The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Unsettled start to June likely, but how may the rest of summer play out?

Ahead of the Netweather Summer 2025 forecast, we look at some the clues that point to how the summer may turn out after a likely unsettled start to June.

North west Wales. Great now the wind has swung round to the NW we've got a breeze too.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 14/08/2025 12:54

Lucky you! Please send some to Oxfordshire, we're gasping!

justasking111 · 14/08/2025 13:30

We're east of the Snowdonia range. West of it down Pwllheli peninsula family just sent pictures of glorious sunshine on the beach. It's very localised.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 14/08/2025 15:12

I'll take localised as long as we get some here. Dry as a bone here, it is.

gingercat02 · 14/08/2025 17:01

It's baking in the NE I'm more sweaty today tackling my garden jungle than I was in Croatia. Even the brisk wind isn't helping, but it is getting my holiday washing dry.

Justmuddlingalong · 14/08/2025 18:09

It's been thundering with lightning for over an hour here in Fife. Had hailstones the size of grapes pinging off the windows.
It seems to be moving off now, but it's been very impressive. Feels a bit cooler now, thankfully.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 14/08/2025 18:12

You've got loads!

Hopefully it's going to cool down by tomorrow as I'm really not used to this. 25/26 degrees and so humid. Outside is quite breezy now as you say, but my bungalow is like an oven. We went for a walk late last night over local farmland (Murton) and watched the sunset which was lovely, but I don't have the energy tonight.

Another one desperate for the arrival of autumn here. This summer has gone on forever.

Anyone know if we are done with heatwaves now?! Or if more are likely?

greencartbluecart · 16/08/2025 15:56

Lovely day here up north - can sit outside read without burning or melting

EducatingArti · 16/08/2025 17:21

I'm still enjoying it. Currently camping/ sea dipping on the N Wales coast!

Enjoy. It's not too hot here quite chilly this morning which was lovely, my lot have been paddle boarding on the lake this afternoon.

GloriaSmud · 18/08/2025 07:04

I've just spent a few days on a narrowboat where the water situation is getting a bit desperate (hopefully picture posts ~ water level is usually up to where the vegetation is) and BBC article ~ Water shortage could close county's canals

Looks like another dry week with about average temperatures for the north and Scotland but low-mid-20s for the midlands/south and Wales. Next week, possibility of some rain?

Cool and grey here for back to work post holiday 😪 looks similar for the rest of the week, with maybe a little more sun towards the weekend. No significant rain

Yes I've just stepped outside and was surprised at how cool it is. And grey misty / drizzly. Feels very Autunmal in comparison to last week. I'm hoping that the pots won't br quite so parched, even though there's no significant rain forecast in the next 7 to 10 days.

GloriaSmud · 20/08/2025 06:59

It looks like we've had quite a good shower of rain overnight here ~ ground is properly wet with puddles as well!
It also looks like change is on the way for next week ~ the Bank Holiday is ok but after that, it's looking a bit more unsettled....thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

Raining here this morning and a cool feeling. Really feels like summer is done but maybe we’ll get a few more days in September?

InMySpareTime · 20/08/2025 08:53

There’s usually a decent warm spell the second the kids are back at school.

Delatron · 20/08/2025 09:17

Does feel like summer is over! Much cooler here. I guess it was a long and warm summer that started nice and early so we shouldn’t complain. But I’m not quite ready yet!

I know we need rain. I’d be happy for
a week of rain then back to mid 20s and sun!

We do normally get a nice spell in September but it’s not quite the same.

justasking111 · 20/08/2025 10:03

I slept so well last night because it was cooler. I'll take that gratefully.

blobby10 · 20/08/2025 11:40

I’m on holiday in Cornwall and the past two days have been drizzly but very localised - still warm but it’s been SO windy! Wind has dropped now and cloud forecast all day but it’s glorious sunshine !! Trying to decide whether to take the dog for a walk or to the beach for a couple of hours😊😊

anon199900 · 25/08/2025 13:44

It’s 27 degrees and blazing in the north west.. everywhere is so parched! We just got back from two weeks in the Algarve and today’s heat feels worse than the 36 degree heat out there!!
