Hi
Getting married next Easter, elopement style wedding with daughter (28) and her partner as witnesses.
I have been sending pictures of dresses to daughter for her opinion and this came up on my feed. Sent to daughter as I thought it was perfect for me in terms of style, arms covered etc etc.
She hates it!!
For info 57 (age) size 10/12.
Am I loosing my style mojo?

One person's stunning is another person's frumpy!

I rather like your original dress OP. I love the rosettes. I'm less sure about the bare shoulders, mostly because it creates a long line right across the middle. I would probably try to soften that in some way. But the silhouette is lovely if you have the figure for it and the colour is perfect, especially for an older wedding.

Thanks for all the new suggestions.
Just to update I was never particularly set on the initial dress just thought it looked interesting and different and maybe worth a try on.
Now I have moved on..

Thanks for the Roksanda suggestion, most of the bridal dresses are exactly what I was picturing.
Particularly love these two

They've styled them very strangely. What shoes would you wear?

Patterncarmen · 26/03/2025 07:53

OP, it is your wedding. Wear what you’d like. If you aren’t sure, department stores like John Lewis will do a personal style consultation, so you can try out a variety.

Congratulations on your wedding!

I LOVE the dress - WITHOUT the daft flower rosettes! It's a very simple, understated style, but the fluted sleeve shape just gives it a little lift out of the mundane. I suppose at a push, it could be duck egg blue?

Smokedsausagesupper · 26/03/2025 10:06

I can't really do heels as such unless block platform type.
With these dresses would go for delicate silver sandles I think.

Love it ! The colour is great and the sleeves make it dressy

Smokedsausagesupper · 21/03/2025 12:17

Creeps quietly out of room..
🤣

I love it, and the colour, ignore everyone else 🌸

ApplesinmyPocket · 26/03/2025 18:15

OP, I like your chosen dress, INCLUDING the sleeve rosettes, which make it look a bit special (not understanding the hatred for those at all) and just the right amount of 'weddingy'. The colour and shape are lovely and I'd want long sleeves, too.

I wouldn't suit it myself as I'm not slim enough round the tummy and don't wear bare shoulders and back as I suspect they wouldn't count in my favour . 😉

If you try it on and it flatters your shape and the material is OK (some are saying it's not a nice dress material but I don't know what 'scuba crepe' is) then have it!

Some of the suggestions people have offered up as a replacement, however... well - I don't think she wants to look like she's dressed up in a flowery curtain for her wedding day, and why the obsession with cream and white? The short white puffball? The thick gold brocade sack thingy? It only goes to show how different people's taste can be, because some of those replacements look horrible to me!

Hideous. Sorry

Yup.

mdinbc · 26/03/2025 22:05

I actually really like it; because it is different, the colour is nice, and you probably have beautiful shoulders that would rock it. Have you had a try on?

Is this a second wedding for you?

CertainUncertain · 26/03/2025 23:57

Those Roksanda dresses are stunning and I also love the Safiyaa that @jellyfishperiwinkle posted.

333FionaG · 27/03/2025 06:43

I like it. Your wedding, your choice. I think it's a lovely elegant dress. Would you wear it again though?

Smokedsausagesupper · 27/03/2025 09:56

Not too botherd about wearing it again, i dont do that much with normal occasion stuff never mind my wedding dress @333FionaG May sell it afterwards.

And yes @mdinbc It is second wedding for me, first for OH.

I am 47 and I LOVE it. Who wants to be the same anyway. It is different and different is good. The important thing is that you love it, dont worry about what anyone else thinks including your daughter.

YourBestFriend · 27/03/2025 15:55

Revolting.

jenrobin · 27/03/2025 19:38

I usually like structured dresses, and my own 'alternative' wedding dress is a pale green, but.. it's a no, sorry! There's so many dresses out there that outcompete this. I think it looks pinched in the cigarette-shaped arms, (before it flares out ridiculously), and binds across the upper arm and bust like a straight jacket, which is not the slightly 'undone' effect you usually get from off the shoulder. The stands-up-on-it's-own scuba material also makes it look too uptight and constrictive. This is a mint coloured off the shoulder dress which is also romantic, but a bit more free flowing Chiffon Goddiva dress

DuchessOfNarcissex · 21/03/2025 12:30

The corsages are very current, so might date.
Not keen on the colour, neckline, length or fluted sleeves, but it's OK.

You don’t like the colour, neckline, length or sleeves, but then you say it’s ok! I am more than confused! There’s nothing left to remark on!

SassK · 21/03/2025 18:37

It doesn't matter though what age @Smokedsausagesupper is, she's the bride and should go for something special for her big day. I think this is lovely, it hangs beautifully 🤍

That’s awful! Stick to the original choice!

Gunnersforthecup · 28/03/2025 12:09

I think it looks very elegant! It is a lovely colour.

But as a woman of a certain age myself, I would wonder about "scuba" fabric making me feel too hot.

Hope you have a fantastic day, whatever you decide x

AfricanGreen · 28/03/2025 15:23

Absolutely love it. Properly structured, unusual.
Love the flower things, and love that you are in shape enough to rock it! (I'm not lol).

Parrotsandpussies · 31/03/2025 11:29

It's gorgeous. Love the colour and the sleeves. I might have to change my mind, depending on the "feel" of the fabric, but love everything else about it!

Freud2 · 05/04/2025 18:54

I love that dress!

MadeInYorkshire69 · 05/04/2025 19:25

Hello if you like the dress, wear the dress. It’s your wedding xx

Lauraanddogs · 05/04/2025 19:36

I actually really like it.
it doesn’t matter what other people say anyway.. your dress.. your day 👗
