Storm Ciara forecasts and reports

First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

Arse.

Thanks.

Lailaha · 02/02/2020 17:23

It's been very blustery the last week or so. I was hoping that it had passed, but clearly not by your link. Arse. (Not you, OP, the weather Grin)

SaskiaRembrandt · 02/02/2020 17:27

Any chance of snow in Yorkshire?

colouringinpro · 02/02/2020 17:31

Any chance of snow "down south"???

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/02/2020 18:21

There's not real snow potential this week and certainly not in the south.

Maybe something in Scotland post the 8th Feb? Some possibility of some decent snow there that week.

Oh that's a shame, I've been hoping for some proper snow.

colouringinpro · 03/02/2020 10:20

So have my kids Saskia!

Warnings for Sat/Sun
Very vague at the moment simply because the system that is forecast to bring perhaps severe gales is just a twinkle in the jet streams eye at present Wink Expect them to get much more specific as we get close to the time. The potential ranges from a wind day to severe gales.

There could be some blizzard like conditions for parts of Scotland mixed in, but too early to know yet.

Another storm system is showing for next Wednesday.

sounds lovely 🙄

wonkytonkwoman · 04/02/2020 17:36

I'm in the S.E and just had the entire side of my garden fence replaced today, after the recent very severe winds!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/02/2020 08:12

Expensive!

Sunday does continue to show some potentially severe winds - exactly where though? Unknown! I think gales everywhere, but with some areas seeing severe gales, including the usual squeeze along south coasts.

The next potential after that is over Tuesday night into Wednesday.

A lot of fence testing to come.

interestingly, Monday and Tuesday show fairly widespread snow potential across hills in Scotland, northern and central England and northern Wales. Perhaps some scattered snow showers elsewhere, but not really settling at lower ground I think

Funny OYBBK, I just came on to ask you if the possibility of snow for next week is looking realistic. I asked dc3(6) if there's anything she'd really like for her birthday (which is a week on Saturday) & she said she'd like to see some snow next week Grin

This weekend looks horrible here, forecast heavy rain & strong winds.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/02/2020 11:18

Im amused that I'm posting about potential severe gales and everyone is 'yes, but is it going to snow? ' Grin

Well it has been a pretty boring winter, unless you like rain Wink & I’ve already got the slipper socks she’s asked for.

I see they’ve now named the storm due at the weekend. We’ve got gusts of 60mph predicted Saturday night in to Sunday.

SaskiaRembrandt · 05/02/2020 14:21

Yes, it is funny Grin But the weather this winter has been pretty dull. I'd like some proper snow that lasts a few days.

Thanks OYBBK, the weather warning had passed me by but now I know we are currently forecast sustained 70mph winds on Sunday (SE coast). Better check the trampoline is still firmly tethered! Hope the fence between us and next door (fairly new and next door's responsibility) fairs better than in the last storm.

NotYourTypicalNerd · 05/02/2020 18:35

I have to say, those weather warnings did make me smile. Basically, it is going to be windy EVERYWHERE this weekend! Well done, Met office!

Also, I want snow!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/02/2020 20:27

Happily not sustained wind speeds Erismorn (I hope!!!!) but yes 70+mph gusts are quite possible, but not guaranteed.

So in typical me fashion, I'll be travelling on a train through the worst of it. I hope I get home...

The wind was 70+ on Monday. Very unpleasant to drive in. Ferry was off.

Bit concerned that they will cancel the ferry again next Monday. It's looking a bit rough. 😟

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/02/2020 21:06

Xmas Grin It needs to wait until I'm home.

I'm seriously starting to reconsider plans, but that would be a massive bugger. I expect it's possible that trains will be running slow at the very least.

Even in central London gusts are currently modelled above 50mph for hours.

If it pans out, Sunday could see some pretty nasty damage. Let's hope it doesn't.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/02/2020 21:52

Some models are showing 70mph gusts across most of England Confused
