1st March ~ start of a new season. After the rather wet winter for some areas, let's hope for something drier over the next few months.

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

Gosh all the reports vary so much with temperatures - it’s hard to know what to think for Friday and Saturday. Even today was supposed to be cooler in the SE and met office are now saying 30. Phone saying 28.

I have cloud and 23 on my phone weather for Friday. I have full sun and 25 from the met office. Why can’t they agree or get it right? Those few degrees when we are talking high temperatures do make a difference as does full sun versus cloud!!

Delatron · 27/05/2026 07:39

Saturday in particular- 24 degrees and cloud according to whatever web app my phone uses. 27 and sun/cloud according to the BBC. There is a big difference to how 24 max feels and 27!!

countrygirl99 · 27/05/2026 08:36

I never find the BBC weather app very accurate. Until recently I had a horse so was checking the weather frequently.

Delatron · 27/05/2026 09:38

BBC is rubbish this is true. I find the Met Office probably most accurate.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/05/2026 11:23

@Delatron yeah I can't get a handle on what's gonna happen in the next few days and it is so important for planning

the flat hasn't let go of heat and it will take a good few days before it does so that's a nightmare.

If this carries on, I'm going to turn into one of these people who hates summer

It would've helped a lot if there had been more advance warning of this but I still feel as if there was very little really - I still don't understand what's happened to the forecast.

last night was a real struggle

I've been wondering if an air purifier would help.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/05/2026 11:30

Just to add
The stuffiness in the flat makes it so difficult, it wasn't the heat itself.

justasking111 · 27/05/2026 12:36

I'm chewing up antihistamines because 💥 the pollen has erupted. Fexofenadine in the morning from GP is not enough so I've been adding piriton at night. Sigh...

justasking111 · 27/05/2026 12:41

I dug out the fan yesterday evening for the sitting room. The movement of air if you sit in front of it does help. We moved from a two hundred years old cottage built of stone to a naice brick built dormer. Trust me when I say two feet thick stone is cooler than brick.

Up the road a new estate wooden frame built homes with insulation and plasterboard. God help them.

Chance of thunderstorms for the SW and Wales this afternoon onwards ~ perhaps you'll catch one of those justasking111, might dampen the pollen down a bit?

Off the Welsh coast now. We can but hope. Canadian group playing golf in N Ireland this morning put up a video. Dank with a sea mist. Everyone wrapped up.

@GloriaSmud do you have any thoughts on a temperature figure for Thursday Friday and Saturday in Essex please?

It's now Wednesday evening and it's just wildly differing weather forecasts. Of course it doesn't matter to the weather forecasters 😂 but for me there is a big difference between 25 and 32 in terms of how I plan my day. And those temperatures are estimated from shade, aren't they? I never understand that. It's not possible to go about your ordinary business outdoors and only walk in shaded areas.

leesmum · 27/05/2026 18:14

@GloriaSmud don't suppose you can let me know what Sunday morning 9am in Manchester is looking like? I'm doing my first half marathon and although I don't want it too hot I don't fancy getting soaked either 😝
Thanks as always 😊

GloriaSmud · 27/05/2026 19:35

@EmeraldRoulette ~ I'm going from 9am-6pm each day here so Thursday, temperatures range from 23 (9am) heating up to 28C during the day, Friday 22-24C and Saturday, 18-27C. Not sure about temperatures being estimated in the shade, I'm taking them from the GFS weather model and then doing a check with the metoffice and (give or take a degree or two!), I seem to be in the same sort of area as them!

@GloriaSmud thank you - so you're not expecting 34 for Essex tomorrow?

GloriaSmud · 27/05/2026 19:45

@leesmum ~ between 9-12 on Sunday, about 15C rising to 20C with light showers. So there will be rain about but maybe about right temperature-wise for running? Good luck with the marathon on Sunday Smile

Sorry, I'm ranting

I went in the garden, I had to go back inside and get something else to put on (obviously I have no idea what the real temperature is like in my flat because the heat gets trapped in there)

So now it's really cool and breezy, which is great

But I went out for a very long walk was out for two hours at lunchtime, because I didn't know that it was going to cool down.

Absolutely no forecast said that and with it allegedly being 34 tomorrow, I just thought this evening in the garden was going to be l like yesterday evening in the garden - like sitting in a hot hairdryer! And I was really restless and antsy because I was trapped in the flat all day yesterday.

So I could've done my walk in the evening! Really annoying. I didn't get very far at lunchtime because it was too freaking hot. But now I'm knackered. And grumpy.

God, I really hope it's not 34 tomorrow.

We need a thread for moderate weather fans. Between 10 and 25 is normal.

And next week is going to rain all week

GloriaSmud · 27/05/2026 19:57

@EmeraldRoulette ~ no, no sign of 34C at all and the metoffice are going for the upper 20s, maybe hitting 30C in some places but no 34C Smile

I hope you're right

I already planned around it though

I follow a local amateur forecaster who is good but she's often away for work and doesn't do any forecasting

it's now quite chilly in the garden and boiling in the flat

or maybe my internal thermostat has gone even more wrong than isual

i promise to be quiet now 🤐

justasking111 · 27/05/2026 21:25

We've had thunder and lightning from the west and north for the last hour or more it's just sitting over us. No rain here but looking up the valley I suspect there is.

justasking111 · 27/05/2026 21:28

Next stop Isle of Man?

Delatron · 27/05/2026 21:36

Yeah it’s cooled down a lot outside now with a breeze but my house really seems to be clinging on to the heat! Our houses are so badly designed for the heat!

All the windows open and trying to get the breeze through.

Was strange today that it was cooler in London than here in S. Bucks.
