The start of meteorological Summer 2025 (1st June)

This weekend sees the start of meteorological summer.
Netweather haven't got their summer forecast yet but have some thoughts here on what sort of summer we might expect.

TheWeatherOutlook published their summer forecast a few weeks ago.

(I think that although we've had a dry spring, it'll be a 'mixed' summer of dry/warm (maybe hot days), mixed in with wet days. So we'll see......)

Unsettled start to June likely, but how may the rest of summer play out?

Ahead of the Netweather Summer 2025 forecast, we look at some the clues that point to how the summer may turn out after a likely unsettled start to June.

22c in the hall just now and we're in the coolest area in Wales. My DIL reminded me of the flat she lived in before she met my son, cosy in winter stifling in summer. We're in a dormer bungalow sleep downstairs. Sons room upstairs gets too hot in the summer, faces South.

InMySpareTime · 20/06/2025 06:02

One advantage of waking up outrageously early is that I’ve opened all the windows and let a cool morning breeze through the house before the sun’s on it.
DS is in an attic room in a student HMO, it’s hotter than the sun uk there so we’ve offered him sanctuary here until it cools down. After tonight he might just take us up on it. He can’t wait until he moves into a proper grownup air conditioned flat in a few weeks time though.

summersun25 · 20/06/2025 08:23

Forecast to be 28 here today.. with no sun. I mean if I’m going to melt, I want some sun with it! It’s just grey and depressing

It’s certainly warm this morning! I went and had a swim after work last so got the train out of London on a less packed service and it was an aircon train so I was very happy with my choice.
we too have a loft room but I slept well
last night despite having a job interview this morning so I must have needed it.

looking forward to a few cooler days

justasking111 · 20/06/2025 15:27

Completely overcast here. Clammy

beenrumbled · 21/06/2025 12:40

Couple of very short showers here so far. Ground dried up quickly. Very grey and humid. And unpleasant.

justasking111 · 21/06/2025 13:09

DH went for a bike ride this morning, got drenched weather moving faster than forecast.

gingercat02 · 21/06/2025 13:33

Weather is about to break here. Full cloud cover and a stiff breeze.
Friend in Lancaster reported heavy rain this morning

GloriaSmud · 21/06/2025 14:26

Haven't had much sun here today and it keeps 'attempting' to rain but then stops. The overcast skies makes it quite a humid 28C but at least there's a nice breeze.

We seem to have missed the heavy showers and have had a series of shorter lighter ones that didn't really wet or cool anything. The cats are melting but did enjoy the tuna ice cubes I made last night.

EmeraldRoulette · 21/06/2025 21:26

Thank you @GloriaSmud mum is better but still struggling a bit

It is really hot and humid here in Essex though. No sign of a thundery breakdown for us. I woke up at about nine - I'm a late person - opened the balcony door and hot air came in!

i've been with mum all day and her house is definitely cooler than my flat. I'm struggling to get her to eat - but she is taking those rehydration sachets. I think one a day is probably enough when you are a tiny 86-year-old.

She actually did a bit of cooking though. I was going to do it but she perked up enough to do that. Although it may have been the thought of my cooking scared her.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 21/06/2025 21:31

We have dark skies, thunder and torrential rain here on the NE coast of England right now but it looks short lived. It still feels like an oven in my house so I hope we can sleep tonight. We usually take ice packs and pop them in our pillow cases. Good luck to all suffering the same or similar.

EmeraldRoulette · 21/06/2025 21:44

I don't think the flat will get below 27 tonight.

The weather forecast for next week is again pretty wildly different depending on where you look. I've got to go into London on one day and I'll choose the least hot. But at the moment there is no reliable information about which one that might be.

justasking111 · 21/06/2025 22:25

Well we were promised thunder ⚡ but it swerved us again. So it's close again now. I'm going to put the fan back on. 🥵

Same, I feel like I’m in an oven (NW)

beenrumbled · 22/06/2025 07:52

Sane here in the NW @justasking111 we had a high chance of storms and we got nothing. Last night was the worst yet for sleeping. I'm officially done. And apparently grumpy.

Lovely breeze this morning, much cooler, black clouds to the west we're not forecast rain though.

socks1107 · 22/06/2025 09:55

Seems cooler today in the SE but still warm enough.

GloriaSmud · 22/06/2025 10:01

Glad your Mum is feeling a little better EmeraldRoulette.

The coming few days look a bit more unsettled so hopefully we'll all get some rain at times during the week. It's still looking rather warm for the midlands southwards though ~ the SE could see a 28 or 29C on some days but mid 20s also seem to be mixed in as well according the GFS.

Just popping on here to say we on the south Kent coast had a very nasty squall come through the Channel around 4.30am, the rain was so sudden and torrential it woke us up and was followed by some thunder and lightning. It was on and off for an hour or two and cleared away by about 7am and the air here is much much fresher now. It's a pleasant 25° with a fresh breeze rather than humid stickiness.

Long may this last and I hope the rest of the country is following suit.

EmeraldRoulette · 22/06/2025 14:27

@GloriaSmud thank you

Yes, I see a very spiky temperature profile for next week.

@Pascha I was actually awake and looking at the lightning map in hope. Nothing here. We had fresh air this morning but it's gone back to kind of being hot wind now.

justasking111 · 22/06/2025 14:52

We had a squall. Come through a couple of hours ago. Quiet again now, but much cooler.

GloriaSmud · 23/06/2025 07:59

We had 'proper' rain last night ~ absolutely chucked it down between midnight and 1am. No watering needed at the allotment today!

More chance of rain this week but still warm for the south/SE.
Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

We haven't had proper rain for ages

The forecast is really alarming. 34 for Monday (Essex). When I think about it in Fahrenheit, it's not that bad. But the trouble is, it's 26 in my flat and the sun hasn't even come round to this side yet.
