Another storm and there is an Amber warning at the moment for Northern Ireland but I think there should be one for Cumbria/Lancashire as well, looking at the wind charts for tomorrow.

sounds ominous furries

it is really loud here and gustier feeling than Friday. maybe the direction is different.

MrsFezziwig · 21/02/2022 01:14

Worst day here (South Yorkshire). We had the car wash effect twice in the afternoon. The local council posted on FB that there had been less rain than forecasted and flood warnings were not expected. Shortly followed by five flood alerts & videos of the Don overflowing its banks in various places. Local people are not happy!

Smokeahontas · 21/02/2022 01:17

This is way worse than Friday. I’m beside myself with worry about a tree out my front.

Wednesdayafternoon · 21/02/2022 01:22

I'm in Lancaster are and I have never heard winds be so strong and so constant like this. I'm actually worried about our power going off and me having to go into office tomorrow!

I also work in home insurance and let me tell yl, I am NOT looking forward to work tomorrow!!!!!

Furries · 21/02/2022 01:25

That squall earlier was crazy. And the water levels I’m reading about with various rivers is worrying. Must be gutting after Eunice didn’t cause flooding to have this system arrive so quickly.

My comment re it being quiet and still was short lived - can now hear a few gusts down the chimney. Half my fencing went Friday, fully expecting the rest to go tomorrow. God knows how long many will have to wait for new fencing to go up - am sure there will be stock issues, plus tradespeople busy with the aftermath.

Blimey, that sounds bad. Hope you’re doing ok.

It's picking up even more now, as we head into the worst part (if the forecast is to be believed). The noise is something else; really ominous.

Our house is sheltered from it somewhat, as it's coming from the west, which is the side our neighbours are attached to and the rest of the street is beyond them. I think I'd be out of my mind if we had a different aspect.

Our street does feel like a wind tunnel, mind you. Hideous.

My son is really scared by it as well; I would've been too at his age. Thankfully he's managing to sleep for now.

RedToothBrush · 21/02/2022 04:12

The storm has woken me. Never heard anything like it. To the point that ive actually had to get out of bed and check whats going on outside.

Dreading seeing whats left tomorrow. If you get caught out in this tonight in inappropriate clothing the risk of hypothermia is huge. And i suspect lots will be having rude awakening

Roughly where are you in the UK? It hasn’t hit here yet (Essex). From all the posts above, it definitely doesn’t sound like a yellow warning suffices.
TheCumbrian · 21/02/2022 04:26

It's so loud here it's woken me up. I've never heard anything like it. I'm dreading daylight.

RedToothBrush · 21/02/2022 04:28

Im in the NW not far from Manchester.

Its definitely the worst storm we've had here.

The wind is stronger than Dudley and Eunice and the rain is adding to the delight.

Its awful

Faithtrusts · 21/02/2022 04:31

North west here too, near Liverpool. It's just an awful, been awake since 2.30, it's just getting worse.

Feels like yellow warning was a bit of a joke, it's worst one so far.

Sounds horrendous. And is definitely sounding like the categorisation is wrong for certain areas.

It's been persistent since 2am yesterday and worsening since last night. I'm genuinely anxious about it now, and the worst is about to hit with 70mph+ winds.

It's the bloody noise; I've never heard anything like it, not as a constant. It feels like there's been no let up at all.

I can't believe we're still on yellow warning when Eunice was over relatively quickly and not as bad, but was amber.

I can't tell if it's raining and I'm not getting up to check! I'm hiding under the duvet (I did check on DS a few minutes ago). I'm not a happy bunny right now...

Faithtrusts · 21/02/2022 04:52

@NoWordForFluffy my dh checked at about 11 last night and said calming from 5pm. But looking on the internet and I'm with you that this isn't giving up.. the gusts are something else!

I so close to just getting up and making a cup of tea.cause lying in bed hearing the bangs and creaks is doing me no good...

NoWordForFluffy · 21/02/2022 04:57

We've just had a conversation about how bad it would be living on the prom right now! Being face on to this as it comes off the sea must be terrifying.

It's getting louder here...might join you in the tea-making!

ListenLinda · 21/02/2022 05:44

West Yorkshire here. I can’t believe how loud it is. Worse than any of the ones that have come before. The squall has left it’s impact on my middle floor landing. DS was woken by the winds but he has gone back off to sleep. No idea how DD is still asleep, she is in the attic bedroom. The River Aire burst its banks near us yesterday evening. I am so surprised that Franklin is a yellow warning.

Walkingandtalking · 21/02/2022 05:58

Near liverpool and right on the coast i honestly think this is the strongest wind ive ever seen. The whole house is creaking and the noise from the fireplaces is quite scary!

BackwardsPrawn · 21/02/2022 06:02

Midlands here and this wind is bad enough. It's woken me and I can sleep through anything. Goodness knows how bad it is for you further up the country, or for Ireland/Northern Ireland!

Way worse than Eunice was for us.

GloriaSmud · 21/02/2022 06:10

Those on the NW coast (sort of Lancashirel/Cumbria areas), I was saying yesterday at the start of the thread, that those areas needed to be under an amber wind warning as well as N Ireland. It sounds like that sort of warning was needed.

DoctorSnortles · 21/02/2022 06:26

I feel for those in the NW and Ireland. I'm in Lincolnshire and it's been horrendous all night, so god knows what it must be like with you. DD and I moved ourselves into the spare room which is on the opposite side of the house to where the wind is hitting, but the sound of the tiles rattling on the roof has still been terrible. Lots of bangs and crashes. Waiting for dawn now to see the damage. After this last week, I'm seriously thinking about moving to a less exposed house.

heidihigh · 21/02/2022 06:31

West mids here and never heard anything like this. It's awful. Yellow warning is an absolute joke. Sounds like my roof is about to blow off Sad

AlwaysLatte · 21/02/2022 06:41

Dreadful in the SE. Taking my son in to school by car today as I'm not too happy about him waiting about for a bus.

1happyhippie · 21/02/2022 06:54

It’s still wild this morning. Ive two fence panels down now, both broke.
We are cumbria and it’s definitely been stronger winds than Friday

Summersdreaming · 21/02/2022 06:56

This is way worse than Eunice! I'm in Greater Manchester and happily went to the pub on Friday afternoon, I've been up since 4am with the wind and rain, yesterday was touch and go for flooding with every river close to breaching the flood defenses. Currently 64mph gusts.
