Something to really watch. GFS model is really looking a bit crackers next week with high temps of perhaps 35c mid week and night minima in the mid 20s. I'll post more tomorrow, but it doesn't look like the traditional school holiday cool down

White Dust ~ today, mostly the S and SE but really anywhere from the Midlands southwards could see 27/28C. The country will really feel the heat though on Thursday ~ Netweather's Max temperatures for Thursday.

YesQueen ~ that might be the thing to do!

ReturnofSaturn · 23/07/2019 11:03

I think people feel the heat differently like the poster who said coat weather at 20 degrees.

I lived in Australia for a couple of years and when it got down to 20 degrees we had the log burner going and big jumpers on!!

Moved back here last year and I now find 20 degrees very pleasant not chilly.

Delatron · 23/07/2019 11:15

I also think it takes a while to get used to the heat. In September it feels chilly at 19/20 but in April it feels lovely and warm!

We’re up to a 37 degree forecast for Thursday which is going to be tricky.

BlackeyedGruesome · 23/07/2019 12:43

Here we go. The sun has come round on to the windows. Curtains shut.

YesQueen · 23/07/2019 13:27

My colleagues have complained the air con is too cold HmmHmm so I now have a fan on. Hoping for better sleep tonight

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/07/2019 16:21

I'm up to 32.5c at my weather station.

It must be warm. My dad is reminiscing about "1976 when I slept in the garden. Now that was a summer"

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 23/07/2019 17:42

Found a shaded bit of the garden with a bit of a breeze. It’s quite nice rather than sweltering hot.

Forecast for Thursday in this bit of Leicestershire has gone back up to 35 degrees. Met office had briefly revised it down.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/07/2019 17:56

One of the models (arpege) has ramped things up even further to 39c on Thursday. Confused

Yikes, yes my iPhone weather app (don’t know who they use) now says 39 for London for Thursday. I remember the year it was over 100 degrees in old money was it 2003? I guess that was 37ish C if I’m remembering correctly.

BlackeyedGruesome · 23/07/2019 19:16

Thursday is forecast 34 here. Phew!

GloriaSmud · 23/07/2019 19:41

Netweather's storm forecast.

Delatron ~ I seem to remember the summer of 2003 as being a record- breaking one as DD2 was only a few months old at the time and we didn't even venture into the back garden during the day, as it was just too hot.

My weather station says we reached 31.5C here (Leicester) this afternoon. If we don't get any rain tonight from overnight thunderstorms, I'm considering getting to the allotment around 7am tomorrow to do a huge watering session!

CatteStreet · 23/07/2019 19:47

The German weather service is thinking there may be a series of consecutive 40 degree days here*, which would be unprecedented.

Am fortunately in a cooler area. A very manageable* 31-32ish today.

**For me - I appreciate not for everyone.

colouringinpro · 23/07/2019 19:48

I usually enjoy the heat, but not this time. I'm in the South East and about 30 in the shade. I just conked out this afternoon. Can't shift a bad headache. Sleeping in the garden is quite appealing!

CatteStreet · 23/07/2019 19:48

Sorry about the random bolding. Should have been Am fortunately in a cooler area. A very manageable * etc.

colouringinpro · 23/07/2019 19:49

Catte Shock

colouringinpro · 23/07/2019 19:51

Met Office forecast for Fri has gone from 21 to 24 - have they been listening to you oybbk?!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/07/2019 21:02

The previous all time record was 38.5c in 2003. I'm not sure that we will beat that. We may, but my feeling is probably not.
I hope I'm not eating my sunhat Thursday night Grin

That storm forecast does tally quite well with my feelings. Keeping an eye on: www.lightningmaps.org/?lang=en

Apparently it's still 26 degrees here in Cheshire, it feels like it too 🥵

Emmabryant123 · 23/07/2019 21:09

Still 30c here to :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/07/2019 21:36

Rather than updating two threads I'll keep everything to do with this week here.
Incoming storms? One showing in the far SW just to contradict what I said on the storm thread.

Potential severe heatwave next week. (week of 21st July)

The www.lightningmaps.org site is very good. I can see the storms coming up from France and they might reach me. The clicks are increasing - almost like a Geiger counter. Grin

Mistigri · 23/07/2019 22:01

We (DS and I) got stuck in a train with no air conditioning between Bordeaux and Toulouse this afternoon. Never been so hot in my life. We fortunately had brought a litre bottle of water than we used to wet our clothing and they were handing out free bottles of drinking water.

Iambuffy · 23/07/2019 22:15

Christ its brutal.

Migraine today.

Predicting 35 in Leicestershire on Thursday....
