Storm Ciara forecasts and reports

First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

It's surprising how much damage can happen sometimes.

At the moment the worst of the winds look to be on Sunday afternoon. I'll update later.

@ohyoubadbadkitten watching this with interest, can't find much about a possible storm Dennis later in the week, but wasn't looking very nice on weather twitter...Shock We are hoping to fly out of Gatwick on Wednesday, please tell me Dennis has pushed into Thursday?!

BiddyPop · 06/02/2020 08:23

I guess I need to cancel the sailing coaching for the second Sunday in a row - the parents will be happy for safety but grumpy not getting them out of the house, the teens will
Probably all be happy to just mooch around at home....I might actually get some housework done!!

BiddyPop · 06/02/2020 08:23

I’m due to fly again Monday (lunch) and Tuesday night so hopefully they will both be ok.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/02/2020 09:44

Dennis is an unknown beast at the moment. Some of the models aren't really going for it in the same way as they were before.

It's often really difficult to forecast the second storm when two follow in quick succession - what the first does is hugely influential on the second.

Looks like Saturday night into Sunday for the strongest wind in Edinburgh.
Monday's forecast.... I'd like to get excited, but think it will be marginal on the snow front.

FluffytheGoldfish · 06/02/2020 12:14

I'm flying out of Edinburgh early Sunday morning, I hope we get away OK as we have stuff booked later in the day. Also due to fly back in late Tuesday evening but not so worried about that.

Notmyideamovingon · 06/02/2020 13:15

We're supposed to be going to Harry potter studio from near Portsmouth Sunday arrrgghhh

thekatydids · 06/02/2020 13:28

Thanks oybbk

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/02/2020 14:14

thanks Gloria. Bit of a wild picture.

I think amber warnings will come out, perhaps Sunday for some parts, including perhaps along the SE coast.

I should add, that it's still not clear where the strongest winds will be.

At the risk of sounding repetitive...

Arse.

Again.

Luckystar777 · 06/02/2020 16:32

I wouldn't mind a bit of snow tbh, it's been 2 years since we had a nice think snowstorm and it didn't even last more than 2 days.

Luckystar777 · 06/02/2020 16:33

*thick!

Kwackerly · 06/02/2020 20:45

Thank you oybbk, think I'll be obsessively checking this thread over the next few days! Ciara looking nasty, hoping Dennis goes away entirely!

Perihelion · 06/02/2020 20:49

I saw gritters out this evening Hmm
Maybe just for frost, as it's been a beautiful, sunny, calm day, so cold tonight.
And a warning for strong winds and heavy snow on Monday and Tuesday Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/02/2020 21:12

Ciara continues to look nasty!
So turn trampolines upside down, or weight them if you can. Secure fence panels (or just remove dodgy ones), wheeliebins away! And don't plan woodland or cliff top walks Grin

Bugger, I've got a long drive back from Somerset on Sunday. The M4 is going to be horrendous I'm sure 😣

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/02/2020 21:48

Take it easy. Unfortunately most of daylight will see very high winds.

Sunday looks like a day to hibernate!

megletthesecond · 06/02/2020 23:32

Wearily marking my place.

Belindabelle · 07/02/2020 04:18

I am hearing things about big snow for Scotland on Monday and Tuesday.
