Christmas eve is in the GFS model range woo hoo!!!
I’m an amateur, don’t rely on my forecasts etc etc, at this range it is entirely a guess, the models will change.....

I only have time for an instantaneous forecast at the moment -
GFS says: cold and settled.

back later for a better forecast.

I've just let the dogs out & it's sleet here now, possibly slightly more snow than rain iyswim. The Goldie is doing a mad dash round the garden, she loved it the week before last.

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 27/12/2017 00:37

OYBBK, we seem to be in the middle of a right storm in north Cornwall at the moment, it's quite scary with the wind & rain! Not had anything like this for a long time, the whole house is shaking.. I didn't see this one coming!

HemanOrSheRa · 27/12/2017 00:42

It's SNOWING. SNOWING IN BRISTOL. AND IT'S PITCHING Grin. I've got a house full of very, very excited visiting children Smile. They've been dancing in the snow Smile.

hellocleveland · 27/12/2017 00:45

I'm in north Cornwall too by the sea and just driven home. Just terrible conditions. The wind blew me over and my husband had to hold on to me to stop me blowing away. Saw a few signs down , tree branches etc. Quite scary now listening to the wind howling outside. Forecast didn't predict this.

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 27/12/2017 00:51

It's bad isn't it? I usually keep an eye on these things, but this caught me by surprise. We just watched our fences fly off over the Irish Sea....not to mention the lights and anything else not concreted down. Our house is on a very exposed cliff and is shaking, it's quite scary. I'm surprised we still have power to be honest.

HemanOrSheRa · 27/12/2017 00:56

Yikes. Sorry Blush. I posted in the wrong weather thread. We rarely get snow here. I'm sorry if I upset anyone.

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 27/12/2017 00:58

Snow is good Heman, don't be silly! I'd rather be looking out at snow than running around the house filling up the gaps in the windows with DH's pants to stop the water coming in....Shock

HemanOrSheRa · 27/12/2017 01:51

Is it that bad Sea? We have a family holiday home in North Cornwall. I have to confess that I haven't looked at any weather as I predicted damp and grey as usual here.

GloriaSmud · 27/12/2017 08:11

Hope you're all OK, SW way. Sounds like there was a lot of volatility surrounding this system overnight, with reports of 'thundersnow' as well.

We've got 2-3cms here (Leicester) on grass and roofs but a sort of slushy mix on roads. Still snowing now but as it's 2.2C, it's melting rather than settling.

LIZS · 27/12/2017 08:15

Oh crap, it is settling in SE and we have a long drive planned.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2017 08:51

Heman, don't worry, it's fine :)

I just woke up Blush We have a covering of snow Xmas Grin

Yay OYBBK!
Over this way, the Northampton/Kettering areas seems to have had it worst. The A14 is awful in some places.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2017 09:14

It's a bit meaty round here, I think there must have been some rain mixed in, but hooray. Nice to wake up to :)

Reports of trees down on the rail network in the south.

Lots of flood warnings and flood alerts too.

bbc report about some of the disruption.

Pretty good covering here - not too far from the aforementioned A14. We had huuuge snowflakes last night. It's still falling as very light snow now and I feel really mean because I'm hoping it is going to thaw completely during the day.

This is my washing line this morning.

It's still very blowy down here on the north coast, but it calmed down a lot by around 4am and the rain has stopped, so it's great to sit indoors & watch the waves. Just discovered that DH put the bin out last night...that's probably somewhere over Ireland with the fence by now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2017 10:32

out of sheer curiousity Seal, which compass direction did you lose your fence in?

Nice woollyback :)

more weather warnings out for heavy rain in East Anglia which could lead to further flooding issues. Could be pretty squally too. Also mucho ice overnight tonight into tomorrow, so take care travellers.

HemanOrSheRa · 27/12/2017 10:55

All a bit of an anticlimax here. The snow has pretty much all gone.

I'm on call tonight - is there anywhere reliable that I can check the weather for the Bristol area?

Maudlinmaud · 27/12/2017 10:57

Morning all. How lovely that some of you have snow, its the best time of year for it.
Our weather is just blah, rainy, grey and very cold, and it's the damp cold that gets to your bones Sad
I'm fascinated hearing about thunder snow.

ginandnappies · 27/12/2017 10:58

Some snow NE Scotland :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2017 11:35

Heman it will be dry and cold, with rural areas perhaps seeing temps dip below freezing. That for once is a pretty easy forecast to make.
