First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

Strong breeze here.

Worried about our beautiful trees. And more importantly the roof.

God help us.

GloriaSmud · 08/02/2020 13:24

Thoughts from Netweather and TheWeatherOutlook.

GloriaSmud · 08/02/2020 13:27

Useful timeline from Jo Farrow at Netweather.

FlorestanAndEusebius · 08/02/2020 13:31

It's getting very windy here (NI)...just walked home and thought I might be blown away!

GloriaSmud · 08/02/2020 13:39

Netweather wind gust chart for midday tomorrow Shock

We've just moved our wheelie bins and some plant pots so that they don't get blown over. We're just about to go to the allotment to make sure everything's weighted down there.

@hennyspennys It's is a massive worry, I worry enough with him doing this journey anyway without a throwing a storm into the mix.

He's driving from where his girlfriend is in the far south of Cornwall and will get off the M6 at jct 12. He does this every other weekend, ever since his girlfriend went to university, and he couldn't be persuaded to give this weekend a miss even though he's also going again on Thursday evening after work with it being Valentines Day on Friday.

GloriaSmud · 08/02/2020 14:01

Mummylin - it's starting to hit the west coast of Ireland/Scotland about now and will move across overnight. Winds will start to affect SW England/W Wales from about midnight, S coast from 3am (Sunday) onwards.

Hawkmoth - Perhaps tell him to avoid the journey tomorrow. There's probably a chance of bridges being closed which is another thing to consider.

itsgettingweird · 08/02/2020 14:16

The south has been promised the heaviest wind 🙈
None of the snow though!

South coast (central) has the rainfall but the air temps are slightly too high and the dam varies a lot throughout the day.

Likely chance if any is to fall is overnight on Tuesday. I won't hold my breath though Grin

IndecentFeminist · 08/02/2020 14:16

Isle of Wight here, coastlines might get interesting! Beautiful sunny, calm day out at the moment but the barometer is dropping. DH isn't often nervous about weather but has said the contrast is a little unnerving. Going to move anything not nailed down and warn the kids we will be staying in tomorrow 😂

hennyspennys · 08/02/2020 14:18

I've just had a text to say they are setting off now because they don't fancy it tomorrow. @madisonavenue I hope your son has an uneventful journey tomorrow.

itsgettingweird · 08/02/2020 14:20

Notmyidea I'm going into Portsmouth on Sunday lunchtime. I'm considering the long route and not across the motorway open space (M275). Cannot avoid it as ds swimming in comp. will not be fun at oool anyway ds due to location

doradoo · 08/02/2020 14:23

I'm in Nordrhein-Westfalen in Germany and we've been forecast it too - expected to be very bad here Sunday evening through the night - school has been cancelled for Monday. Although we're calling her Sabine!

FlamingoAndJohn · 08/02/2020 14:27

Hmmm East of England here.

Beautiful calm day right now but they are closing ‘the bridge’ from 3am to 7pm tomorrow as a precaution. Which is a complete arse ache and effectively means it shuts the town. At least it’s not a work day.

itsgettingweird · 08/02/2020 14:28

Waves to indecent 👋🏻 I can see IOW so clearly today as beautiful and calm and sunny. You are right though about it being unnerving. Especially because tides are meant to be naturally higher atm too.

Knitwit99 · 08/02/2020 14:29

We were planning to get the train from Edinburgh to York tomorrow but LNER are advising not to travel. Not sure what we'll do. I think weather warnings are usually overstated, or our corner of the country always misses the worst, I don't know. I guess we can decide nearer the time.

dementedma · 08/02/2020 14:56

Going to be a lot of English rugby fans stuck in Edinburgh tomorrow if the trains aren’t running...

BiddyPop · 08/02/2020 15:00

So far, in Dublin, it is windy but not so bad that we couldn't bring the Cubs outdoors to play wide games in beautiful sunshine (so much that 1 Cub lay on the pile of coats with his jumper and trousers pulled up to sunbathe!!). Wind gauge seems under reporting though in Aden as it said 10-15 knots but felt closer to 20-25.

Just starting to spit rain now, very little yet. But wind is definitely picking up. Should be interesting at high tide with full moon (so springs) - I intend a good look when I go out to vote shortly.

BiddyPop · 08/02/2020 15:01

Wind gauge is in our Scout Den (no idea what Aden is...)

Cloud now fully covering sky and dropping over the past hour.

MintToBee · 08/02/2020 15:01

Ayrshire is pretty windy right now

VivaLeBeaver · 08/02/2020 15:07

It’s getting a bit breezy now (midlands), 20mph. Crazy to think it’s going to be 60mph tomorrow.

AmelieTaylor · 08/02/2020 15:50

@MadisonAvenue
Could DS be persuaded to stay down there an extra day or two instead. Not ideal I know, but possibly the lesser of the two evils?!

Titsywoo · 08/02/2020 15:55

It shouldn't be anything like that @nannynick - that was a hurricane and the wind speed was about 85mph and the gusts 135ish so much worse than what is expected tomorrow.

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 08/02/2020 15:58

Uh oh 😬

it's weird isn't it, the anticipation (for those of us further east).
it's calm right now, earlier it was beautiful & sunny.
