The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Unsettled start to June likely, but how may the rest of summer play out?

Ahead of the Netweather Summer 2025 forecast, we look at some the clues that point to how the summer may turn out after a likely unsettled start to June.

Thanks @GloriaSmud I was hoping for a father's Day BBQ this Sunday in north Manchester, I'll keep a look out for your updates 🤞🏼🌞

No idea what's happening with this weather. I actually woke up last night shivering and had to get an extra blanket out 😱

and pulling a plume of very warm air north from Iberia - where is very hot today in the south of Spain.
As much as I like warmer weather, yikes!

justasking111 · 09/06/2025 23:06

With strong westerlies we're not going to rise above 18c they're saying. Which is comfortable. I'd gone back into winter sweaters the last few days. Also cold in bed last night.

TheSalmonMousse · 10/06/2025 06:45

I keeping reminding myself that the cooler, damp weather is better for the farmers and exam season.

GloriaSmud · 10/06/2025 07:04

Yes justasking111, it looks like Wales and the north of England/Scotland will stay on the cooler side of things. The midlands southwards could see the upper 20s (maybe hitting 30C in the SE at times), from this weekend onwards and into next week.

It’s chilly here in London today. I’m in a jacket again. Is the warm weather due this week - apps ( I know not reliable) say 23 ish all week

Its the nor westerlies I'm afraid. You're still not clear of them.

I'm back in a blouse today, all windows and back door open.

I am usually ok with this weather. Just I’ve lost weight and bought lovely new summer clothes I want to wear 😂

Looks clear here. I'll keep my eyes open

RainbowZebraWarrior · 11/06/2025 14:53

Moonrise isn't until 22.58 here so I'll likely be asleep by then. Sending good luck and clear skies for anyone who does spot it though.

EmeraldRoulette · 11/06/2025 23:16

i'm always baffled by the trajectory of the moon

I can't see it from the garden
I can't see it from the front

Last time this happened, I had to walk out into the main road - I live on a development that's quite tucked away - and then it wasn't where I was expecting to see it. So confusing.

There are times in winter that it can be seen from the garden, but I gather summer is a whole other trajectory. Also lots of tall trees here. Too tired to go searching for it tonight.

justasking111 · 11/06/2025 23:55

South east direction it's low in the sky we're halfway down a hill and our neighbours trees are tall and dense. Dang nabbit

EmeraldRoulette · 12/06/2025 00:03

@justasking111 it's lovely living here with winding roads and tall trees

But it did mean I would need to go wandering quite far along the road to find it. I thought I was too tired but here I am still scrolling online. 😂

GloriaSmud · 12/06/2025 06:42

EmeraldRoulette 😆
I went out about 10pm to have a look but the moon must have been really low in the sky and behind houses at that point so I couldn't see it...and then I forgot to look again! 🙄

I spotted a glimpse of it behind my neighbour trees around midnight.

There's the possibility of thunderstorms over the next few days so the metoffice have issued some warnings.

Yep we're in the yellow. I'm glad that the old dog is deaf now.

socks1107 · 12/06/2025 21:40

I’m seeing some very hot weather being modelled for the end of next week! Really hoping that doesn’t come off it’ll be unbearable in my work - London hospital.

We are right under the thunderstorm warning for tmrw night, need to remember to get the cat in early

justasking111 · 12/06/2025 21:59

We were supposed to get thunder ⚡ today. Zilch

EmeraldRoulette · 13/06/2025 00:27

Humidity has been gathering since the afternoon. I bet we won't get a storm though.

Delatron · 13/06/2025 12:28

Ah a summer thread. Hurrah.

So it’s warmed up again! Pleased the weather waited until most of the GCSEs were over!

Look warm (SE) for the next 10 days at least? Off the find my fan. The dog hates it though!
