Saturday (1st March) is the start of Spring and for the beginning for the season, it’s looking quiet with some settled spells but chilly nights.

Some thoughts from Netweather….

Little dribble of rain in a thunderstorm yesterday - today back to bright and breezy, v warm by this afternoon.

AlwaysFreezing · 15/05/2025 09:05

I'm weather watching because we have a huge garden party planned in the west midlands for Saturday 24th May. We just need it to be dry! What are the chances???

RainbowZebraWarrior · 15/05/2025 09:29

It feels bitterly cold here today on the NE coast of England today. Grey and a rather unpleasant northerly wind.

We have rain forecast from 23rd here until Wednesday 28th as has much of England I think @AlwaysFreezing but fingers crossed that might change as its still over a week away.

AlwaysFreezing · 15/05/2025 09:35

Tha is @RainbowZebraWarrior this is what I'm worried about! Typical! Trying not obsessively check the forecasts.

gingercat02 · 15/05/2025 10:46

Yep sods law @RainbowZebraWarrior
Half term=rain. We're going to NE Scotland for a few days so some 🌞 would be nice.

GloriaSmud · 16/05/2025 07:51

It looks like from Thursday, the weather starts to go downhill (and yes, just in time for half term and your party, AlwaysFreezing!)

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook.

DH goes into hospital for hand surgery on 23rd. I'm kinda glad that the weather will be bad because he can't go fishing etc for a bit. I am sorry that the grandkids won't have this weather during the school break.

Sinkintotheswamp · 16/05/2025 09:18

I'm frantically, but carefully, watering my veg and sunflowers to get them big enough to survive the slugs when they appear once the rain returns. I'll be "friend of the birds" this winter if I can get some giant flower heads.

I know he's an idiot but Jeremy Clarkson showed one of his fields that isn't growing at all. The half term rain will be essential, as long as it's not torrential and creates another problem.....

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 16/05/2025 09:21

I work near to Clarkson's place and the fields all look terrible, really patchy and not much growing at all.

I see the fields, looks like dust and nothing sprouting.

Seymourscat · 17/05/2025 22:23

Is it right that a long hot summer is predicted? I hope not.

socks1107 · 18/05/2025 09:22

@Seymourscat I keep seeing this talked about too

GloriaSmud · 19/05/2025 07:26

The Metoffice have their 3 month outlook here ~ looks like they're going for a warmer and slightly wetter than average summer....

We should be getting some rain this week (might be a few thundery showers today) but it's looking unsettled from the weekend onwards (just in time for the Bank Holiday/1/2 term....🙄)

They had rain in Anglesey this morning. We're on the other side of the mountain range so escaped it. But dang the wind was cold this morning when I went out. We have cloud cover now so things are beginning to shift. The sea is rougher too.

Poor grandchildren after a rubbish half term and Easter I was hoping for good weather for them next week 😢

Hedjwitch · 19/05/2025 21:44

It has been utterly glorious here in Central Scotland for weeks.
Hope we are in for a decent summer after last year's wash out

Just reading Scotland had an exceptionally dry winter and spring so your reservoirs maybe lower than expected. Kielder water is,15% below normal levels.

We need rain for the salmon to start running up the rivers to breed. We've already had the algae bloom on the sea it was like soup last week as it surfaced and died which has pushed the fish into deep water.

The ground is hard and cracking in clay areas. If we get too much rain to start with it's just going to run off as surface water with all the problems that brings us

EmeraldRoulette · 20/05/2025 21:55

Today was another lovely sunny day in Essex

The weather forecast has been a bit odd for the last few days, but it does depend on which one you're looking at.

I think there is a tiny bit of rain predicted for tomorrow, but I doubt it will happen.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 21/05/2025 07:47

We had 1.6mm overnight. A start...

Thanks @GloriaSmud we do need the rain. Shame it’s at half term but we are stuck in revising (well DC are) so never mind.

Looks to be warming up right at the end of May next weekend? I’m hoping we don’t actually have a heatwave at the beginning of June for the rest of the GCSEs as DS’s room gets so hot and he can’t sleep. I guess too early to tell for sure. If it stays around 23 degrees that’s fine but high 20s will be a struggle.

GloriaSmud · 23/05/2025 07:40

@Delatron ~ it does look like it warms up again (especially for the S/SE) later next week. As you say, it's too early to tell but at the moment, the beginning of June looks like there's some heat but it's interspersed with showery episodes.

I've just discovered that it's been so chilly overnight, our heating has come on! Shock

I find that a fan helps my son his loft room gets too hot so I went to Argos. Now he's left home it's mine 😁
