Christmas weather guess thread!

Christmas eve is in the GFS model range woo hoo!!!
I’m an amateur, don’t rely on my forecasts etc etc, at this range it is entirely a guess, the models will change.....

I only have time for an instantaneous forecast at the moment -
GFS says: cold and settled.

back later for a better forecast.

With all the excitement/possible snow coming this weekend, I'd forgotten Christmas was coming into range! But judging by what Louise Lear said on News24 earlier this afternoon (about cold carrying on throughout December) and looking at the GFS, I go with cold as well!

It looks pretty promising for at least some seasonal temps and perhaps some flurries to go with it.

Canada calling . Not a scrap of snow here, and none in the forecast. Mild temps and sun for the next week.

Bah humbug, in this mornings model run the high pressure is in the wrong place, bringing mild temperatures over Christmas.

dammit, it still looks mild and very wet according to the latest gfs. Back to traditional recent Christmas’.

Looking mild (possibly wet) for the south and chilly (might be snow for Scottish hills) for the north, on Christmas Day.

hah!!! gfs has just thrown up a very snowy christmas day chart. It’s having a laugh I’m sure!! I’ll have a proper look later and tomorrow to see if it’s a blip or a trend.

What do you reckon Gloria? Is this going to be a reality, or do you think it’s been drinking too much sherry? I’ll have a proper look later.

Welllll, the GFS did do pretty well with the cold a few days ago, forecasting that 10 or so days ahead. And it seems to have the temperatures dipping a few days before (from the 22/12) so kind of gives the feeling that it's a trend rather than a blip so think it would be wise to see what the next few runs do!

Based on no forecasting skills whatsoever, but just the fact that I won't have a lift to work until January so will be on the bike.

That picture looks like sleet for me . I'd rather have rain.

It did pick it up this weekends weather early.

Anyone despairing at this point should realise that there is no point at all in trying to guess detail at the moment. This may be the beginning of a trend of models showing a snowy interlude, but if it is, we still have no idea of where snow/rain interfaces would lie. This is just one model run out of many, lots of the gfs runs are not showing this scenario.
