carefully I think.

Wouldn't that only happen if your daughter looks like a bride?

You say "elopement style" so if there are any guests they'll know it's you getting married!

I wish "elopement" could be used correctly. The OP is having a low key wedding. She is not eloping.

Coffeeishot · 23/03/2025 17:51

Elopement does mean lowkey wedding these days though usually with a few guests/witnesses.

I like it a lot OP, it’s a bit different and the material will make it very sculptural. So the flared open sleeves and flower rosettes will hold shape. I like structured dresses, have a gorgeous black boiled wool Khaite dress which has a structured shape and I think it’s elegant and formal. If you have more ££, and given what you’ve said your shape is like, have you looked at Vivienne Westwood? Might be something there which suits. And for those who think rose dress adornments are old fashioned, see this on Natalie Portman from the independent spirit awards

Natalie Portman looks HIDEOUS, roses for tits and the one on her hips 😆
This is not helping the OPs dress look better, 'on trend' or not. Sorry

DuchessOfNarcissex · 23/03/2025 18:13

I agree with @IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle . Eloping is when you run away secretly to get married.

Bignanna · 23/03/2025 18:20

OP- Not read all other posts but have you tried Monsoon?

Mumwithbaggage · 23/03/2025 18:28

It's a bit safe in a busy way - think Kaleidoscope catalogue. I'm sure you can find something much lovelier and more stylish.

Grammarnut · 23/03/2025 19:59

MidnightMillie · 21/03/2025 11:39

Oh dear no, it's very 1970s.

You're around the same age as me so you'll remember Yootha Joice in 'George and Mildred'?

This is who immediately sprang to mind.

But as always, if you like it then go for it.

I was around in the 70s. I can't remember seeing anything like this for sale tbh - though I lived near London. I like it.

MrsJoanDanvers · 23/03/2025 21:49

I think it looks safe, old and dated and that’s on a young model. In your 50s size 10/12 you can find something to do you justice not be MOB when you’re the bride!. However, at the end of the day, you have to choose something you would like not is randoms. But have you looked at Self Portrait for example?

lovemycbf · 23/03/2025 21:56

Yes I agree with another that it’s a bit 70’s George and Mildred
but it’s your day and you can wear anything you like!

GingerFox2021 · 23/03/2025 22:35

Don’t be put off negative comments! If you tried and it looks brilliant on you, get it. People have a different taste. If we liked the same dresses, the world would be boring 🤓

Made in/ distributed from China. I wouldn't if I were you. Buying a £50 dress you've only seen on the internet from China is one thing, trying to return a £500 dress that bears little resemblance to the one you spotted on the internet when the sizing is all wrong is something else. You'd be mad to risk it.

Oh really!! I didn’t realise. Thanks for the warnings. Shame as the designs are lovely.

glittereyelash · 24/03/2025 13:05

My brain cant decide whether I like it or not I'd need to see it on you! The colour makes me very nostalgic it's the same colour my mum wore to my wedding.

JanglingJack · 24/03/2025 13:48

Coffeeishot · 21/03/2025 12:33

Maybe it's our old old eyes 😀 it is green though!

Absolutely green, of the minty kind.

I'm so glad you managed to decipher my old lady typing... Just substitute letters and words until it makes sense 🤣

SmoothEncounter · 24/03/2025 15:06

Yeah the ornamental cabbages make it a no from me too. They are just too weird on an otherwise completely plain and rather dull dress.

FondantFancyFan · 25/03/2025 04:21

The colour reminds me of the hospital teacups from the 1970s as they were in the same colour!

MrsJoanDanvers · 25/03/2025 07:17

Oh that Needle and Thread dress is lovely for a bride!

Thoughtsonstuff · 25/03/2025 08:31

FondantFancyFan · 25/03/2025 04:39

Not sure about this one. Might make you look like a pregnant set of net curtains.
