The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Unsettled start to June likely, but how may the rest of summer play out?

Ahead of the Netweather Summer 2025 forecast, we look at some the clues that point to how the summer may turn out after a likely unsettled start to June.

Thanks @GloriaSmud my garden is loving the rain but I'm hoping for more sunny spells this summer 🌞

GloriaSmud · 30/05/2025 07:50

@leesmum ~ it's certainly nice to get some rain and it looks like there's more to come over the weekend and into next week at times. The week after that (as always, too far into the future for it to be a certainty!), it looks like summer returns bigtime, with temperatures for the midlands and the south, hitting 20-28C

Just like today in London all summer would be nice please 🤭.

EmeraldRoulette · 31/05/2025 21:37

Today is sooooo humid... or muggy or something? I can't quite put my finger on it.

feels as if a thunderstorm is about to hit but nothing forecast

It's not hot, but there's no air!

Pixiedust1234 · 31/05/2025 22:02

I agree Emerald, I thought it was muggy today too.

My grass is looking lovely and lush with lots of daisies and buttercups. I really don't want to mow those pretty flowers away 😩

Don't mow them - have a meadow 😊

I'm in the process of selling my house so it has to be reasonably smart. I also lose the cat and/or the birds in it which doesn't usually end well if they can't see her. When the lawn is half a cat height they stand a chance as she's not realised she needs to lower her body to the ground when hunting 😂

socks1107 · 31/05/2025 22:36

My app shows nothing but chilly days and rain for what I can see. Today has been beautiful for us and I’m ready for a bit of summer now

EmeraldRoulette · 31/05/2025 22:39

@Pixiedust1234 I have mown mum's lawn and mowed around the daisies and buttercups on occasion 😂

Otherwise, she just picks them and put them in a little vase indoors. But it's quite a small lawn.

Today was perfect in the south east I wish it would stay like this all Summer 18 degrees pleasant to sit on the balcony without getting a migraine from the heat!

justasking111 · 02/06/2025 20:32

Doozy heading our way, wind got up earlier, gone now. We're due the rain by 4am which will be heavy. It'll drift away so another dry day but windy. Ireland should be getting it about now.

It's really upset coastal fishing, big bass weekend with 45 rods caught six fish. The seals have vanished so I guess they're hungry and gone looking in deep water.

The bird song has been wonderful the last couple of weeks. Our tom tits, blackbirds, have hatched and fledged.

InMySpareTime · 03/06/2025 07:11

I’m over all the wind now, I had to take down my awning as it was stressing me out hearing 35/40mph gusts lifting it up and slamming it back down all the time.
I’d like some nice settled weather, light breezes, night rain, bright days. Not that much to ask, surely?

gingercat02 · 03/06/2025 07:48

Oh new thread (gets bikini out) thanks @GloriaSmud
We are having our April showers now really aren't we? We live in NE England but spent most of HT in NE Scotland. Very much sunshine and showers, we even had hail.
Beautifully warm in the sun, but nippy in the North sea breeze still.
Decent amount of rain so the garden is happier, especially the weeds 🥲

GloriaSmud · 03/06/2025 09:13

@gingercat02 ~ yes, we not only seem to have gone back a month or two this morning but back a season as well <looks at BBQ cover that's partially blown off 3 times already this morning!> It also isn't very warm ~ 13C here this morning.

Tomorrow is also looking a bit on the windy/breezy side, along with showers (and the showery theme continues for the rest of this week as well.) At the moment, next week is looking better but still a bit showery, especially at the start of the week but hopefully we'll get some more sun. Temperatures still about 18C but should feel warmer if we get some decent sunshine.

A good drenching earlier now the sun is playing hide and seek.

TheSalmonMousse · 03/06/2025 10:37

I was out earlier and thinking the trees look a little vulnerable in full leaf in this wind. We're down south.

Apparently one has gone down and is blocking the west coast main line.

justasking111 · 03/06/2025 13:13

We had 70 mph gusts overnight only one tree came down locally

Our visitors have gone to the zoo today. Have lent them a rucksack and waterproofs. Wales 🤣

GloriaSmud · 05/06/2025 07:03

From TheWeatherOutlook ~ possible heatwave on the way?....

(I'd say warmer weather is looking a possibility towards the end of next week, especially for the SE where temperatures could get to 24/25C for a few days, but wouldn't describe it as 'a heatwave.')

@GloriaSmud phew! That’s perfect summer temps, I’d read it could’ve been in the 30s which I was not ready for just yet!
25 will be just lovely and much welcomed here 😀

And here.

We've got Sunday to look forward to until then rain and wind

Pixiedust1234 · 07/06/2025 19:30

I've had a very soggy moggy today as she's got caught in THREE very fast, very heavy, the sky is going to fall in type rain bursts. I can honestly say she is not happy 😠 It's not that warm either.
