Hi
Getting married next Easter, elopement style wedding with daughter (28) and her partner as witnesses.
I have been sending pictures of dresses to daughter for her opinion and this came up on my feed. Sent to daughter as I thought it was perfect for me in terms of style, arms covered etc etc.
She hates it!!
For info 57 (age) size 10/12.
Am I loosing my style mojo?

I think it's much better than anything else that has been suggested. They are all so day dress-ish and not special at all for your wedding dress. And some are downright ugly.

But then I'm always baffled by the suggestions on this board.

LadyRoughDiamond · 22/03/2025 13:54

Scuba fabric is a tough one. It’s all man-made fibres and so makes you sweat like mad. Plus, because of it’s thick, stretchy nature, it has to have a smooth, stiff line (no gathering), so it can show any lumps and bumps.

Just posting some Outnet ideas (mainly for my own enjoyment!!)

so pretty

similar but dark

striking

maybe too tea dressy

also a bit tea dressy

structured, white

structured ish, mint green

These all have sleeves, if you forgo sleeves there are a lot more options

Like the similar but dark dress

I’d recommend getting offline and heading to a bridal boutique that sells formal mother of the bride outfits along the lines of

https://theweddingshop.uk/product-category/mother-of-bride/

She Isn't mother of the bride though.

She Isn't mother of the bride though.

No, but the aesthetic seems to be in line with what she’s looking for - more formal and occasion-appropriate with cover-up options but still ‘wedding-y’.

Fair, I misunderstood what you meant sorry

Oh dear no, it's very 1970s.

You're around the same age as me so you'll remember Yootha Joice in 'George and Mildred'?

This is who immediately sprang to mind.

But as always, if you like it then go for it.

That’s what makes it cool!

Hwi · 22/03/2025 14:41

This cut is not for a 57-y.o. neck. Also, the rosettes are ridiculous.

sandrafarringdon66 · 22/03/2025 14:53

It's your wedding, your dress, tell your daughter to feck off. You wear what makes you happy and gorgeous.

BumbleBeegu · 22/03/2025 16:03

Love the colour (but I don’t think that shape/style would be very flattering on most people).

Smokedsausagesupper · 22/03/2025 16:18

Sorry, don't agree
Carol Kirkwood at 61, not ashamed of her age, nor should anyone be.

I like it, not for me, but for someone with the right colouring and figure, as it sounds like op has. At least, as it's from Next, you should order it to try on. You might hate it as soon as you try it on but then at least you'll know. Also don't know what people mean by scuba fabric. Most dresses are made of polyester or similar, if you want silk you'll be paying a lot more.

I'm early 60s and it's a no from me. It's very Abigail's Party

Smokedsausagesupper · 22/03/2025 16:58

Some lovely ideas, thanks to everyone who took the time.
The outnet and net a porter good shouts will keep an eye on those.
Mother of the bride also interesting, must admit some lovely dresses on there.
Bit worried about actually been mistaken for mother of the bride so will have to tread carefully I think.
Love the john lewis jersey dress in pearl, maybe not for the wedding but could work as a change into dress.
Love love love the Marchessa Notte and Abadia (very grecian goddess)
Yes also the Reformation will add to list to visit in London.
Looks like my link didn't work, mean to add above.

Love the colour - mint green
love the shape, including the sleeves. Even love the rosettes
not sure about the fabric

Agree gorgeous

SurferRona · 22/03/2025 20:20

I like it a lot OP, it’s a bit different and the material will make it very sculptural. So the flared open sleeves and flower rosettes will hold shape. I like structured dresses, have a gorgeous black boiled wool Khaite dress which has a structured shape and I think it’s elegant and formal. If you have more ££, and given what you’ve said your shape is like, have you looked at Vivienne Westwood? Might be something there which suits. And for those who think rose dress adornments are old fashioned, see this on Natalie Portman from the independent spirit awards

This is nice, isn't it??
IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 22/03/2025 23:50

It's awful. The sleeves, the material, the insipid colour. I'm 65 and I think I'd cry if I had to leave the house in that Adrianna Papell stuff.

MikeRafone · 23/03/2025 07:37

I see so many dowdie clothing like this www.a-n-a.com/shop/en/Dresses/Maxi-Dresses/Maxi-Dress-Porta.html?force_sid=fnmd1tmid01ipf2fgbpoop9srp linked and think this is very beautiful, not sure why its fussy - to me it looks simple with a more intricate sleeve. Lovely colour and yes has a 70s vibe to it

Enjoy wearing and enjoy your special day on elopement

Thoughtsonstuff · 23/03/2025 08:17

No room for a bouquet with that dress!

In my opinion (obviously) even Natalie Portman looks like she's got weird growths coming out of her in peculiar places. Not nice.
