1st March ~ start of a new season. After the rather wet winter for some areas, let's hope for something drier over the next few months.

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

Thanks Gloria - I’m grateful for the brief warm up. But would like a more permanent warm up now! So much yo-yo ing with the weather at the moment. Hard to dress for/plan.

GloriaSmud · 06/05/2026 08:24

Delatron ~ the temperatures could indeed do with a bit more 'warm and staying warm (maybe with a bit of overnight rain thrown in and less of the chilly wind),' rather than the up/down we're having!

Well another cold morning but the sun is peeping through. So fingers crossed 🤞

justasking111 · 09/05/2026 14:16

I give up max temperature 13c minimum 10c at 2pm if it's true they're spraying the skies they're seriously overdoing it. 🤬

gingercat02 · 09/05/2026 15:40

It 7°c here according to my car. Wet, windy, could be November or February not the middle of May.
At least I don't have to water the garden.

In the south east/london border and it’s glorious. Warm and sunny, got a light jacket but once I start walking probably won’t need it!

Ah sorry for those not having good weather.

The weather gods smiled on me for my party. The forecasted rain did not materialise and we had the most perfect day in the SE. Sunny and around 21 degrees. Very lucky.

Annoying that it’s going to be chilly this week.

south London was 22 yesterday and its 9 and drizzling this morning! what a contrast!

Exactly the opposite here in the NE. TBH it's not 22, but it is sunny and warmish.
7 and peeing down yesterday

trying29 · 10/05/2026 11:53

I would welcome rain here - we haven't had anything in weeks.

Not drizzling in SE London today but cloudy and colder. Yesterday was lovely 22 degrees.

Who ordered the wind? I'm guessing Evri delivered it to me by mistake 😤

Never cast a clout till May is out

Never cast a clout till May is out

That saying is meant to be Never cast a clout till t' (the) may is out (meaning the Hawthorn blossom) and it's been out in most places in the UK for a week or more. But I must admit that here on the NE coast of England, I wait until May is over so therefore 'out'. Seems like other places are feeling similar. It's a PITA though as I am wearing thermals here every month other than June, July and August.

This time last year, though, it was balmy by comparison!

justasking111 · 10/05/2026 21:15

I sat in a field yesterday at sons. The blossoms on the hawthorn were beautiful.

It's very irksome when it's cold and windy outside but you have to water all the planters you've filled for the summer because there's no rain.

We lit the log burner at 5pm on Friday. 🤬

GreatestOfAllTimes · 11/05/2026 16:26

My Yorkshire ddad would always say nay cast a clout, not never.

Delatron · 11/05/2026 17:40

Ne’er cast a clout

GloriaSmud · 12/05/2026 08:04

Temperatures were down to 2.1C overnight for us and the chilly/unsettled theme looks set to continue for the rest of the week...

Raining, grey, cold. Bored of this now. Please @GloriaSmud can you find a warm weather prediction for NE England 🌞

Delatron · 12/05/2026 08:17

My only slight bit of optimism at the moment is that often the day turns out better than the forecast. It was supposed to be cold and showery in the SE yesterday. It was chilly but I went for an evening walk and the sun was out and it was quite pleasant.

It is sunny this morning so I’m sitting out. If it’s not windy then I find the sun is warm even if the air is cold….

Hoping it warms up for everyone soon.

GloriaSmud · 12/05/2026 08:45

@gingercat02 ~ Sunday but more into early next week. So it's a bit of a wait and a few more days of the gloom and grey for the NE...

We're not getting the rain they keep forecasting either. But dang that North wind is cold.

GloriaSmud · 13/05/2026 11:27

Chilly with frequent showers seems to be the theme today ~ we've already had a couple of heavy thundery ones...
