Today is the start of meteorological Autumn and the weather this week, certainly looks like it's going to match up to the new season! As for the rest of Autumn, there aren't any strong signals either way as to what to expect but here are some thoughts from….
TheWeatherOutlook.
And Netweather's thoughts for the week ahead...

Temperature dropped slightly below 0c last night but was mostly between 0 and 1 for us overnight. So we've got a cold snap for a few days with a risk of frost, wintry showers and snow.

Was a bit surprised when my heating turned itself on at 4.30 yesterday afternoon. I wasn’t expecting the temp to drop that low.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2025 21:42

I'm not looking forward to the dog walk in the morning, 3°, feels like -3°. 🥶

justasking111 · 18/11/2025 23:27

Was sleeting walking the dogs on the hills this morning, and at home this afternoon.

Thissickbeat · 19/11/2025 07:13

Proper cold and wet in Hampshire. I'm going to leave for work at the very last second possible, it looks like this should blow over.

gingercat02 · 19/11/2025 08:01

We have some very crap icy looking snow. It's just started again fine, fast falling, the worst kind of snow ❄️ It still cloggs up the roads but brings no joy.

We have snow in Herts! Coming down in fat flakes but the pavements are wet so it will turn to mush.

Delatron · 19/11/2025 08:20

Well well well. I have just watched heavy rain turn to snow in S. Bucks. Unexpected! It won’t settle but nice to see the flakes rather than rain..

NoWordForFluffy · 19/11/2025 11:45

Blue skies and sunshine here. Plus 30+ mph winds. Corking drying day!

GloriaSmud · 19/11/2025 13:37

We might have had a wintry shower just before dawn here (Leicester) but other than that, it's been a day of sunny spells with a chilly wind here.

First frost of the season in west Oxfordshire! Currently -1.2C.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/11/2025 07:55

We had quite a hard frost overnight. The puddles had frozen and the grass in the woods was white and crunchy. The paths were fine on the estate, as it's slightly warmer due to people / streetlights etc.

The dog had a great time investigating the frozen grass!

gingercat02 · 20/11/2025 07:58

Real snow today. I love snow, but Northumberland in a new car (yesterday) not so much.

GloriaSmud · 20/11/2025 09:42

-1.9C when I got up this morning. Frozen pond and puddles and that's about it.

(Take it slow in the new car gingercat02 ~ and that goes for anyone having to venture out in the warning areas today.)

It's been mad hasn't it? I did the school run both yesterday and this morning in almost blizzard like snow. It was very pretty when I woke up to it this morning but the roads have been a nightmare.

Not much snow but the roads are appalling. The new (to me) car was no bother, which is good as I bought it for DS to learn in.

I’m in usually the last place to get snow, a bit of Manchester that gets even less snow than the rest of the Manchester Snow Shield. Not a flake here.

We very rarely get snow on the NW coast. If we get it, you know it's Snowmageddon elsewhere!

After our cold snap, it's looking mild and unsettled for the next week or two but colder weather might not be far away, as we look towards December.....

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 23/11/2025 07:31

And the long range forecast from the metoffice raises the possibility of a few cold snaps as well....

Thursday 27th November - Saturday 6th December
After a settled start across much of England and Wales, it will be quickly turning unsettled across Northern Ireland, Scotland, and then the remainder of England and Wales through Wednesday and into Thursday, with cloud and rain bearing Atlantic systems heralding a step change back towards more changeable, or even unsettled conditions through the last days of November into early December. Rain could at times be heavy and prolonged, with the risk of gales. There could be some short-lived transient settled periods too, perhaps bringing an increased risk of frost and fog for a day or two, this most likely further south east. Milder than seen recently, with temperatures more generally above average than below through much of the period.

Sunday 7th - Sunday 21st December
Likely remaining generally unsettled with spells of wet and windy weather, especially for areas further north and west. Towards the south east, there are more likely to be intermittent settled periods, with an increased likelihood of fog and overnight frost. Above average temperatures are slightly more likely overall, but colder spells could still occur. One or more spells of snow cannot be ruled out, should weather systems arrive into colder air.

Thanks @GloriaSmud

The possibility of a few cold snaps and snow sounds good. Rather than mild drizzle!

GloriaSmud · 26/11/2025 06:45

The weather charts seem to be 'flip-flopping' all over the place as we go towards December and after initial thoughts that we could be heading towards a calm but chilly month, it's looking like the jet stream could be powering up again and sending some storms our way...

Some thoughts from Netweather...

Stormy period of weather looking likely for early December

After a quiet & chilly start to the week, it looks to turn milder but also windier & unsettled from Thursday, potentially stormy next week, as a very strong zonal jet stream over the Atlantic takes aim at the UK and Ireland.

Back to a hard frost here today. Throughout the day today the temp rises and it's back to warmer and wet tomorrow.

It can't quite make its mind up!
