Another storm and there is an Amber warning at the moment for Northern Ireland but I think there should be one for Cumbria/Lancashire as well, looking at the wind charts for tomorrow.

Been vile here in south yorkshire all day. Squall line was almost biblical. Seems to have calmed down a bit now but still blustery and I think still raining.

Dh has to get to Manchester tomorrow. Have told him to take the pick up rather than his car but he's in denial it's worse tha friday. Local flooding already. Town centre flooded as well as around the M1 Junction 34 which is the Meadowhall area and had fancy flood defences put in a few years ago.

sqirrelfriends · 20/02/2022 19:52

In SE and it feels much worse than Friday. I had to go out to bring in my neighbours bins and almost got knocked over by the wind.

Millionairenow · 20/02/2022 20:07

So, Gladys, just a rumour?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/02/2022 20:11

Looks like they are evacuating parts of Manchester and Yorkshire according to the BBC.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 20/02/2022 20:23

Bit worried about the trees round here, heavy snowfall yesterday has melted overnight, plus torrential rain today, add in strong winds when the ground is already saturated, might spell disaster.

beenrumbled · 20/02/2022 21:23

We are safe from flooding in my bit of Manchester, but parts of the river Mersey in the Didsbury area are under severe flood warnings.

AlternativelyWired · 20/02/2022 21:26

A few roads near here have flooded around Strines and the A555. The Goyt is rather full and Didsbury has got it bad.

RampantIvy · 20/02/2022 22:32

I'm in South Yorkshire and have seen the river Don turn into a raging torrent today. It sounded like Niagara Falls.

BonesJones · 20/02/2022 22:39

It's grim here on the Gower / Swansea. Winds, freezing, rain on and off all day. A real shocker!

whereareyousleep · 20/02/2022 22:40

I'm in South Yorkshire too the wind and rain has been awful drove home from work at 5pm and it was horrible there is and going to be so much flooding.

RampantIvy · 20/02/2022 22:42

Meadowhall was looking bad.

AtlasPine · 20/02/2022 22:49

Very gusty and wet on North London. Bins blowing about.

1happyhippie · 20/02/2022 23:01

I’m in cumbria and it’s awful here.
The rain seems to have stopped, but the wind is howling.
I hate it, I can never sleep when it’s so wild.
Supposed to get worse early hours of the morning too

Gladioli23 · 20/02/2022 23:08

Squall was crazy, not sure I have seen rain that bad before - it overwhelmed my back door sill and came into the kitchen.

Still got various friends and relations without power - have encouraged them to decamp but to no avail.

Supersimkin2 · 20/02/2022 23:14

Blustery and waterlogged in Southwest London.

RagzRebooted · 20/02/2022 23:15

We're still without power, they originally estimated 10pm but last time I checked the UK Power Networks website, they had removed the estimated time completely from our outage. Neighbouring areas say estimated time 3:30pm Wednesday! I'm hoping that's an error. We did at least get ours back for 19 hours, so we're able to get freezers back up to temperature and have baths.
Mobile signal went again for about 3 hours this evening, during the worst of the weather (not as horrific down south, but still nasty).

I'm slightly concerned about my step dad as he's on a tatty narrowboat somewhere near Manchester so probably been hit hard with the weather today. You'd think a boat would be a good place to be in a flood, but it's actually more dangerous.

AlternativelyWired · 20/02/2022 23:49

Thoughts with all those without power or being evacuated Thanks

BlackeyedSusan · 20/02/2022 23:58

@OhYouBadBadKitten

Popping in from my day out to warn that the squall line traversing the country now could carry some rather nasty winds with it. Don't be out under trees when it hits. I'd be interested in reading reports as it passes please.
oh that was what it was.

fucking loud, a big whoomp, really noisy, heavy rain, hid under the duvet so fucking useless at observations. building shaking (slightly) lights flickering. louder than friday. bloody scared.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/02/2022 00:03

kids went to respite a day late due to eunice and have just got back in franklin. we contemplated getting them back tomorrow but the winds are worse. Thankfully they left after the squall line had gone through.

RedToothBrush · 21/02/2022 00:11

I think the NW around Manchester has been hit far harder with the rain from Franklin than either Dudley or Eunice. We seemed to be on the edge of both.

Franklin has been truly appalling today. The rain really has been something else (and when someone from round these parts says that you should get the idea that its B-A-D).

I am definitely much more uneasy going to bed tonight wondering what we will wake up to tomorrow than I have all week.

RedToothBrush · 21/02/2022 00:14

I live at the top of the hill. I am fully expecting to hear of people at the bottom who have been flooded out tonight and a few of the roads nearby to be impassable.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/02/2022 00:14

good luck RTB

they are closing the park and ride by the Trent in Nottingham. They built it on the water meadows...

Me too
Howyoualldoworkme · 21/02/2022 00:26

South coast here and it's worse than Friday!

Furries · 21/02/2022 00:52

Essex here and the last hour has felt ominously quiet and still - a bit like the night before Eunice. I am NOT looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings.

Hope those without power and dealing with the results of downpours are doing as ok as possible.
