The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Revised weather warnings for today and tomorrow, including an Amber warning for the East and SE England.
It's nice here (Leicester) today with quite a strong breeze. I've done a few hours at the allotment this morning but decided to come home before I started to cook!

And a thunderstorm watch from Netweather as well.

It's lovely here. I will believe storms when I see it.

I'd love a thunderstorm. Here is SE Kent on the Romney Marshes we quite often see lightning in the English Channel but it rarely comes inland. Do we think there is a high chance of it actually reaching us tonight?

Looking at the animation on the Netweather radar, that big storm looks like it's heading for the SE coast (and sort of matches with the timing of the metoffice weather warning as well.) There's another one coming behind and that one looks like it could be heading more towards Portsmouth.

Oppressive here (Bedfordshire) but it is very still and doesn't smell of rain yet.

My ears just popped as I was writing that last sentence.

It's been an amazing day here (NE England coast) and I have been at work all day. I don't normally work Friday afternoon 😪

Sitting in the car park at Dungeness waiting for Ds2 scouts and it looks forbidding out at sea. It's muggy but there is a slight breeze and a few spits and spots of rain.

Quite glad I don't live west of Paris. That storm has been going on for almost two hours now.

Anyone recommend a good webcam showing it? I found Pevensey on the cam secure site, can see the flashing at sea, looks really impressive!

Looks like any storms plan to just stay in the sea!

@justasking111 - I’ve been watching that one too. I’m a bit further up the coast, had a few rumbles and some lightning, but nothing major. Have got 2 new-ish cats, so wanted to keep an eye on things as not sure how they’ll react.

Am glad I’m not in that pocket of activity!

Just got a northern lights alert for now. Too bright where I am to see anything though. Others may have more luck.
