Saturday (1st March) is the start of Spring and for the beginning for the season, it’s looking quiet with some settled spells but chilly nights.

Some thoughts from Netweather….

It's the first time Ive ever seen dry, cracked earth in my garden this early in the year, normally, it's late June when lack of rain becomes a problem. I'm also having hedging plants die, which is a first - 6 so far this year already.

The hedging plants here didn't like that extended freezing spell a lot of dead wood. You'll need to cut it back hard then it should recover. DH slung four buckets of water onto the weeping willow we put in last year because it's dropping leaves. He's also watering the plum trees.

Still can’t see any rain on the forecast- slight chance on Monday. Quite worrying. I’m predicted an early hosepipe ban. If you think of the amount of rain we normally have through April.

Seymourscat · 09/05/2025 06:37

No rain predicted in next 10 days. I don’t like it. Adds to my climate anxiety.

CrewOfTheRevenge · 09/05/2025 09:18

Lots of warnings for torrential rain/thunderstorms for south west on Sunday and Monday

Delatron · 09/05/2025 09:40

I think there are some thunder storms forecast in some areas for the end of the week. Whether these will be localised? Or provide some top up of rain. But next week looks dry again.

Not such good weather for Europe

No rain forecast here on the NE coast of England till 21st May. My soil is like dust and there's going to be little point in planting out my bedding plants, as even with mulching and watering it's just going to be hard work getting them in. So they remain on my potting bench and in the conservatory. Some have been put in pots, but I'm already tiring of the 3 x a day watering schedule of said pots. I can't remember the last time we had a hosepipe ban here as we have Kielder reservoir, but it's going to be interesting as we go into June. It's got to break sooner or later. It feels like high summer here. I'm sitting out in the back and it reminds me of the endless summer days my Mum sat out in 1976 (while I was in my room with the curtains shut as I had measles!)

Seymourscat · 09/05/2025 11:41

It will probably rain from
June to December 😆

justasking111 · 09/05/2025 14:03

We've four tomatoes on the plant in the conservatory. The greenhouse tomatoes are a month behind says my garden wizard.

MotherOfCatBoy · 09/05/2025 16:02

Thunder forecast here for Sunday. I’ll be getting a load of buckets out in the garden to store some of the water!

Thanks @GloriaSmud and gosh such a long time without rain.

GloriaSmud · 10/05/2025 07:37

It is @Delatron
Thoughts from the metoffice as well ~ although they think there's an increasing chance of rain in a few weeks time....

Wednesday, 14th-Friday, 23rd May
Dry, fine, and largely sunny conditions are most likely for the vast majority of the UK for at least the first week of this period (Wednesday until Sunday), as an area of high pressure builds to the north of the UK before settling right across the country and becoming slow moving. This could stay in place right through the period, however beyond the first week there is an increasingly likelihood that conditions could turn wetter and more unsettled as areas of rain, stronger winds, and possibly thunderstorms begin to approach from the west and/or south. Winds will mostly be light otherwise, with daytime temperatures generally above average throughout although there is a chance of some chilly nights in places.

We are just about in the warning range for thunderstorms tomorrow

The weather forecasts I look at are quite contradictory even just for the next couple of days. I've got some choices about how I plan my week so I would've based it round the weather ..but which one would I choose? 😂

MotherOfCatBoy · 12/05/2025 06:21

We had thunder forecast yesterday, but nothing arrived. My parents had a shower for half an hour, they’re up nearer the Beacons and we’re on the coast. Hasn’t rained in the night either.
This time last year I was praying for it to STOP raining!

Sinkintotheswamp · 12/05/2025 06:50

We had a quick downpour overnight in North Hampshire. It wasn't forecast even when I checked the Met Office late evening.

InMySpareTime · 12/05/2025 07:03

We had a couple of light showers, I’ve opened the back door just to smell the petrichor. I didn’t know I missed the smell until I smelled it.

Delatron · 12/05/2025 07:04

Yeah looks like we had a heavy downpour in Bucks. Didn’t hear any thunder.

justasking111 · 12/05/2025 07:07

Grey morning but zilch aqua 😭

Delatron · 12/05/2025 07:09

Just checked forecast and no more rain on the horizon here for the next 10 days at least..

Yeah I’m finding the temperatures are looking different depending on what forecast you look at. I have an outdoor event later in the week which needs an outfit plan. I find the difference between 18/19 degrees and 22/23 is quite significant when planning an outfit!

socks1107 · 12/05/2025 08:20

We are not due any rain for the foreseeable in the south east. It’s absolutely lovely to be enjoying this weather but concerning at the same time.
looked at the summer long range forecast and seems the general theme is warm and dry ( that’s how I interpret it) could be nice but also temps like 2022 are horrible especially at work!

gingercat02 · 12/05/2025 08:25

We have just had a tiny shower of rain 🌧 only enough to tease the plants.

Yes we had that, too during the school run. Annoyingly, only enough raindrops to make the car windscreen streaky.
