Hi
Getting married next Easter, elopement style wedding with daughter (28) and her partner as witnesses.
I have been sending pictures of dresses to daughter for her opinion and this came up on my feed. Sent to daughter as I thought it was perfect for me in terms of style, arms covered etc etc.
She hates it!!
For info 57 (age) size 10/12.
Am I loosing my style mojo?

Actually, I like it (then again, I'm in my mid 50s and I did like the George&Mildred comment too! Wishing you well for your big day. x

Theseventhmagpie · 05/04/2025 19:42

I like it. More importantly, if you like it sod anyone else 😊

croydon15 · 05/04/2025 20:15

I think it's lovely, don't know if you are able to take off the rosettes

Pixie2015 · 05/04/2025 21:39

looks stunning on the model but think it’s a one you would need to try on yourself to see how looks.

PorridgeEater · 05/04/2025 22:12

You wear whatever you want to (the fact that I agree with your daughter doesn't matter at all....)

SharonBe · 05/04/2025 22:15

I'm 55 and I wouldn't wear it, even if I was a 10/12. I bet the fabric is horrific, it says online scuba crepe is usually polyester, I definitely wouldn't wear it, sorry. The rosettes are just the last straw, sorry.

Sassybooklover · 05/04/2025 22:39

I'm 50, and I love the dress! It's actually a simple style, with the rosettes on the sleeve adding a little decoration. My only reservation would be the fact it's off-the-shoulder, but that might be just me!

Horses7 · 05/04/2025 23:05

I’ve got a few AP dresses and love them - I like yours but really don’t like the rosettes, too big. The dress would look better without them.

Horses7 · 05/04/2025 23:09

Ps needle and thread dresses are lovely too.

DeirdreDarling · 05/04/2025 23:33

Have you considered renting? Loads of options for any designer.

This one is very similar to your original choice - structured and fitted. If you google 'falconetti dress, The Vampires Wife' - you will see how others have styled it for a wedding. Did you want a colour rather than wife/cream?

I think it's lovely - go for it! 🙂

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 06/04/2025 09:43

I love the roksanda dresses. And thankfully, flat clumpy footwear is having a moment, so you can wear something you can actually walk in on your feet 😁

Booboobagins · 06/04/2025 13:37

It is a beautiful dress.

You're wedding your choice.

Your DD I'm afraid is jealous in someway.

Buy it wear it rock!

I'm fairly sure the daughter doesn't like it for reasons other than jealousy. She presumably just wants her mum to look gorgeous on her wedding day.

Anyway I thought the OP had (wisely IMHO) decided to go with something else.

tillytoodles1 · 06/04/2025 20:31

Not really. Love the colour, but hate the neck and sleeves.

FKAT · 06/04/2025 20:37

The sleeve rosettes will drive you mad - given you're going to spend all day flexing your arms and bending your elbows - holding bouquet, showing your ring, raising champagne glass, first dance - they'll always be in your way.

Aside from that all I see is Freshmint Toothpaste Disney Princess costume.

I'm 51 and won't get married again but if I did, I would wear a proper wedding dress. I don't see why older brides can't have the full white bridal experience.

marsala1 · 07/04/2025 03:20

@minipie that first dress ( the floral) is gorgeous . @Smokedsausagesupper I really liked the dress until I saw that it was that scuba material, I don't know about you but I would be a ball of sweat. The other Adriana one ( beaded mesh shirred ) looks lovely too.

Bobbie1976 · 07/04/2025 13:51

Personally I think it's beautiful. Colour and rosettes!

JayboTheObscure · 07/04/2025 23:15

If its perfect for you then get it. "More perfect" isn't a thing.

You value your daughter's opinion, which is great.

But....

Has your daughter ever been wrong, ever?

Is your daughter always right about everything?

If you love the dress then that's the dress and you will look and feel incredible.

ARainyNightInSoho · 08/04/2025 19:06

I think it's great! Ignore anyone saying it's 1970s or George and Mildred style, as if that were a bad thing. The mid century look is totally on trend.

It's obviously a nod to the famous Vampire's Wife dresses which are highly coveted and very expensive (Kate Middleton, Trinny Woodall etc.) As someone has already suggested upthread you could actually get the original thing with the benefit of much better fabric and an even better fit, if you hired one.

Iammatrix · 10/04/2025 16:35

I like it! I wore Adrianna Pappell for my DDs wedding. I wore one of her more classic
cocktail style dresses as MOB.

As the bride you want something special but not the full wedding dress. Have you looked at her whole collection?

DH and I got married with my daughter and her partner as witnesses and her partners, now husband’s, family. I got married in a Ted Baker wedding dress, ivory, beautiful lace work, fitted, just below the knee. I was 52.
