1st March ~ start of a new season. After the rather wet winter for some areas, let's hope for something drier over the next few months.

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

@GloriaSmud thank you

Any solid patterns for week commencing

8 June please? Too early I know!

GloriaSmud · 23/05/2026 06:38

@EmeraldRoulette ~ it is too early Grin (the GFS goes as far as the 8th June at the moment) but it's looking unsettled in the weeks leading up to that date so it looks like unsettled is the way it's looking....

The metoffice are saying the same for that time period, so they think the unsettled theme will continue as we go later into June....

6th-20th June
High pressure is more likely to prevail across the south and east, with lower pressure further north and west. Rain and showers are still possible at times, mainly across Northern Ireland and Scotland. During mid-June, rain and showers may occur more widely for a time. Drier weather is expected between any bouts of wetter weather - these drier interludes will tend to last longer across the south and east of England. Temperatures are most likely to be near or slightly above average overall, with some warm or very warm weather at times.

And Netweather's long-range is here so similar to the metoffice for that time period.

So 'unsettled' seems to be the theme ~ at least it'll be warm inbetween the showers Grin

Woke up to clouds again, which is keeping the temperature down. I think this pattern will continue for North Wales.

EmeraldRoulette · 23/05/2026 11:17

@GloriaSmud thank you

Haven't the Met office has been found to be using temperatures from stations that don't exist?

GloriaSmud · 23/05/2026 12:19

@EmeraldRoulette ~ I haven't heard about that one ~ they have an observation network all over the country so whether what you've heard is something to do with those maybe? (That's a lot of land stations to maintain though ~ I hadn't realised there were that many! Shock)

Met Office observations network

The Met Office owns and maintains the weather observations network in the UK to feed numerical weather models.

SE London, 27 degrees and sunny. Off to a bbq later. Cat is inside asleep, she likes heat and sun but not this much.

GloriaSmud · 23/05/2026 20:35

We've hit 29C today but there's been a nice breeze so it hasn't been too bad. I'm not sure it's going to be so pleasant in a few days time though as it gets hotter, especially if the breeze disappears....

OP posts:
EmeraldRoulette · 24/05/2026 12:11

was so nice here yesterday 🤗I got home about seven and had to turn the Aircon on but that ran for an hour or so and then it was fine to switch off and just have the windows open.

@GloriaSmud on the getting hotter....

I've got one weather forecast that's telling me tomorrow might hit 35 in my area. Tomorrow and Tuesday in fact.

Others are saying 29

As ever, accuracy is important in planning the day! If it really is 35 then I don't want to be out in it. I think they're pushing that to be honest. I'm in Essex. Any thoughts?

I know that some had their map of complete doom, they progressed from red to black so they're expecting the apocalypse I guess. 35 is a bit much. Also saying 24 overnight. Last night was fine. I don't know what it was, but it was fine.

countrygirl99 · 24/05/2026 13:02

Typically we have no water due to a burst water main. Good job we have plenty of low alcohol beer in 😄

GloriaSmud · 24/05/2026 14:57

@EmeraldRoulette ~ I think 35C is pushing it as well, 32 or 33C (which is hot enough!) is more likely. I'm hoping the breeze will stay, just so it moves the air about towards the end of the day and (hopefully!) gets rid of some of the daytime heat. Nighttime temperatures aren't looking too bad at the moment ~ mid-teens sort of thing, so hopefully nights will be bearable during this heat spell.

@GloriaSmud thank you

The temperature has actually gone up a lot since I posted. There was a really noticeable change.

@countrygirl99 that's great on the beer, but I hope you've got water as well!

countrygirl99 · 24/05/2026 15:13

@EmeraldRoulette I filled the kettle, a water bottle and all the dog bowls as soon as I heard about it. Flushing the loo is the big problem. Water should be back on this evening.

nannynick · 24/05/2026 17:12

Local weather station on wunderground has recorded 36.2 degrees at 4.24pm.
Not an official reading as it may not be located at correct height, correctly shaded etc.
NOAA is showing 31 degrees C recorded at Heathrow.

@countrygirl99 Burst water main is not good. Least you have beer. I'm on larger - I like Heineken 0.0 - alc free larger tastes nice these days.

I actually keep water for that

I haven't really got any space but running entirely on the main it seems like a good idea

My previous flat had a little bit of tank water if it went on for too long we'd run out though

@nannynick I always want to know what the temperature is in the Sun. If you have to walk everywhere (as I do), that's useful information.

Sorry I missed you asking this

Apparently, it's been debunked, but this is what happened

This is interesting from Science Feedback on the fabricated data claims....

No, the UK Met Office is not fabricating climate data, contrary to a blogger’s claims - Science Feedback

Certain weather stations collect decades of data, but later need to close down. Rather than letting this data go to waste, scientists are able to combine this past data with more recent data from nearby well-correlated stations (i.e., those with simila...

And for those that don't like the heat, next week is looking cooler and more unsettled!

OP posts:
Delatron · 25/05/2026 11:09

The temperature swings are insane and quite annoying. I don’t want 12 degrees like last week. 32 degrees is also not great in this country then back down to 14 next week! Please can we have around 24/25 and stable?😀

I concur that I would like it to be cool next week as DS2 has GCSEs so that would be unbearable in this heat.

EmeraldRoulette · 25/05/2026 11:33

@Delatron I know exactly what you mean

Perhaps I haven't been paying enough attention - I'm normally obsessed with weather but I've had a lot on my mind so this is likely the case.

I hadn't realised that this heatwave was likely to extend into hotter weather later in the week. I also didn't realise it was covering Tuesday when it was forecast last week, and I would've organised this weeks work a lot differently if I had known. Because public transport in this weather really is horrendous.

It looks to me like Thursday, Friday and Saturday are going to be really hot as well.

Add in living in a tiny hot flat, and it does take a lot of planning. Sorry to repeat myself, but again I am absolutely convinced that weather forecasts were better in previous years. You could look at least two weeks ahead and it would be pretty accurate.

But maybe I wasn't paying enough attention on this occasion.

I get terrible SAD but this is the second year in a row it feels like we haven't had spring. Going from 12 to 32 is a pain actually. I definitely don't want to repeat of last year. I never thought I would be sick of sunshine, that really surprised me.

again, relentless sunshine in this country seems like a very different thing than when I've been working abroad. They obviously had aircon though and properly shaded windows.

Delatron · 25/05/2026 11:50

@EmeraldRoulette I think it has changed recently. When I first looked it was due to break and cool down to a more bearable 25 from Weds. Every time I look now there is quite a variety so I’m guessing there was uncertainty.

I think today and tomorrow are the hottest days then Weds nice at around 25 then back up to high 20s (SE). Proper cool down next Tuesday and rain and 16.

Delatron · 25/05/2026 11:52

I think the issue is - I can’t actually sit in the garden at 32 degrees so it may as well be raining as it’s too hot to be out in. Completely missed out those lovely low 20s temperatures…and then back down to 16 and rain. I am finding it very annoying.
