Christmas weather guess thread!

Christmas eve is in the GFS model range woo hoo!!!
I’m an amateur, don’t rely on my forecasts etc etc, at this range it is entirely a guess, the models will change.....

I only have time for an instantaneous forecast at the moment -
GFS says: cold and settled.

back later for a better forecast.

Xmas Grin Blackeyed and Woollybacks

They do don't they, OYBBK. If it all 'goes to plan', it looks like the GFS will have got it right again when it comes to forecasting snow this winter.

GloriaSmud · 26/12/2017 06:43

To round off Christmas Day nicely, it has been officially classed by the metoffice as 'a white one' for some!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2017 08:04

knew I should have placed a bet!

Looks like many from the around Wolverhampton down will see some snow in the early hours, right down to the south, away from the east. Unfortunately it will be preceded by hours of rain for most in the south.

I think they may need to shift the warning area a little south.

it's going to miss us again Xmas Sad I need to move south!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2017 10:06

And I'm right in the middle of it Xmas Grin

Actually though after looking at the models and metoffice/other weather websites, I don't think anyone's sure even this close to the rain/snow arriving, that it's a certainty Leicester's going to get snow. We're covered by the weather warning but the hourly forecast is giving sleet right through 'til 7am so I think a lot will depend on what the temperatures are like tonight and all the other factors that go into whether what falls is rain or snow.

GloriaSmud · 26/12/2017 13:06

Following on from my last post, the metoffice seem to have had a bit of an update and we're now due to get heavy snow from 1am through 'til 7am now.

BishopBrennansArse · 26/12/2017 13:14

We're down for sleet. Missing out as usual Sad

notsomanky · 26/12/2017 13:22

Driving home today. South of Glasgow to abington was freezing fog and a couple of inches of snowcon tbe ground, though the motorway was just wet.

Just stopped at Tebay services and everything is green and damp

BishopBrennansArse · 26/12/2017 15:26

Hmm it's currently 2 degrees colder than UKMO give here, hoping we get a cold air undercut and snow!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2017 17:48

I'm in the middle of nowhere (in the car) really horrid heavy blowy rain. Twitter says the se have a warning from the metoffice but I can't load it.

Just popped on to see if anything particular looming for north Staffs. I'm on the road at 5am.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2017 19:11

Potentially, but I'm afraid it will be a nowcast situation for you.

GloriaSmud · 26/12/2017 19:42

Heavy rain at the moment here (Leicester) and 3.7C
Temperature's dropped 1C in the last hour. I can see I'll be doing quite a bit of 'lampost watching,' looking for signs of snow during the evening!

Only1scoop · 26/12/2017 20:18

Thanks Both

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/12/2017 21:35

My met office keeps changing from just rain to sleet to heavy snow from midnight- 7am (very South Warks). I have a conveniently placed lampost Gloria Smile

hoochymama1 · 26/12/2017 21:41

Nothing doing here in north derbyshire, like you Gloria I am watching lampposts and refreshing the bbc page. They predicted heavy snow this afternoon then changed their minds, the swine. At least the family will get home safe

NoStraightEdges · 26/12/2017 22:26

We've got quite a lot of snow falling in Birmingham now. (I updated the snow watch thread, but thought I'd pop over here to mention it too)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2017 22:27

Yay you found this one Nostraight :)

I've been getting up to lampost watch every 1/2 hour or so and we've finally got snoooooow! There's a very slight covering on cars and grass.

Moodykat · 26/12/2017 22:32

Nothing here in Berkshire but BBC forecast says we'll get some overnight. I'm keeping everything crossed!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2017 22:34

x posting into the snow watch thread too as it's a bit muddling at present.

It's a very marginal situation for most in the warning area overnight. I think some will be rather disappointed. As ever, the higher your altitude, the more likely it is to snow.

For those in the south, we have a dry interlude before more rain moves in. The back edge of that may turn to snow if the rain is heavy enough.

Followed by a cold day for also tomorrow.
