1st March ~ start of a new season. After the rather wet winter for some areas, let's hope for something drier over the next few months.

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

I think the very slight breeze is making it marginally more bearable than yesterday and I did sleep slightly better. Though maybe I was just knackered.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 26/05/2026 10:22

28 degrees this morning. Could barely sleep last night but did a bit as have a fan. WFH today luckily.

RafaistheKingofClay · 26/05/2026 11:16

i think you have the breeze we had yesterday. It’s gone today. Local weather underground station had temp at 28.5 with a feels like of 30 at 10am. I don’t think it is too far out.

this bus is like a sauna. Air conditioning at work is going to feel lovely.

justasking111 · 26/05/2026 13:39

DH went out in the boat fishing at 6am. He went yesterday afternoon zilch. This morning zilch. The algae bloom is forming. It's just slimy today. Within a few days will be grim. Fish are smart, have headed way out to sea.

GloriaSmud · 26/05/2026 14:17

We're up to 35C according to my weather station (think that might be over-doing it a bit though) but there are a lot of clouds forming so maybe a few rumbles of thunder later on....

Time to start checking the lightning map

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 26/05/2026 14:30

No thunderstorm for us in SE London today

@justasking111 I have this image of the fish partying further out to sea, feeling like "ha ha! We won't be caught out here"

That's not a moral comment. I had prawns at lunch 😂

Reports for the rest of the week vary massively - even for tomorrow. I worked through lunch because there was no point even trying to go outside.

I'm sitting in front of the Aircon unit now

Might be worth going in the garden after 5.30 but that might be too early I don't know. might be better off in here. Weird.

RafaistheKingofClay · 26/05/2026 17:21

Local weather station has the feels like temp at 32 still so 5.30 might still be early for going into the garden.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 26/05/2026 17:30

32 degrees now in SE London.

trying29 · 26/05/2026 17:41

Just dropped my kids off in SE London and my car registered 37. My house is 31 degrees. It’s sweltering. No one seems to be out on the streets

Agree

I'm giving the aircon unit a break because now the Sun has come round to my side of the building, it's fighting a losing battle.

So I'm now hiding in the bedroom, which has less window which is better, sitting in front of a fan

Again, confusingly, it feels like a waste to be indoors. I do hope it really does cool down. It seems strange as it's apparently going straight back up on Thursday and Friday.

Wow look at the lightning âš¡ âš¡

GloriaSmud · 26/05/2026 19:36

justasking111 ~ we're on the edge of that big storm across E. Leicestershire up towards S. Nottingham ~ the wind's got up and we've heard a good few rumbles from it but that's been about it!

justasking111 · 26/05/2026 19:43

You have wind what bliss

EmeraldRoulette · 26/05/2026 19:57

Ooh the storms look fab but there's nothing in Essex

countrygirl99 · 26/05/2026 20:00

We can hear a lot of rumbling in North Beds but it's still in the distance

GloriaSmud · 26/05/2026 21:17

Still not had a storm (and I don't think we will now) but we've benefitted from the temperature drop from the big E.Leics/S. Notts one earlier ~ 30C+ down to 20C now, so hopefully in for a more comfortable night ready for a bit more heat tomorrow and Thursday and then a cool down again over the weekend.

Wow

Still on "keep the windows open to keep the hot air out" here in Essex

That's partly why I don't believe tomorrow is going to be that much cooler. I can't see when the cooling happens. Not substantially anyway.

I was just about to agree with you and then ten seconds ago... BANG!!!!!!! Effing close - didn't even see the flash.😮

The south/SE always seems to hold on to the heat when it comes to heatwaves but hopefully after midnight there'll be some sort of temperature drop (even if it's a few degrees) and people can get a few hours of cooler temperatures (and some sleep!)

YoBetty · 26/05/2026 22:26

We had the mother of all thunderstorms for ten minutes, biblical rain included, and then it just switched off. Gone. Just like that.

GloriaSmud · 27/05/2026 07:33

No rain here but got a really good breeze going. Hopefully a cooler day for most today and then another hot day tomorrow before things cool down for the weekend. The only exception to this is (if you draw a line from the SE, through parts of the Midlands to N.Wales) those areas south of the line, keep hold of the heat today.

And no rain means it's another watering session at the allotment this evening!....
