1st March ~ start of a new season. After the rather wet winter for some areas, let's hope for something drier over the next few months.

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

We actually had a couple of decent showers Wednesday. Just after I took this photo in an arable field.

@countrygirl99 we had a decent amount of rain overnight on Wednesday, after I had emptied my water butt's on Tuesday, watering my seedlings and some very floppy alliums obviously!

@GloriaSmud do you have any thoughts on the long-term weather forecast please? So for like a month or so.

I'm having some issues because I wanted to book some time away, within the UK

I now have a horrible amount of dental work to do and most of it is coming under the umbrella of urgent, but it seems such a shame to waste what looks like a sunny month and not take the opportunity to go away.

I'm reluctant to book hotels and train tickets until the last minute, because obviously if they suddenly forecast three days of rain, I'm not going

I have heard one person say that we're looking at about a month of sunshine which is extra extraordinary and very exciting! And spring is my favourite month

So yeah... just trying to work out what to do.

GloriaSmud · 21/04/2026 12:47

@EmeraldRoulette ~ it's not looking too bad. The Gfs goes up 'til the 7th May and it's looking fairly settled at the moment, perhaps a bit showery towards the end of the run. Temperatures look ok/average for the time of year ~ some warm days, chilly at night sort of thing.

Netweather's seasonal thoughts on Spring here might help and also their month ahead forecast here.

Hope the dental work goes well...Smile

Thanks @GloriaSmud loving the sunshine and excited it’s due to get a bit warmer.

Might need to think about watering the garden soon.

GloriaSmud · 21/04/2026 14:41

@Delatron Smile My garden's getting by with the odd shower/drizzle at the moment but the metoffice are forecasting 18/19C for us, Friday and Saturday and nothing in the way of rain so can see watering the garden might become a thing in the next week or two!

EmeraldRoulette · 21/04/2026 14:57

@GloriaSmud thank you
That's interesting
that's very far from someone saying it's gonna be sunny for a month! That was a sort of amateur forecaster I saw on social media
Maybe they were trying to get attention 😂

GloriaSmud · 21/04/2026 15:30

@EmeraldRoulette (Amateur like me! 😆)
Maybe the forecast for the next few weeks can be summed up with the words 'settled' and 'about average for the time of year' and it's the sort of weather, I think, that will suit us all just fine!

EmeraldRoulette · 21/04/2026 15:35

@GloriaSmud I knew you were going to comment on my use of the word amateur

To me, you are the Oracle! I do also miss OBBYK though. < waves in case of lurking>

GloriaSmud · 21/04/2026 16:04

@EmeraldRoulette Blush
I miss OYBBK too ~ I think she's off doing other things these days (hopefully weather related, as she was so knowledgeable about it) <also waves, in case she's lurking!>

I wish this cold wind 🌬️ would push off. Too chilly to sit out with a book still.

The wind is a bit annoying! Definitely not sitting out weather yet. But will be glorious when it dies down

Think I’ll have to give in and water the garden this weekend. We have a new house and for the first time in my life I have wisteria and I’m desperate not to kill it! May need to get on the gardening boards.

Ijwwm · 23/04/2026 09:20

I am SO fed up of the wind, really want it to ease off (go away completely). It’s making it really unpleasant trying to spend any extended amount of time getting stuff done outside. I’m trying to get loads of new fence panels painted. Am bundled up in a parka and gloves to try to do as much as I can without feeling like my fingers are going to drop off.

Rant over!

GloriaSmud · 23/04/2026 15:59

The wind seems to have dropped here and any breeze that there is, is coming from a different direction so not so cold.

Thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook on the next few days...

21 degrees in Taunton this afternoon. Had a sunny walk this afternoon. Hope it gets a bit cooler this evening.

gingercat02 · 24/04/2026 18:28

I have been out on a small island on the north sea all afternoon. BALTIC in the wind, but beautiful sunshine 🌞

countrygirl99 · 24/04/2026 18:50

Had a glorious walk in the Peak District yesterday. Well worth the 3 hour each way drive. Needed a serious de-stress session and it really hit the spot (as did the post walk cake😁).
Remains really dry hear. Not surprised to hear that some places in the east have only had 1mm of rain so far in April. Can't be good for agriculture.

Isn't it amazing the difference a bit of brightness makes to life!

Delatron · 27/04/2026 08:24

It’s so nice! Everything is better with this weather. I am always perplexed by those (only on Mumsnet to be fair) who prefer endless rain and grey and cold.

Sat in the garden having breakfast in my shorts and listening to the birds. Being inside would not be preferable!!

Thanks @GloriaSmud it’s good to hear we are in for a settled week.

justasking111 · 27/04/2026 08:43

My hayfever allergies are bad. Mother nature is throwing out pollen all in a rush.

GloriaSmud · 27/04/2026 20:55

Delatron ~ Smile
We've had a lovely day, some cloud this afternoon and then heavy rain this evening. At least the garden has had a bit of a watering and it's filled my water butts a bit (which were looking a little on the empty side!)
