Saturday (1st March) is the start of Spring and for the beginning for the season, it’s looking quiet with some settled spells but chilly nights.

Some thoughts from Netweather….

We had just enough rain recently to get my seedlings germinating and refill the water butts, I’m ready for another spell of warmth and blue skies.

Yep - the garden definitely needed a good deluge. Then back to warm. If this could continue (the odd overnight rain - then back to warmth and sun ) I’d be very happy. It’s so unusual for this country.

andtheworldrollson · 25/04/2025 13:20

I don’t find it nice - I find it scary . So little rain.

gingercat02 · 25/04/2025 13:30

Absolutely @andtheworldrollson no April showers here, even though it's not been overly warm, my garden is suffering already. I'm not keen to water yet

Delatron · 25/04/2025 13:37

It’s unusual for sure but for years we had flooding and endless rain. It rained very heavily here a few days ago so my garden is happy.

I think we’re just not used to it being so settled. As long as it rains from time to time (which it will) it’s fine.

If we have a prolonged drought early in the year then that will be a worry but I’m not going to moan about a week or so of settled and dry weather in this god forsaken country.

gingercat02 · 25/04/2025 13:41

In NE England we have had no significant rain for a few weeks, there were a couple of spells of light rain last week but there is only about 2cm in my water butt

Delatron · 25/04/2025 13:47

That is unusual. We had a lot of rain in the SE on Wednesday. Hopefully there will be some up North soon.

EmeraldRoulette · 25/04/2025 22:28

Rumours abound of 22/24c in Essex next week! Wonder if true and how long it will last. They're also saying the week after will be crap but do they really know this far ahead?

Delatron · 26/04/2025 09:22

BBC weather (not the best) are saying 26 for us here in Bucks next Wednesday. We’ll see. I don’t think they can predict too far ahead for the following week other than that maybe temperatures will go back to normal for the time of year.

Looks to be lovely and warm from Mon- Fri next week. Then it cools down and then uncertainty for the following week.

EmeraldRoulette · 26/04/2025 16:57

@Delatron thanks

I don't find BBC or Met Office useful

but let's hope for a bit of sun before the spraying experiments begin!

heldinadream · 27/04/2025 16:28

South West here. It's been baking hot all day, my washing was almost dry within an hour or two of putting it out, and there's almost no rain predicted for the whole of the following week. I'm seriously worried that it's shaping up to be another year of droughts and fires.

Delatron · 27/04/2025 17:03

I agree that whilst it’s lovely - that lack of rain on the forecast for the next ten days at least is a worry. I think it’s set to become cooler next week so maybe that will bring in a change.

justasking111 · 27/04/2025 22:00

North Wales, was sunny but a cold wind. Great for drying the washing. Not so great for sitting out in a cold wind.

We've had a fair bit of rain this week.

GloriaSmud · 28/04/2025 06:38

Looks like a taste of summer for most of the country this week, with most of the country hitting 20-22C at times and London/the SE possibly hitting 24C or 25C by the middle of the week, before cooling down next weekend.

(We've just spent a week up in Yorkshire and had brilliant weather! My neighbour told me yesterday that where we are (Leicester), had awful weather most of the week we were away, with rain and wind most of the time.)

Yorkshire has been lovely my son said warmer than here. We're not going to be as warm this week 16c max predicted. But I'll take it. 😁

gingercat02 · 28/04/2025 09:20

I'm not convinced about a hot week in the north either. 14 here this morning but lovely and sunny

GloriaSmud · 29/04/2025 07:33

Metoffice are saying 27C for us, for Thursday. I think it's going to be warm (more low 20s/maybe 23-24C) but not that warm!

I’ve got to go to London on Thursday so for once I would not like it to be 27 degrees!

justasking111 · 29/04/2025 15:35

Finally sat on the decking at 3pm it's so lovely to sit here feeling warm. I'm exposing a lot of flesh this afternoon hoping my old bones will appreciate it.

Delatron ~ London and the SE could get rather hot on Thursday. Possibility of thunderstorms to come later in the day though.

Thanks Gloria - eek! Looking even hotter for Thursday now. And we’re not really used to it are we? Yesterday felt much warmer than 22 to me.

Kind of hoping we do get a good thunderstorm at some point. We need the rain. The rain I saw forecast for next week has disappeared. I know it’s cooling down but the odd shower would help. It’s been very dry.

gingercat02 · 30/04/2025 07:39

I know @Delatron all this dry weather in early spring is worrying for the summer. In April I'm often hanging my washing out in wellies as the garden is so wet. This year my water butt is dry. There is no rain forecast here (NE England) until 13 May!

justasking111 · 30/04/2025 08:37

Dogs were sluggish yesterday they don't like the heat suddenly increasing like this. The scents in the garden last evening wafting around are so unusual this early in the year.

Pixiedust1234 · 30/04/2025 09:33

It definitely feels hotter than 22C here and I'm not liking it. Partly due to swollen ankles already and partly due to menopausal hot flushing, or maybe I'm just a grumpy old woman (likely).

I've noticed my bluebells are all out and they don't usually appear until the end of May. The scent is lovely though.

GloriaSmud · 30/04/2025 16:53

Ah yes swollen ankles ~ a sign that hot weather's here for me too! 😒
Spent an hour or two at the allotment this morning (before deciding that I'd had enough of being roasted!) and there's a lot of watering going on at the moment.
