The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Unsettled start to June likely, but how may the rest of summer play out?

Ahead of the Netweather Summer 2025 forecast, we look at some the clues that point to how the summer may turn out after a likely unsettled start to June.

Opened up the conservatory this afternoon to tidy and vacuum after the grandchildren last night. Was hit with a wall of heat. Totally jiggered and dripping by the time I had finished.
It's very breezy so windows and back door open

🥵🥵

Definite change here tonight

no air outside, open windows and balcony door making no difference

a neighbour said he thought today was 30 but forecast said 25.

FiendsandFairies · 17/06/2025 00:18

We’re in the South East and the ten day BBC forecast is just full sun!! Bit wary of what’s to come though based on the last two years of daily rain in July and some of August (though abroad from 19th July for two weeks)…

EmeraldRoulette · 17/06/2025 00:23

@FiendsandFairies I'm in the SE - admittedly a big area - and last summer was nice.

I'm not sure about 2023 as I was ill for a chunk of it but it wasn't raining a lot round my way.

Forecast showed 35 at one point for Monday next week but it's changed now. That was a bit odd!

love your username

btw does anyone know how OYBBK is doing?

justasking111 · 17/06/2025 08:10

I'm digging out the fan today was too hot last night

Delatron · 17/06/2025 08:20

I’m in the SE too and I don’t remember last summer being good. But I guess there are different areas. The year before was good

It does tend to go downhill when the kids break up and August can be awful. So I’m pleased that even if that happens we had a very nice Spring, miost of May was nice (apart from half term) and the second half of June will be hot.

It’s a worry if the lack of rain starts to become an issue. Also, although I like the heat, in this country around 24/25 is the most comfortable- we are nuts bit designed for 30+ temperatures.

This heat and lack of rain looks set to continue until the end of June and as far as the forecast currently goes.

And some thoughts from Netweather as well.

To me, it feels like there already is a heat wave because the flats are so hot.

I'm sitting in the garden now and it's very pleasant. But the bricks are busy releasing heat inside the building - it's bonkers.

Delatron · 17/06/2025 19:06

Thanks @GloriaSmud !

It definitely felt hotter than forecast today! Agree the buildings are already holding on to heat and it’s not cooling down much overnight.

justasking111 · 17/06/2025 21:29

Last summer west of the country Wales we had a wet spring and summer. It was a wet September and October. Very depressing.

nannynick · 18/06/2025 15:13

Reached 30 degrees at 3pm today according to a local weather station. I’m too hot. I may need to look at moving north asI like it cooler.

EmeraldRoulette · 18/06/2025 17:46

It's definitely hotter than they say

I've been out at meetings all day and the windows were closed in the flat. I was expecting to come back and it be awful. But it's not. Which suggests the cool air I thought I was letting in in the morning... it's actually not making a difference. Confusing.

it will start climbing now because the sun is on my window now. But yesterday it was worse by 4 o'clock. So confusing.

Talking to people around the development, I think that when you buy a property, you really can't tell that much by the direction that it's facing. You'd have to know exactly where you were in the path of the sun to know what kind of temperatures you'd get indoors. And I mean literally exactly!

And it also depends what might be blocking the path of the sun as well.

I've just found out that a house on mum's road has air-conditioning. Mum's house is freezing so that really confused me! But they are facing a slightly different way.

Weather forecast for next week completely variable. I think the only thing they've got in common is it's not going to rain.

Gosh it’s looking hot. Thanks @GloriaSmud

I’m going to France where it’s even hotter but I’m more excited about the air con in my hotel room!! Haven’t slept well for 2 nights…

Pixiedust1234 · 19/06/2025 12:45

There may be a risk of large hail - especially across parts of the N Midlands, NE Wales and N England, frequent lightning, strong wind gusts and intense rainfall leading to flash-flooding from these storms (for Saturday).

Shock
GloriaSmud · 19/06/2025 14:14

Ooo nice @Delatron! It's looking 'toasty' (understatement!) in France for next week ~ I think I'd probably set up camp in the hotel room!

The temperature the metoffice are forecasting for us for Saturday, seems to be playing a version of 'Play your Cards Right' at the moment. We started a few days ago at 29C and it seems to have risen a degree or so each day and we're now at 33C. I don't think it'll go above that (and I hope it doesn't as 32/33C is about my limit!)

Yeah I’m in a city too so it will be tricky! It’s a very fleeting visit for an evening outdoor event so hopefully it will cool down a little and I can head back to my aircon. At least I will be able to sleep….!

EmeraldRoulette · 19/06/2025 21:12

How's everyone doing?

Mum had a funny turn today. I gave her a rehydration sachet and I hope that's done the trick. That's assuming it's heat related, which at her age it may not be.

justasking111 · 19/06/2025 21:26

DIL and friend walked across to Conwy this morning and back. We sat under a big umbrella this afternoon, the breeze vanished, the children went inside after playing with water for half an hour.. DIL felt quite nauseous as did I after a bit even in the shade . I think you acclimatise or heat abroad is less humid. But I was glad to get home. Although now the breeze has gone the house and feels uncomfortably warm even the north side which never sees the sun.

Oh I hope she’s ok.

DS1 has just gone to sleep in the garage! He’s in the attic room and even with a fan it’s stifling up there. I may well be downstairs on the sofa as it’s so hot with no air in our room.

Looking forward to my aircon hotel room on Sat and then a cool down next week. If it could hover around 24/25 I’d be happy.

EmeraldRoulette · 19/06/2025 22:03

@Delatron thank you

interesting to hear how it's affecting others, seems a safe bet it was too much for her. Hopefully she'll be better in the morning. She did perk up after the sachet and ate some dinner.

Delatron · 19/06/2025 22:08

Hydration is so important in this weather and sometimes the elderly aren’t brilliant at remembering that. Electrolytes/ rehydration sachets are much better than plain water too. I’m pleased she perked up!
