Storm Ciara forecasts and reports

First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

Damn it I was hoping that an early spring was around the corner.
Another one who doesn't want snow. I can't afford the heating bill or to get snowed in.

ippdipdo · 08/02/2020 09:54

Damn it I was hoping that an early spring was around the corner.

I was thinking that yesterday, it was lovely and sunny so I had the window open when I was out and about in the car.

It's very calm here, bitterly cold but not a single bit of wind at all, not even a gentle breeze.

TokyoSushi · 08/02/2020 09:55

It looks like most of us haved just been upgraded to Amber for tomorrow. Thanks so much OYBBK and Gloria, super helpful at times like these 🌟

Cismyfatarse1 · 08/02/2020 10:06

What are the chances my 8.30am flight from Edinburgh will take off tomorrow? Not an urgent trip but worth knowing what people think.

Makinglists · 08/02/2020 10:23

Met office have upgraded us to amberShock

magimedi · 08/02/2020 10:25

Just had a lovely walk by the sea ( E. Sussex)10C & calm but not planning on going out tomorrow.

Flowers to OYBBK & Gloria for all you do.

And thank you so much MN Flowers for changing the thread title.

I've just had a really stressful morning rearranging plans, so that I can come back first thing tomorrow morning by car. Combination of rail replacement buses and storm force winds was not something that seemed practical.

I'm not going to be online very much today from a little bit. I'll try checking in on my phone when I can.

Take it seriously tomorrow. It won't be hard winds the whole time, there will be quiet lulls, don't be fooled into thinking it's over.

ps, ignore apps, they won't be picking up on any squall line features and they are slightly rubbish for peak winds.

We're not taking any chances here (East of England). We've cancelled my DSS coming here from the SE, and I've moved my overnight plans back so that I'm having a late lunch today and coming back home this evening.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2020 11:55

It's a bit of a pain isn't it, but at least it's not during the working week and the worry about getting school kids home.

All London royal parks closed tomorrow.

born “ I DON’T WANT ANY SNOW.”

We can hold hands and repeat it like a mantra!

iVampire · 08/02/2020 12:17

Very unusual for Royal parks to be closed.

Lots of running events being cancelled, including the Cancer Research Winter Run 10k (major road closed event in central London and a huge fundraiser). I was due to be running it - cancellation emails started going out at 5pm yesterday.

If the forecast really is 70mph gusts in London (up from 45mph a day or two ago) I can see why. At least trees aren’t in leaf yet.

notimagain · 08/02/2020 12:26

"What are the chances my 8.30am flight from Edinburgh will take off tomorrow? Not an urgent trip but worth knowing what people think."

ATM the forecast for Sun AM at Edinburgh airport is for a strong gusting wind blowing "along" the runway so if that forecast holds it looks like taking off won't be a major problem (but I'd expect it to be rough).

However the other issue is where does that aircraft start it's day (if it hasn't night stopped at Edinburgh ) and where are you headed. The aviation forecasts for the south east UK and some places in western and north western europe look a bit entertaining...

Good luck..

SaskiaRembrandt · 08/02/2020 12:40

It still feels like Spring here at the moment, it's sunny and quite mild. There's a strong breeze, but nothing unusual for Yorkshire.

I still want snow, sorry.

megletthesecond · 08/02/2020 12:41

ivamp yy, junior parkruns are sensibly cancelling left, right and centre.

MintToBee · 08/02/2020 12:43

I'm flying tomorrow from Glasgow for a funeral. I'm hoping and hoping I make it. God damn Ciara!

Housiemousie · 08/02/2020 12:44

Just an fyi: the wind has just begun to pick up on the the west coast of Ireland. It has been a calm morning until the last 30 minutes. We are expecting it to keep building.

Avebury · 08/02/2020 12:53

I'm in London and it is so hard to believe it is all going to kick off tomorrow as it is super calm and beautiful outside right now

Mummylin · 08/02/2020 12:56

I am on the south coast in a seaside town , it is a beautiful sunny day and can't believe it's going to change and be horrendously windy. Is it coming in tonight or not until tomorrow ?

Hawkmoth · 08/02/2020 12:58

DS is supposed to be being driven from aberdeenshire to Edinburgh and back tomorrow. I feel uneasy and would be grateful for any thoughts.

dementedma · 08/02/2020 13:00

Wind picking up her in central Scotland but still nothing out of the ordinary. It is bitterly cold though so expecting snow once the storm hits.

Hawkmoth · 08/02/2020 13:04

Thanks @dementedma it's sunny and warm still up here. It just seems a long way away and we do have a flood warning for tomorrow on the coast.

ippdipdo · 08/02/2020 13:10

Wind picking up on the west coast now

NotYourTypicalNerd · 08/02/2020 13:14

Beautiful day here in the East. Have tidied and sorted the back garden. Now just to do the front. I may even wash the car I it is just gonna be wind and no rain. Highest gusts in my areas are going to be around 55, so not too worried but feel for those going to be hit the worst.

Right off to hang out the washing!
