stormy weather forecast for Weds 14th/thurs 15th

I think that this weeks weather now needs its own thread. Can I first apologise for not creating a separate thread for the Scottish twin storms. Although I was posting forecasts on a general weather thread, real life has conspired to give me less weather watching time than usual.

So anyway, as ever with these systems the details are not yet tied down. Models are coming up with a range of depths of the low pressure of between 945hpa (and filling as it comes on shore) - 968hpa. It looks certain that a deep low pressure will cross the UK weds/thurs and that at the very least some areas will see gales. Worst case scenario is storm force winds.

At the moment the areas I personally think most at risk is Wales, the Midlands and perhaps southern England too.

I'll do my best to update when I can.

met office warnings

Those Met Office warning maps are getting ridiculous now. I've spent 20 minutes poring over them and my expert assessment is that we're all having all the weather. Is that about right oybbk?

AuntieStella · 13/01/2015 21:39

I've just seen a telly forecast - rain, wintry showers, sleet, freezing temperatures, some snow; all being used for just about everywhere.

They did mention possible thunderstorms in the SW.

And (more) snow next week?

Perihelion · 13/01/2015 21:40

Rally pretty much, esp if you live in Cental Scotland.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2015 21:41

Bristol could get some early morning snow and tomorrow night looks very windy.

Crisis skolastica!

Rally tog, it's a good summary, a little bit of everything for many.

OYBBK any idea what it's looking like for Wrexham overnight please?

PrimalLass · 13/01/2015 21:48

It has snowed on and off here all day (Fife coast) but it is not lying.

JillJ72 · 13/01/2015 21:54

N Bucks, it's actually clear and starry outside, not what I expected to see!

Roseformeplease · 13/01/2015 22:17

Evan you explain the vast amount of lightning and thunder we are having up here. The winds have died down and it is just hail / snow / rain here but the Lightning is incredible.

meglet · 13/01/2015 22:22

so, in the space of 24hrs we (north Hampshire) will have had rain, hail, thunder and lightning (FAB view from office), sunshine, a rainbow and overnight we're due snow. Weather overload!

pepperrabbit · 13/01/2015 22:33

Kids are wildly excited by the prospect of snow but I suspect we may have cold soggy sleet for the school run Sad
We're NE Hampshire and had the bursts of rain/wind but nothing more exciting that I saw today.

coalscuttle · 13/01/2015 22:50

Just started snowing in north cotswolds! We are at just over 200m though. Wind has really got up as well.

BlackeyedSusan · 13/01/2015 23:01

Wmids yay, it has just started settling in the grass, still sleety going by the sound of drops hitting the window, and ther has been a lot of rain.

it says up to 6cm but that will be in the outlying areas of the county no doubt. it snowed out at school but not nearer the city centre this afternoon

GloriaSmud · 13/01/2015 23:08

Leicester signing in once again and we have a sleety mix turning more to snow. Yay!

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/01/2015 23:30

We've had rain, hail and thunder this evening. The hail has settled into a half inch layer on the cars in the street, which should provide a nice cold layer for the snow were due in the night.

NameForReallyRandomStuff · 13/01/2015 23:47

Nothing here in south Oxfordshire. Sad Absolutely no weather whatsoever.

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/01/2015 23:52

Have some of ours....

BlackeyedSusan · 14/01/2015 00:26

looks like the rain/sleet mix has frozen on the substation roof. no more snow last time I checked.

pigsinmud · 14/01/2015 00:26

The couple of heavy snow blobs we had for early morning have been replaced with sleet - boo. It's still nearly 4c here.

SpottyTeacakes · 14/01/2015 04:48

Looks like we won't get any here now!

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 14/01/2015 05:10

Snow in the north west. As pretty as it is (and i am half hoping it is enough to cause a school closure) it is also an utter pain in the arse and will require Major sorting out of things.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 14/01/2015 05:11

due to having to cancel long journeys etc

(sorry hit post too soon)

catkate10 · 14/01/2015 05:25

Bit of snow overnight here (West Yorkshire).

meglet · 14/01/2015 06:35

the few flakes we were expecting in Hampshire never turned up.

micku5 · 14/01/2015 06:49

Is there any chance of snow in North west Kent? Dd2 is desperate for it to snow and has just had a go at the lady on BBC because she said there may be some snow flurries today.

youarekiddingme · 14/01/2015 07:09

We didn't even get the wind or rain did we Meglet? Bit of an anticlimax really!

What's perfectly annoying is we have perfect snow conditions in the atmosphere here but just not the rain to produce the snow!
