stormy weather forecast for Weds 14th/thurs 15th

I think that this weeks weather now needs its own thread. Can I first apologise for not creating a separate thread for the Scottish twin storms. Although I was posting forecasts on a general weather thread, real life has conspired to give me less weather watching time than usual.

So anyway, as ever with these systems the details are not yet tied down. Models are coming up with a range of depths of the low pressure of between 945hpa (and filling as it comes on shore) - 968hpa. It looks certain that a deep low pressure will cross the UK weds/thurs and that at the very least some areas will see gales. Worst case scenario is storm force winds.

At the moment the areas I personally think most at risk is Wales, the Midlands and perhaps southern England too.

I'll do my best to update when I can.

met office warnings

Bigger I'm in yorkshire.

Perihelion · 13/01/2015 17:44

Wimpy I think you must be further inland than me. No snow yet, although it is finally cold enough for it to be proper snow and lie. Wind's getting up too......Nice to see the only weather event we don't have a warning for is fog Smile

PestoStormissimos · 13/01/2015 17:51

Perihelion · 13/01/2015 18:08

West then Wimpy ? At least you have snow Grin

Peedie · 13/01/2015 18:12

No snow in W fife and all this mornings fall has melted! I'm due in Edinburgh for a meeting tomorrow morning so I could do without any tomorrow. Fingers crossed (in vain I think, but a girl can try!!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2015 18:39

Currently at 3C and the met office has a forecast for 4C at 7pm, so for me the temps are starting to look good for a bit of dawn snow.

Ooh!! Thank you for getting my hopes up Kitten Smile

somebodythatiusedtoknow · 13/01/2015 18:43

Does anyone else find all the overlapping warning things on the map totally unclear?! It's impossible to see at a glance which applies where.

pigsinmud · 13/01/2015 18:53

Temp seems to be going up here in my part of Surrey. It was 4c at 4 and now it's 6.8 Confused

LostInWales · 13/01/2015 18:55

OYBBK so far today; Snow that meant I had to turn back for home, insane hail fall that covered the road later, on the way back from throwing a few after school snowballs (I mean covered it completely in about 30 seconds and made driving down the very steep hill I was on surprisingly eventful) and thunder and lightening just now. my tick list is almost full, just need the windy bit and we are ahead! Looking at the weather radar on netweather.tv there are patches of lilac going to purple not far from here. I know it's important people are safe BUT it's also a tiny bit exciting. DS1, DS3 and I would no doubt be storm chasers if we lived somwhere more eventful, we've been out twice now (once in the dark) just to watch the horizons and see what's happening Grin.

LostInWales · 13/01/2015 18:57

schilke if you touch the weather icons (swervey car, snowflake etc) it does a black border round the area pertaining to that icon.

Perihelion · 13/01/2015 18:58

Yep Somebody it's pish. Click on the icon and it shows the black boarder for the warning area and the time the warning is in force for. I think they could still improve it though.

I also miss the old UK latest observations page.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2015 19:06

My temp has gone back up to 4c.

What a fab day Lost! I had a little hail and a whole load of rain and gusty wind on my bike ride. Then when I got home the sun came out and with it a rainbow. I think the weather was thumbing its nose at me.

If you scroll down past the warnings it gives you some idea what warning is for where etc.

Perihelion · 13/01/2015 19:29

SNOW Grin the tiniest dusting, but it's not melting!!!!!

mankyscotslass · 13/01/2015 19:35

DM told me they had had a dusting in Renfrewshire this morning - close to the river so it usually has to be bad to lie there. She just called me to say it had started again this evening, large wet snowflakes.

Nothing here though.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 13/01/2015 19:38

Any specific thoughts for Bristol please kitten?

skolastica · 13/01/2015 19:39

Argyll here - island communities without supplies for over a week now. Pub's running out of beer...

leesmum · 13/01/2015 20:32

Manky we've had light snow on and off for about half hour ( north MCR) Grin

georgedawes · 13/01/2015 21:08

Dh is meant to be driving over woodhead pass tomorrow afternoon and back late evening, I'm really concerned!

GloriaSmud · 13/01/2015 21:11

Most disappointing here. Temperature's 1.8C and there's been nuffink so far of a snowy nature. There's a great splodge of snow on the radar, that looks like it's heading in Leicester's direction from Wales way but I think it's all turning to sleet/rain by the time it gets to us Sad
