1st March ~ start of a new season. After the rather wet winter for some areas, let's hope for something drier over the next few months.

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

@Delatron yes the joy of summer is to be out!

I was out on Saturday and part of yesterday afternoon, but it just got too hot

I can only sit in the communal garden here when the sun moves away from it. If it's in the 20s, people are out there all day even with laptops, etc. I'm indoors at the moment and there is no one even on a balcony.

I'm going to an air-conditioned bar shortly! Then I'll have a nice long walk in the evening - then I will return to a sweat box and it will take at least an hour of running the portable Aircon to get the flat usable again.

Sorry, this is all very boring

It's fine to be in here at the moment thank goodness. Sun hits my side about 4 o'clock. Definitely better than my old flat though. Also, I was on a very high floor and the windows were built so that you couldn't open them properly. As I keep saying, it is extraordinary to me that they built these flats without air-conditioning.

That was a London flat though, but it's genuinely rare to find flats with air-conditioning even there. That doesn't make sense to me. Especially with the thermal bricks!

Delatron · 25/05/2026 13:54

Ah @EmeraldRoulette I remember the days of my London flat (furnace) there was a crazy heatwave of I think 2002? I used to stand by the freezer and open and close it 😂.

They are now saying 27 for Wednesday. I was actually looking forward to 25 - those few degrees do make it more bearable. And I’m heading in to London.

Seems like it’s been a tricky heatwave to get the forecast temperatures right for. But by god it’s still out there - zero breeze. I had a cold shower in the middle of the night!!

33.5C has been recorded at Heathrow (provisional data from the metoffice) so it looks like the 1944 record has been broken...

Thanks @GloriaSmud not surprised and being half an hour away from Heathrow we won’t be far off that.

InMySpareTime · 25/05/2026 14:00

And not only the hottest May temperature but the hottest Bank Holiday, exceeding 33.3 on the August Bank Holiday 2019.

justasking111 · 25/05/2026 14:06

Family members both architects said Heathrow temp is taken in the shade within many acres and tons of concrete. That affects accuracy. As for flats in cities and towns, they are going to be hot boxes because budgets don't allow anything else. It's blooming expensive to build for heatwaves. Buyers won't pay it. Air con units are the only answer.

GloriaSmud · 25/05/2026 14:35

justasking111 ~ I often think that concrete affects the accuracy of these figures so it'll be interesting to see what other numbers come in from the area/ rest of the country.

My weather station says we're hovering around 34C at the moment.

Gosh that’s hot. I’m refusing to go outside until later 😀

GloriaSmud · 25/05/2026 15:40

We're putting off watering the allotment until 8pm-ish! And at least there's a bit of a breeze, which makes things a bit more bearable.

Northolt might have recorded a 34C according to xcweather.

It's just perfect in the NE, we have been out on our paddleboard, just back for bacon and egg rolls and coffee on the shade before we wash everything off.
Glass of wine and a book is calling me later 🌞🌞🌞
It's forecast to be 17 tomorrow and 14 on Wednesday

nannynick · 25/05/2026 16:02

My temperature sensor in a bush, is showing 33 at the moment. So 34 in Northholt would not surprise me.

justasking111 · 25/05/2026 18:23

Son and his two boys were on the beach on paddle boards at 8.30 this morning in Abersoch 😆

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 25/05/2026 21:19

25 degrees in SE London now. Feels warmer.

GloriaSmud · 25/05/2026 22:19

25C here as well (Leicester) The breeze we had earlier has gone so it doesn't feel very pleasant at the moment.

I might have to buy a weather station.

It was 27 in my flat when I got home

Aircon has brought it down to 24

Do we think it might hit 23 in time for bed?!

Good luck. Mine is still over 25. Window is open but there is no breeze at all so it’s not helping at all.

justasking111 · 25/05/2026 23:05

We used to have one until a storm destroyed it. Great fun. There was a receiver indoors that gave all the data.

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/05/2026 23:07

I’m thinking of getting one once I have sorted the garden out.

vanillachoc · 26/05/2026 07:33

Sleeping last night was so bloody hard. DS was in just a nappy and still super sweaty this morning. We have a west-facing window and it’s torture.

GloriaSmud · 26/05/2026 07:54

We're already at 22C this morning with the metoffice giving us a high of 32C this afternoon (slightly lower than yesterday), with a chance of thunderstorms later.

A chance of yesterday's new temperature record (34.8C) being beaten today?

Eek.

My cleaner messaged saying that she could come either Tuesday or Wednesday. Wednesday looks cooler so I suggested that she relaxes today. She has an allotment I bet that's a worry in this weather.

Tomorrow does look cooler, bit more heat on Thursday and then things gradually cool down before returning to unsettled next week.

We're going every other evening to do the watering at our allotment. I've got some tomato plants to go in but they'll have to wait until things cool down next weekend/into next week....

gingercat02 · 26/05/2026 09:48

It's 14 here, forecast to not get above 16, mad compared to the weekend. Cool for the rest of the week. Might make 19 at the weekend, but rain setting in on Sunday.
Back to spring, when it should be summer on Monday. British weather I guess.

EmeraldRoulette · 26/05/2026 09:59

I went out on my balcony - it's very small and has a metal floor, I do hate that - at about 4 am. It was really nice out.

I then debated going into the communal garden, but I was scrolling on here and then I felt the heat build at about 430! So I couldn't be bothered I didn't want to be seen in the garden in my nighty - it would've taken a couple of minutes to put some proper clothes on but then I thought I'd never go back to sleep

Anyway, that's when the cool air was available here!

I managed to get my meeting cancelled today. So while today is going to be a pain, I am so relieved I don't have to get on public transport!
