Today is the start of meteorological Autumn and the weather this week, certainly looks like it's going to match up to the new season! As for the rest of Autumn, there aren't any strong signals either way as to what to expect but here are some thoughts from….
TheWeatherOutlook.
And Netweather's thoughts for the week ahead...

I’m staying in tomorrow, it looks foul for us, 27mm forecast. I had a bastard of a drive in the rain on Tuesday taking Mum back & fore to cataract surgery, I am going to hole up on Friday. Bugger that.

We had this on Tuesday. If it hadn't been a hospital visit I'd have said to DH let's turn around.

Same here, it was awful, I could hardly see at times.

SoMentallyDrained · 13/11/2025 23:36

5° high on Wednesday... FIVE?! 😭

justasking111 · 13/11/2025 23:45

Jakers us too. DS has snow forecast 🙈

GloriaSmud · 14/11/2025 07:19

The rain arrived just after 9pm last night and looks like it's going to just keep going today and overnight. It's going to be an awful day for some areas with the chance of flooding.
(And next week does look colder with the chance of frosts....)

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook on today's weather...

We still have 'light rain' up here with 30mph winds. It's due to get wetter and windier this evening.

I'm concerned for our housing estate. We have culverts throughout which fill with rainwater and they're already almost to the top. God knows what the forecast rain will do to them.

I've only just joined this interesting thread.

Just wondering why is Storm Claudia when it says it will be named Storm Chandra on page 1?

I assume that’s because it wasn’t named by our Met Office.

It was named by the Spanish met. service.

(I think all the weather services in the different European countries, need to get together and decide on one system of names!....)

Is there a reason why they don’t get together to agree names? I suppose it might be too unwieldy? Or too political!

justasking111 · 14/11/2025 12:54

I'm two weeks post hip surgery. Can't lay up the fire so awaiting DH return so that he will for me.

I'm looking at our metoffice forecast for tomorrow ~ several hours of more heavy rain, followed by several hours of light rain, then several hours of drizzle and to finish off the day, more light rain. Think I'll stay in until Sunday!

justasking111 ~ hope you're recovering well and keeping warm.

Seems a shame that storm Bram missed Halloween though, that would have been good storm name timing.

Notonthestairs · 14/11/2025 16:15

GloriaSmud · 14/11/2025 12:56

Notonthestairs ~ I'm not sure why they don't get together. Netweather have quite a good blog entry here (from last year) about the storm naming groups. It does seem a bit strange to have 3 different areas all deciding storm names though....

Really interesting article- thanks Gloria.

I've filled both of my grit bins today as it definitely looks like we might have frost in the coming days. It's felt bitter cold here on the NE coast of England today. I'm considering two pairs of socks and two pairs of gloves going forward. The stove has been on for hours and it's toasty, but my feet are still freezing! We still have a snowflake showing for Friday 21st

Sending much love to anyone who has been affected by the awful weather recently

Thissickbeat · 16/11/2025 20:24

It looks like we have perfect laundry drying weather in Hampshire tomorrow. I have so much to get through.
I had an organised moment and made sure I know where all the gloves and wooly hats are so we're not scrambling around for them on tues morning.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/11/2025 07:13

🥶 We have our first frost. I've just been running past people defrosting cars as well.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 17/11/2025 07:57

Our first frost will probably be Wednesday night and maybe another on Thursday night. There are still a lot of leaves on the trees and I'm imagining them all falling at once.

The river here is at a much better level and has gone from 54cm last Monday to 1.2m today.

InMySpareTime · 17/11/2025 08:08

It looked a bit frosty out first thing but now the sun’s up it’s all clear. Heading for the point of the year where we can smugly get the car out of the garage in the morning and drive past everyone still scraping their cars.

GloriaSmud · 17/11/2025 08:46

No frost here this morning but temperature was around 2.6C when I got up this morning. Looks like Wednesday and Thursday nights could be frosty for us.

'Tis going to be a chilly (and wintry in some places) week...(so InMySpareTime can continue with the smug feeling!)

Spending the night on the sofa I woke up at 4am, perished.

Snow and ice warning!!! So exciting. I love snow. Even if it’s a complete pain

RainbowZebraWarrior · 17/11/2025 14:40

We are under a weather warning for snow and ice on Wednesday and Thursday, and on the very edge of the warning for Tuesday. Will be interesting to see how it pans out. BBC forecast bears absolutely no resemblance to the met Office warnings yet...
