Not quite January yet, but the weather warnings continue. Generally a mild outlook to come, though of course parts of Scotland will see more wintry weather on and off.

Oh, and it's rapidly turning to black ice on the drive and patio.

cheshirecatssmile · 18/01/2023 08:31

3" at my part of my estate .
Got to work about half "
No gritters

middleager · 18/01/2023 08:46

It's snowed here in the West Midlands. Just had another flurry.

BiddyPop · 18/01/2023 08:56

Lots of snowy pictures from Donegal but we just have bitterly cold and dry in Dublin. Great sunshine (DH had a shower at lunch yesterday as so much solar the hot tank had reached max temp already!, and lots more expected today). Car was +1.5 degrees this morning, same as yesterday - whereas it was -4 in Dundalk yesterday morning.

TokyoSushi · 18/01/2023 10:00

Frozen hail that looks like snow here in Cheshire, it'll do!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2023 11:03

Looks like right down the western side of the UK there will be continued snow showers, falling as rain, sleet or hail in places. Lots of icy conditions to continue.

Sprinkling of snow here in Gloucestershire now melting.

Ooh, you’ve had graupel, I love that stuff!

Heavy frost here this morning (NE Essex). Bright blue sky and frost not disappearing. Got to take mum to an hospital appointment, am hoping the roads are gritted.

crosspusscrossstitcher · 18/01/2023 11:15

Blue skies in my bit of Cheshire. I may have underestimated the snow, there was over an inch on the shed roof and the cars (according to DH) in my defence it was mostly dark when I made my guesstimate. Grin

Lots of birds in the garden today - they're very hungry.

TokyoSushi · 18/01/2023 16:02

I've never heard of graupel @Furries but just googled it, and yes, that's what we've had!

justasking111 · 18/01/2023 16:28

Have to giggle everytime I see the name @Furries after the IKEA incident 😃

crosspusscrossstitcher · 18/01/2023 18:14

I had a close call earlier.
The birds were running out of food, so I went thru the conservatory to feed them. Their food is stored in there in winter, as it's cooler.
I'd just got back in and shut the door - and I'm not a "slammer", I'm a careful closer - when all the melted snow/ice from the roof slid off like a mini avalanche. Shock
That would have been rather chilly. ⛄

Ha, glad to be of service! It’s not often I know much about weather, but have had it a fair few times where I am, so fell down a google rabbit-hole a while ago.

To be honest, it sounds more like a warming drink you’d have after being on the slopes - not that I’ve ever been skiing, it’s not my idea of fun.

Don’t! I saw that thread. I’ve only been to that store once and it was over 20 years ago, no masks or leashes involved 🤣

I became aware of the alternative meaning a couple of years ago. And there have been a couple of occasions where I’ve thought maybe I should change my username!

Woke up to more snow in Cheshire

TokyoSushi · 19/01/2023 06:41

A covering in my part of Cheshire too, not loads, but enough to turn everything white!

InMySpareTime · 19/01/2023 07:03

Rubbish photo, but decent snow in my end of Manchester too. A rare treat to wake up to.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 19/01/2023 07:11

Ooooh yes, @InMySpareTime that looks lovely! We have very thick frost, that almost looks like a very thin layer of snow, and on my walk to the bus stop this morning it was twinkling and sparkling in the street lights and looked really pretty. And because the pavements weren't wet, it's not icy, which is a win!

beenrumbled · 19/01/2023 07:13

@InMySpareTime you have more than my corner of Tameside! We have a very light dusting but everying is frozen solid.

InMySpareTime · 19/01/2023 08:50

Even more snow now! Big floaty flakes and no wind, so it's making little snow piles on all the twigs.

InMySpareTime · 19/01/2023 08:51

That snow looks gorgeous!

Freezing fog is going to be an issue for the next couple of days/morning. Keep an eye out on temperatures and if it's below freezing and foggy, be prepared for glazed surfaces.

We seem to be in a pattern now that holds atlantic weather at bay. A welcome respite from rain, but remaining cold/chilly for now.

OP posts:
nomdegrrr1 · 21/01/2023 23:48

It's been odd here in West Yorkshire. Normally fog is there in the morning but fades during the day. Today there wasn't that much to start with and it's got worse.

Because the path outside our house has been dry, it's not been so slippery but with the fog it's now like an ice rink.

I do not approve of all this cold weather
